Chapter 74 Maltreating Ada?!

Barry's "logic" threw Sabrina off the loop. What the hell did the fight have anything to do with her? Why should she have jumped in and "helped" Ada? It did not make any sense! "Maybe you should visit the neurosurgeon while you're still at the hospital, because that's one of the most absurd logic ever! Just because the fight took place in front of my office doesn't mean I was there when it happened!" Sabrina retorted. "Your colleagues were there! You could have asked them to stand up for her! You should have done something instead of just letting her be maltreated!" Sabrina could flip a table. Was Barry insinuating that she maltreated Ada? "And why would any of my colleagues get their nose bloody or bones broken to help me help a woman they don't know? And honestly, if Ada didn't call me, I wouldn't have known this happened!" she snapped. "There's also another thing I wonder if she told you. Ada was fighting with my ex-boyfriend, Barry. That's suspicious! Why don't you go ask her about that? If it was over the money Aaron failed to return to her, Ada could have just talked things over instead of throwing hands!" Unfortunately, Barry was too hung up by Ada's incident and Sabrina's lack of reaction and the implication of the former being suspicious. "How can you say this?! She's one of us! We should protect one of our own! Why do I have to spell this out for you?!" Sabrina fell silent. She placed her phone a distance away from her and let Barry scream into the phone alone. Half an hour passed. She was near the end of her work and Barry was still ranting. Finally, when she was done, he was puffing to himself at the other side of the phone. Whining to Sabrina had been a strenuous exercise to his lungs. "Are you done now? If you're still gonna be pissed about this, then maybe we should talk about this some other time. You think I was maltreating Ada, right? Well, explain why she's staying in my place right now! What more do you think I can even do?!" Any last ounce of rage Barry had evaporated. "T-That's not what I mean! I was just saying you should have helped her! She was so helpless, you know?" "Excuse me? Are you out of your mind?! I'm no Wonder Woman, either! You think I can what, punch a man out of the stratosphere? You care so much about your girlfriend without giving a damn about me, your sister!" Sabrina snapped. "And what if I lose my job over this fistfight?! Are you or Grandpa going to be the breadwinner for me?" She honestly wished she could just slap Barry awake. That man had zero idea just how ridiculous the shit he said had been! She ended the call without giving a damn about what Barry was thinking. It hurt him, but he swallowed it and called Ada again… just so he could comfort her one more time. * Curtis had noticed Sabrina's extra stream as soon as she got home. It bewildered him to see the change from her good spirit in the afternoon to this. "Barry is a jackass! A moron! He actually blamed me for not interfering in that fight between Aaron and Ada! And that my colleagues should have intercepted and—uh, just repeating his talking points make me feel as braindead as he is!" Sabrina began. She had been wanting to express her rage for a long time, and since Curtis was around, he became her unwitting target. Curtis did not reply to her. He knew Sabrina was looking for an outlet, not suggestions. He let her finish and listened earnestly before opening a bottle of water for her. "Do you have proof that Ada is after your house or money? If you do, we can use it to wake Barry up from his sleep and make him realize he's been played," he finally said. Sabrina hung her head. Proof? God, no. All she had was noticing something was off with Ada's mannerisms. She did not have the time to gather evidence at all. "Well, I'm sure they'll fight again soon enough. It won't be the last time, I bet." Sabrina agreed and decided to cast the issue aside. They drove out and checked on Ada for a bit; Sabrina had wanted to talk to her, but the call with Barry soured her mood and perception of Ada enough that she changed her mind. They left after a brief visit. On their way home, they encountered Marcus in the middle of delivering a parcel. Curtis's eye twitched at the sight. "Hey, it's Marcus! He's awfully hardworking, isn't he?" Sabrina wanted to greet him, but Curtis stopped her. "Don't. You see that bag? It's full of parcels. He's working, so we best leave him be." The truth, however, was that he could not believe what Marcus was doing. Did that guy really see himself as a deliveryman now? What the hell was with his dedication to his "role"? Curtis rubbed his temples. Victor would talk about Sabrina all the time in the day, and now Marcus was apparently being a deliveryman at night. Were these two just trying to mess with him?
