Chapter 1133 Wait For Me
Jovene sighed inwardly at that thought.
‘If yesterday’s result was unsatisfactory, does that mean…’
Her hunch was proven correct when Iris still did not appear at the office that afternoon.
‘The person he was waiting for never appeared. It looks like he didn’t settle the issue during his trip yesterday but instead made things worse?’
Jovene could not help from doing some guesswork. The other day when she went to ask the receptionist, the receptionist did not look like she was lying. Furthermore, the receptionist also confessed what the other girls said to Iris. Jovene felt that Iris would not be easily intimidated by those girls based on Iris’s willful character.
Besides, even if Iris was angry at those girls, she would not blame it on Quentin either.
Jovene did not know Iris very well but they had known each other for years. She felt that Iris was not the kind of person who would get angry at an innocent person for someone else’s mistake.
Taking that possibility away, what was left was the night of the dinner party.
Jovene was the one who sent Iris over to the venue. She did not leave right away but hid someplace until she saw that Quentin had gotten to Iris before she left. At that moment, she felt that Quentin was feeling jealous when the man tried to hit Iris up.
She even thought that perhaps Iris and Quentin would end up together within these few days…
She felt that it would do Quentin good since he had been single all his life and it was time for him to get a life partner…
Who would have expected that things would become like that within a night?
Here was the question. What happened that night? Jovene could not figure out any possibilities no matter how she tried. What could have possibly happened to cause such a huge strain in their relationship?
That afternoon, Jovene went to knock on Quentin’s office door.
“Come in.”
Quentin’s tone was cold and aloof where she could not hear any emotions coming from his voice.
Jovene opened the door and walked over to his desk. She said while flipping the document in her hand, “Regarding the project at Clearwater River, I found a few problems, so…”
“You can make the decision.” Jovene had not finished her sentence but Quentin was already tapping on the table with his fingers as he interrupted her.
This was the first time Jovene saw Quentin acting rather impatient that he refused to even listen to what she wanted to say. ‘It looks like this matter is quite serious.’
She shut the file with a snap.
“President Hall, I’m not in a position to ask about your private life but what you’ve been doing over the past few days has severely affected our workflow, that’s why I have to ask, what is going on?”
Quentin frowned at the mention of this matter but he did not blow up. He coldly said, “Get out.”
Jovene remained standing there with a small smile on her face.
“President Hall, I’m also a girl. Girls usually know how another girl thinks. Why don’t you tell me what happened and perhaps I can be of help to you?”
Quentin was a little tempted at first as his gaze swept past Jovene.
‘She’s right. They’re both girls, so perhaps she would know what goes in a girl’s mind.
‘But…’
Quentin’s gaze darkened a little and his voice sounded rather exhausted. “Get out.”
“...” Jovene thought that she could convince him but he still rejected her suggestion. “Okay then, just continue with the current situation since you want to be stubborn. However, I’m your secretary and will take orders from you anytime. You can ask me whenever you need my help.”
Outside the office, Jovene could not help but roll her eyes in the direction of his office.
‘Serves you right if you remain single all your life.’
…
Simon came to the shop and saw that Iris was looking rather lifeless, thus he asked her what was going on but she said that she was fine and told him to not come again.
Simon kept quiet for a moment before he went to ask others about what happened while he was not around.
The girls that Iris hired did not know much and could only tell what they saw happening in the shop. Simon listened to what they said and kept quiet for a long time.
“Simon, you’re always here to help out at the shop because you like Iris, right?” one of the girls plucked up the courage to ask.
Simon was stunned for a moment when that question came up before he nodded his head to admit it without trying to hide it.
“So it’s true. I told them so but they won’t believe me. Simon, but I can see that Iris seemed to…” she dared not complete her sentence for fear that she might cause him to become unhappy.
Simon smiled and said, “You want to say that she doesn’t like me?”
The girl hesitated before nodding her head but she quickly added, “No, that’s not what I mean. Simon, just work harder and I’m sure you will win her heart one day!”
“Really?” Simon sounded rather anguished. “I hope so too.”
Unfortunately, he did not have much time to himself. He wondered if the dust around Iris would have settled by the time Madeleine had delivered her baby.
That afternoon, Simon had to leave for a work trip and would be away for almost half a month, that was why he was there to bid Iris goodbye.
Iris emotionlessly nodded her head when she heard about it. “Have a safe trip then.”
Simon could only feel hurt in silence but still had to maintain a smile on the outside. “I’m going to be away for a long time and things might be different by the time I come back. Can I get a hug before leaving?”
‘Get a hug?’
Iris absentmindedly looked at this handsome and warm man standing in front of her. She had rejected him countless times but the way he looked at her was still filled with warmth as always and he had never looked at her with blame.
Her lips parted a little and she swallowed the ‘no’ that was at the tip of her tongue. Instead, she nodded her head.
“Thanks.”
Simon saw that she had nodded her head thus he stepped forward, opened his arms wide, and hugged her.
He was much taller than her and she felt as if her face had hit a firm yet warm chest when he pulled her into a hug followed by a strong and steady heartbeat.
She could feel as if his heart was beating against her face.
His hug felt rather warm, had his scent, and was enveloping her right now.
However, Iris knew that she should not let him hug her for too long, thus she began to move and attempted to break the hug after a while.
She had just tried to break free but the arms that were wrapped around her shoulders moved lower and hugged at her waist tightly, pulling her into a tighter embrace.
“Gasp.” Iris softly gasped as she was caught by surprise.
His hands felt like a hot iron that branded itself on her waist, tightly coiling around her and she could hardly breathe.
Simon suddenly let go and smiled before he gently ruffled her head.
“Sorry, I couldn’t control myself.”
Iris, “...”
‘What can I say since you’re leaving soon? I can only endure it in silence.’
“Forget it. I won’t get petty with you. Have a safe journey.”
Simon opened his mouth but he hesitated to speak after saying three words. Finally, he gave up and said, “Okay, I’ll be going now.”
Iris was not sure if she heard it wrong but she felt as if he was trying to say…
‘Wait for me.’
