Chapter 1060

Daniel’s name was etched onto the headstone. Adrian and Gloria placed their flowers before it and bowed. As he read the headstone, Adrian said, “I’ve always thought of you as my senior. You’ve served Wyvern Peak for more than twenty years, and your strength and courage made you my role model. I never expected there would come a day when we would be separated in this manner. “Daniel, meet our other comrades where you are now. You’ll lead them in search of a wonderful future.” Adrian sounded slightly shaky. He had to cover his mouth to stop himself from bawling. Daniel had been there for Adrian’s life journey and had faced many dangers together with him. Yet, Daniel was now gone. No one would understand the pain and agony Adrian felt. He dropped to his knees in front of Daniel’s grave and covered his head with his hands, appearing extremely helpless. Three people approached from behind. A middle-aged woman walked over quietly, holding on to two children of different ages. The boy was about fourteen while the girl was ten. Noticing the sounds behind him, Adrian stood up, turned, and looked at the arrivals. He instantly recognized them. They were Daniel’s wife and his two children. “Are you War Legate Draco?” the young boy asked Adrian. Adrian walked over and looked at the boy before himself. The child’s name was Grant Summers, and the girl was his younger sister, Gwen Summers. The middle-aged woman named Wrenley Lang was their mother. He smiled at the children. “Grant, Gwen, it’s been a long time. You guys are so tall now.” Wrenley had once brought the children to visit Daniel in the Azure Creek base, and Adrian had met them then. Grant raised his head, looked at Adrian, and said, “Dad’s gone.” Adrian started tearing up again upon hearing this. He was extremely helpless. The young boy said, “But my sister and I will stay strong. Dad said that men should be brave and determined. I’ll protect Mom and Gwen.” “Your father was right. You’re the man of the family from now on.” Adrian stretched out his hand to rub Grant’s head. “Dad’s death was caused by those outland scoundrels. When I’m older, I’ll lead Wyvern Peak to kill them and avenge him,” Grant announced. Upon hearing this, Adrian pushed on Grant’s head and said, “It isn’t right for you to think that way. You should aspire to study well and make a lot of money when you’re older so that you can give your mother and sister a good life. You shouldn’t live in hatred,” said Adrian. “But—” Adrian shook his head and interrupted, “Someone else will avenge your father. Your mission is to take good care of your mother and sister. Be a good man, okay?” “Okay, sir.” Adrian chuckled and said to the ten-year-old Gwen, “You too. Study well and be a dutiful daughter to your mother when you’re older and love your brother, okay?” Gwen answered, “Okay.” Adrian pat the two children’s heads tenderly. Then, he stood up and said to Wrenley, “Madam, I’m so sorry about Daniel.” Wrenley said, “Don’t blame yourself, Adrian. This matter was not within your control. I will not think of anything else other than to see my children grow up healthy and safe.” Adrian said, “They will. They will be no lesser than Daniel in the future. Teach them well. If you face any hardships in life, don’t carry the burden on your own. Call Wyvern Peak’s internal number and someone will come to help you. Your most important task now is to take good care of your children.” “I will,” replied Wrenley.
