Chapter 1132 Unsatisfactory
Iris was much more heartless today compared to the night of the dinner party.
She was no longer hesitant or uneasy, she was no longer nervous or frightened when facing Quentin. She looked at him with a hint of sarcasm and would look him in the eye without fear when she spoke to him.
This was a side of her that was good.
However, the words that came from her mouth were not what Quentin wanted to hear.
His brows remained tightly knitted and the aura emitted from him felt more intense. He took a step forward and said, “Then just listen to what I have to say. I want to explain myself about that night.”
Iris’s expression changed at the mention of that night. She was immediately reminded of how she had stupidly closed her eyes and waited for his kiss only to be pushed away viciously the moment she opened her eyes.
Quentin must have seen her look at that moment. ‘He must have felt that I was so stupid!’
Even Iris thought that she was stupid and she asked for it herself when she thought about it.
Things have come to a point where she loathed herself as well. If she continued to get involved with Quentin and kept pestering him, she felt that she could no longer walk with her head held high for the rest of her life.
She acted indifferently at that thought and said, “President Hall, you don’t need to explain yourself. I know what happened.”
Quentin looked at her.
“I had too much to drink that night, that’s why…”
“Enough!”
Iris suddenly covered her ears with her hands and took an agitated step back. Her eyes were widened and tears were glistening inside her eyes. “I’ve said it already. You don’t have to explain anything. I saw everything so what else do you want?”
Her extremely agitated reaction caught Quentin by surprise as he stood there with a tighter frown.
Ever since that night, he kept searching for an opportunity to explain but she never showed up at his office. He came to look for her and waited for a day but she would not even listen to his explanation.
Iris continued to cover her ears as she shouted at him, “I was being immature and naive last time and have done many things that inconvenienced you. I promise you that it will never happen again. If you think that what I did was too much, then please just let go of me on behalf of your sister’s sake!”
Iris did not wait for Quentin’s reaction and ran away from him.
Quentin felt that he should not stop her as she was being emotional at that moment.
Helen had been waiting aside.
She should not be eavesdropping on their conversation but she was curious and worried, thus she quietly sneaked closer to both of them and wanted to try and listen to their conversation.
However, she had just walked over a little bit when Iris became emotional and shouted which nearly frightened Helen.
Helen was soon greeted with the sight of her daughter in an emotionally unstable state as Iris closed her ears and shouted at the man, drawing the attention of other passersby.
Iris ran away once she was done.
Helen felt that it was nice of Quentin to have patiently waited for Iris the whole day but she did not want to talk to him after he had upset Iris like that.
She did not even look at him as she went off to chase after Iris.
Iris ran as far as her legs could carry her until she began to gasp for air and her legs could no longer run before she stopped. She rested at the side of the road catching her breath as if there was a lack of oxygen.
Helen caught up with her and gasped for air as well.
“Oh my, it’s so tiring to chase after you, Rissie. Are you alright?”
Iris only realized that she had lost her cool because of a man in front of her mother after hearing Helen’s voice. She was stunned for a moment before she blankly turned to look at Helen.
“Don’t be sad.” Helen smiled and helped Iris up. She gently wiped away the tears from Iris’s eyes. “It’s just a small event and I don’t blame you for acting like that earlier. Oftentimes, we’re unable to control our emotions. Let’s go home now, okay?”
At first, Iris merely pouted her lips and held back the urge to cry. Later on, she bit her lower lip and gradually increased the strength of the bite until her lips bled but she still could not hold back the grief she felt as the tears kept flowing out.
“Shh, it’s okay. Let’s go home.” Helen wrapped her arm over Iris’s shoulders as they walked ahead.
That night.
After Iris had washed up for the day, she smiled weakly at Helen who had been accompanying her the whole night.
“Mom, you don’t have to stay with me. Go back to your room to rest.”
“Are you sure? Are you fine alone?”
“I’m not a child. I can sort out these emotions on my own even if you left me alone. Don’t worry. It’s late now. You should go wash up and rest early. Don’t delay any longer.”
Iris felt as if her heart was in pieces now but she did not want to see her mother exhausted because of her, and it was because of a small matter like relationships.
People would laugh at her if they heard about it.
“Alright then. Have a good rest in your room then. Just call me from the room next door if you need anything, understand?”
“Okay…”
Helen finally left and Iris stared blankly at the ceiling of her room.
After a long time, she flipped over and turned off the bedside lamp.
The room turned dark. Only her watery eyes glistened under the faint moonlight that shone inside the room.
The next day, the sun rose as usual. Iris packed up and went out. While she walked past the plaza, she saw a group of ladies doing their morning Zumba routine, the office workers rushing toward the subway on their way to work, the advertisement that hung on a skyscraper had been changed to another celebrity endorsing another product.
It was the same blue skies and white fluffy clouds.
The Earth would continue to move no matter what happened.
No matter how sad she felt, she still had to welcome a brand new day and continue to work and earn enough money to repay her debts.
At the ramen shop, Iris stood at a corner and thought about what happened last night.
It was at that spot where he waited for her the whole day.
Perhaps he was considered sincere in other people’s eyes.
However, what he did hurt her feelings deeply.
She no longer wanted to shortchange herself.
She took a deep breath at that thought and opened her shop up to begin the business for the day.
Hall Group.
Quentin had rescheduled all of his appointments yesterday and did not come to work the whole day. Jovene could only complete whatever work she could yesterday and tightened the schedule for today.
However, she could feel that Quentin did not feel right from the start of the day. He was scarily sullen that he would not even talk to her when she talked to him. He just maintained a sullen look as he stood there and gave a rather suffocating feeling to others.
Jovene touched her nose and smartly stayed further away from him, observing him from afar.
As his long-term secretary, she would have known what Quentin went to do yesterday.
However, from the looks of it, the result last night was unsatisfactory?
