Chapter 88 Curtis's Secret

Ada's expression became rather strange when Sabrina brought up Barry. Ada would stutter, but somehow not a word came out of her mouth. This made Sabrina highly skeptical about Ada's claims. Sabrina looked at Ada as if she could see through her disguise and uncover her true nature. "Since you can't even tell me where Barry is now, I have every reason to doubt the authenticity of your injuries and any connection to him. If there's nothing else, it's best that you leave. If you ever want to visit me again, make sure you have a good reason, and don't let me see through your lies." Marcus had been concerned that Sabrina would be deceived, but her response reassured him. He realized that accompanying her had been the right decision in handling this situation. Curtis had warned Marcus and Victor about Ada's dubious intentions and had even advised them to be cautious. Now, Marcus felt glad that he had followed that advice. Marcus could read people and understand what was going on in their minds. He could see through Ada's insincerity and vanity in her eyes. "If we're done here, let's head back," he said. Sabrina nodded in agreement. She didn't want to continue engaging with Ada, who seemed to be going in circles with incoherent excuses. They got back into the car. However, Ada stood in front of their car and wouldn't budge, which left them puzzled. "Is she out of her mind?" Marcus wondered aloud. "Why is she blocking our way?" Sabrina was equally exasperated. She disliked dealing with people who resorted to such stubborn tactics. "Sabrina, get out of the car," Ada demanded. "You don't want to help me, do you? You think I'm a fraud. But let me tell you, your husband is the real deceiver. I know his secrets. If you come down here, I'll tell you everything. You have to help me. I'm begging you." Marcus became anxious. He turned to Sabrina. Sabrina remained calm, and she looked back at Marcus. "This woman is definitely making up stories. Curtis and I have known each other since childhood. He couldn't have any secrets of significance. Don't listen to her nonsense," Marcus said. Sabrina, however, was not entirely convinced by Marcus's words. But, it didn't matter to her what secrets Curtis had. They weren't her concern at all. "I know what she's saying isn't true. I'll go down and listen to her, though. She's in our way, and if someone else comes behind us, it'll only cause more inconvenience for others," Sabrina said. Sabrina got out of the car and approached Ada. Meanwhile, Marcus quickly called Curtis. Back in the office, Curtis had his head buried in his work. When he heard what Marcus said, his expression became even more solemn. "I understand. I'm on my way back now. Keep an eye on Ada and Sabrina. If she says something she shouldn't, try to keep Sabrina calm," Curtis instructed. Curtis couldn't understand how Ada had discovered any secrets about him, especially given his discrete nature. There was no way Ada could have found out about anything significant. Nevertheless, he wanted to meet Ada to understand her intentions better. Marcus agreed to the task. However, just as he stepped out of the car, Sabrina made a stop gesture, indicating that he should stay in the car. Marcus was torn between wanting to go and help Sabrina and his concerns about Curtis's secrets getting exposed. "If you don't believe me, you can investigate it yourself. If he's just normal staff at a company, how could he afford all his hefty expenses? Also, how could he become buddies with the company's CEO? Don't you find that weird? And has it never crossed your mind why his friends treat him as if he is above them?" Ada shared her theory with such confidence, but Sabrina remained silent after hearing her. "What exactly are you trying to tell me?" Sabrina asked. "I'm just warning you not to be deceived by him. These men who hide their true identities are dangerous. They play with your emotions, make you fall for them, and then disappear," Ada blurted out without thinking. Seeing Sabrina's silent reaction, Ada breathed a sigh of relief. At least her words had stirred something in Sabrina. However, much to her dismay, the next second, Sabrina raised her head and gazed at Ada with a puzzled and speechless expression as she said, "I don't know where or how you came to such conclusions, but I want you to know that my relationship with Curtis is none of your business. Come to think of it, how did you know he's hiding his true identity to get close to ordinary people? That's not something typically within your social circle, is it?" Ada had blurted out her "theories" without giving them much thought beforehand. She hadn't noticed how off her words sounded. Some of the things she mentioned were clearly beyond her usual social milieu, yet she could articulate them with such detail. It did indeed make her pretty suspicious. "I just wanted to give you a heads-up. I don't want you to be deceived by someone else!" Ada said. "My relationship is none of your business. I think you should be more concerned about your situation with Barry."
