Chapter 1059

Adrian received a checkup in the afternoon to confirm that his infected wound was fully healed and was only then permitted to leave the hospital. Gloria had packed up. They swiftly got into a car without alerting anyone and left Novemton to return to Swallowston. *** It was dusk. A nineteen-year-old girl was waiting quietly under the setting sun in a distant mountain village. She stood at the village entrance, staring at the road leading to the village. Every time a car drove past, she would get excited and think her beloved had returned. But the cars drove past one by one, and she was disappointed over and over again. However, she did not give up hope. At last, a bus stopped at the village entrance. The girl excitedly looked toward the bus. It left after a man got off. He held a crutch in one hand and a bouquet of flowers in the other. He stood there silently, smiling at the girl. It was Ridge. The girl’s face was instantly drenched in tears when she saw him. She was overwhelmed by emotions that she was shaking as she ran toward him in tears. They hugged tightly and shut their eyes to bask in the joy of their reunion. “You’re back,” said the girl in a hoarse voice as tears streamed down her face. He nodded heavily. “I’m sorry for making you worry, Vicky. But as you can see, I only have one leg now. Are you still willing to be with me?” he asked. One of Ridge’s legs had been amputated to ensure his survival. She shook her head and said, “I’ll be with you regardless of your circumstances. I want to be with you!” They hugged each other once again and refused to part for a long time. *** When night came, Gloria was still driving on the highway. She said, “Mya headed back earlier. I heard that her grandfather suddenly fell ill so she went back to visit him. The rest of the people have returned to their homes too. “Oh, and Ridge’s leg has been amputated but he’s safe. He applied for retirement and returned to his family home as his girl was waiting for him. I heard she’s been patiently waiting for Ridge to return ever since he got trapped in Serpent’s Haven. It’s rare to witness a love so deep.” Adrian nodded upon hearing Gloria’s words. Ridge’s journey had come to an end. Adrian then asked, “Where’s Daniel buried?” Gloria replied, “His body was salvaged from the sea and delivered to his family home. His family will be burying him in his hometown. Daniel’s son and daughter are strong.” “We’ll visit him before heading home,” said Adrian. The next morning, Adrian and Gloria arrived at a small town in Northrive. Daniel was born in this small town, and his family members and ancestors had spent their whole lives here. Daniel was buried in the wheatfield outside of town. It was summer now so the field was lush green and spanned as far as the eye could see. Adrian and Gloria parked outside and walked toward the wheatfield as they held each other. There was a newly-erected headstone and bouquets of flowers laid before it. The mourning townsfolk had placed the flowers there in honor of Daniel’s memory.
