Chapter 90 Daniel's Worry
If Marcus had been the one speaking, Jacob might have had something to say, but it was Daniel who uttered these words.
There was a hint of sadness in Daniel's eyes, and seeing his grandfather's expression made Jacob feel even more distressed.
"I'm sorry, Grandpa. I didn't mean to be such a bother. These are gifts for my sister-in-law. If you don't want to accept them, you can just throw them away."
After saying this, Jacob left the villa. Marcus noticed the items on the table, picked them up, and went after him. Once outside, Marcus shouted at Jacob, warning him not to return.
Daniel let out a sigh.
Sabrina looked at Daniel with concern. She could sense the atmosphere in the house had become strange since Jacob's arrival. Even the usually good-tempered Daniel and Marcus had become agitated.
"He's Jacob, Curtis' younger brother. Curtis didn't tell you about him, and I haven't mentioned it either. We had little to do with him for a long time. I didn't expect him to show up today. Don't tell Curtis about this. He'll have a strong reaction if he finds out."
Sabrina wanted to ask for more details about what had transpired between the two brothers, but she held her tongue.
"Don't you want to ask about what happened between the brothers?" Daniel looked at Sabrina with concern, but she still refrained from asking.
"I'm not sure how to approach the subject, and I'm still trying to process everything that's been happening recently."
Daniel sighed and continued, "Well, it's not something I can't talk about. The brothers are on bad terms. Curtis is the elder brother so they tend to pamper Jacob more, often ignoring Curtis' feelings. That's why Curtis's character is different from other children. As I've mentioned before, he has less empathy than others, mainly because of this.
"Furthermore, some other events happened that made Curtis, at a young age, want nothing to do with the family. So I brought him home with me, and he's been with me ever since."
Daniel didn't want to go into the details of what had transpired, as it was a painful subject for him. However, Sabrina could sense that whatever had happened was related to Jacob.
"Remember, don't tell Curtis about this. I don't know what Jacob's intentions are for coming here today, but the brothers' relationship isn't that great, and they haven't seen each other for years. The last time they met, Curtis put Jacob in the hospital."
Sabrina's eyes widened; she was shocked to learn that Curtis had resorted to violence.
"But what if Curtis accidentally finds out about what happened today?" she said.
Sabrina was concerned about how long Jacob would stay in the area. If Jacob went directly to Curtis, it could cause problems. Her worries were valid, and Daniel shared her concerns.
"Don't worry. I've already informed Victor about this situation. Victor knows how to handle it. But Jacob is a cunning one; now that he's come to talk to you, be careful not to let him deceive you with anything."
Marcus snorted but restrained himself from saying more, especially with Daniel present. He simply kept emphasizing the importance of Sabrina being cautious and not falling for Jacob's tricks.
After the commotion, Daniel had no appetite for dinner and went back to his room, making it clear that he didn't want to be disturbed.
Once Daniel left, Marcus pulled Sabrina aside and secretly began to share more about the long-standing issues between the two brothers.
Sabrina didn't want to listen, but Marcus didn't seem to notice. He went on talking.
"Don't be fooled by Jacob's innocent appearance. In reality, he's quite malicious. He used to bully Curtis when they were kids, and because Curtis was ignored by the family, he's become the way he is now.
"And recently, he must have heard about Curtis' improved life and his marriage to you. Jacob's probably envious. You're quite beautiful, so he's likely harboring malicious intent," Marcus spoke with disdain, and Sabrina was overwhelmed by the information.
"What kind of trouble is he trying to cause?"
"Of course, he'll try to sow discord in your marriage, possibly even try to make you two divorce. This guy can't stand seeing Curtis living a good life, so he'll surely resort to something like this."
Marcus had long seen through Jacob's real intentions, which was why he was cautioning Sabrina in this manner.
Sabrina was overwhelmed by the revelation that Curtis's family had its fair share of conflicts, much like her own.
"Isn't there any way to avoid him? I haven't even resolved the issues in my own family, and now Jacob is here to stir up trouble."
"What you're saying, we understand it all too well. So don't worry, Victor and I will figure out a way to handle this. But you must not tell Curtis about this. If Curtis retaliates, it'll be hard to make a comeback from there. And Jacob might even report it to their parents. They will side with Jacob regardless of the truth, then things will get really complicated."
The more Marcus talked, the angrier he became, and this started to affect Sabrina's emotions as well. She didn't know the exact situation Curtis was in, but hearing Marcus speak this way made her upset. If what Marcus said was true, Jacob meant bad news.
"So, we agree on this, alright? You absolutely must not tell Curtis about this. Try to be discreet," Marcus emphasized.
Sabrina widened her eyes, wondering when she had agreed to all of this.
"What are you asking Sabrina to hide from me?" A voice rang from behind.
