Chapter 82 I'll Help You

With the Barry situation resolved, the next issue to tackle was his 100,000-dollar debt. While she was hiding in the bedroom earlier, Sabrina had overheard Curtis suggesting that Barry find a lawyer to handle this matter, even mentioning her name. However, Sabrina didn't know any reputable lawyers herself. "What about your college senior? Isn't he a lawyer? His professional skills are unquestionable," Curtis said, forgetting the man's name but not his distaste for him. Sabrina suddenly recalled who Curtis was referring to. However, since she and Finnick had discussed their feelings previously, she hadn't met him since. It would be quite awkward to approach him now. "But we aren't that close, and it might be awkward to ask for help. Don't you know any lawyers?" Sabrina hesitated to involve Finnick unless absolutely necessary. Curtis found Sabrina's reaction peculiar. While he could recommend reliable lawyers, those lawyers might not be as invested in helping resolve this matter as Finnick would be. That was why he suggested Barry contact Sabrina instead. "Both of you were college mates with a substantial connection. While finding other lawyers is possible, you need to consider one thing carefully. This issue involves the loan shark, and although a lawyer can handle it, there are risks involved. You should find a lawyer who genuinely wants to help your brother resolve this matter," Curtis said. This was a critical time for Barry. If his debt issue with the loan shark went awry, it would spoil their chances of getting Barry back to his feet. "Alright, I'll give Finnick a call and see if he's available, but he's quite busy, so I can't guarantee he'll agree to help," she said. Curtis's point was valid. They needed someone who would follow through with the case. Sabrina decided to call Finnick to discuss the matter; if it didn't work out, they would consider other options. Curtis sipped from his glass of water and watched Sabrina make a call by the window. For some reason, seeing her talk to another man made him extremely uncomfortable, but he couldn't pinpoint why. Shortly after the phone rang, Finnick picked up and sounded surprised. "Sabrina, what's up?" He jumped straight into business, which made Sabrina feel uneasy. "Well, it's been a while since we talked, and I wanted to check on how you're doing at work," she replied, attempting to divert the conversation from the impending problem. "It's going well. The company offers great benefits, and I have the opportunity to work on various projects. I'm satisfied with my job. Is there something specific you need by calling me? Do you want me to handle a legal case for you?" Finnick, being a lawyer, was efficient and direct in his words. "There's been a bit of trouble, and I was wondering if you could..." Sabrina hesitated and struggled to explain the situation. "I'll help you," Finnick replied firmly, catching Sabrina off guard. She hadn't even disclosed the nature of the issue. She wanted him to know the details before making a commitment. "I haven't even told you what the issue is, and you've already agreed?" Sabrina was puzzled. She could not help wondering if he had agreed too quickly. Finnick's laughter followed, "No matter what the issue is, I'll help you. That's what friends are for. Do you not consider me a friend?" Sabrina was relieved to hear that. "It's actually about my brother," Sabrina took a deep breath and explained the whole situation to Finnick, including Curtis and Barry's conversation. Finnick remained silent for a while after listening. Sabrina started to feel unsure, thinking that the matter might be too troublesome for him to handle. "This matter could be a bit complicated. Do you have your brother's contact? I should talk to him directly. The situation may be easier to address this way." Dealing with the situation through Sabrina seemed a bit complicated. Finnick preferred to discuss it directly with Barry. Hearing this, Sabrina was hesitant about involving Finnick further. "If it's too complicated, I'll think of an alternative. I'm sorry to have taken up your time." "What other better options do you have in mind? When I say it's complicated, it's because I don't have all the specific details. I'll talk to your brother, you don't need to overthink the situation," Finnick said, sounding somewhat resigned. "Alright, I'll give your contact to my brother when he calls me," Sabrina agreed, feeling like she was giving him a headache with this issue. Finnick smiled, appreciating Sabrina's usual quirkiness. "Okay, I'll wait for your message." They chatted for a bit more, then hung up. Sabrina approached Curtis, who wore a dark expression while fiddling with his phone. He immediately put the phone down when she approached. "Is everything sorted out?" he said. Sabrina smiled faintly and said, "It's almost sorted out. Finnick wants to get in touch with Barry first. Once Barry calls, I'll give him Finnick's contact number." "You were on the phone for quite a while. Was it about the same matter we discussed?" he said. "No, not entirely. We talked about other things too. You can't just call someone for help and leave it at that. I plan to invite him to dinner tomorrow night as a way of showing our gratitude. Would you like to join us?" Sabrina said. Curtis shook his head. "I won't be joining you. You two enjoy tomorrow's dinner. Let's go, we should head back." Curtis packed his belongings, and Sabrina quickly followed suit. As they headed back in silence, Sabrina could sense that Curtis was in a somewhat unpleasant mood, as if he was angry about something. What could have possibly made Curtis upset? "Did something go wrong at the company?" Sabrina suddenly said, leaving Curtis somewhat puzzled.
