Chapter 61 Wrapped in His Embrace

"So, we have to wait for Ada to recover to get the full story, is that it?" Sabrina questioned, eyeing Victor closely. Victor gave a tired nod. "Exactly, that's the plan," he confirmed. There seemed to be no use in pressing the issue further at the moment. It was what it was, for now. "I don't think Ada's trustworthy," Curtis suddenly piped up. "I've already asked the police to investigate her, but we won't get any results for a while. In the meantime, try not to get into an argument with your brother over her. Chances are, he's in the dark about this too." Sabrina pursed her lips, not saying anything. She knew she had to keep her cool. If there was a problem with Ada, she would require irrefutable evidence to convince her stubborn brother. "So, that's all we know for now. I'm heading to bed," Victor said, letting out a yawn before heading upstairs. He was clearly worn out. With Victor gone, Sabrina urged Curtis to go get some rest too. Since everyone assumed they were a couple, it was not weird for them to share a room. Having shared a bed before, neither felt awkward as only fatigue remained. When Sabrina woke up the next morning, she was mortified. They had gone to bed side by side, each wrapped in their own blanket. Somehow, when she woke up, she found herself wrapped in Curtis' embrace. As for her own blanket, it was still on her while Curtis' had fallen to the floor. Sabrina felt her entire body flush with embarrassment. Thankfully, Curtis was still asleep. She dreaded the thought of confronting him awake in such an unintended embrace. As she gingerly attempted to sit up, Curtis opened his eyes. Their eyes met, and Sabrina blushed. Still, for some reason, she greeted him. "Uh, you're awake," she stammered, a nervous laugh escaping her. Her face was a picture of discomfort, but Curtis seemed unfazed. It was as if waking up with Sabrina in his arms was the most natural thing. He acknowledged her with a simple nod, then slipped away to ready himself for the day. Left alone on the bed, Sabrina exhaled in relief. 'Good thing he didn’t make a big deal out of it. I don’t know how I would deal with such an awkward situation,' she mused. She sat there for a moment, running her fingers through her hair, mentally scolding herself for her earlier panic. When they both reached the dining room, Daniel and Victor were already deep in conversation. "Good to see you both," Daniel greeted them with a smile. "Marcus should be here any minute with our meals. I have to say, his delivery service is pretty efficient," said Daniel. After nearly slipping up last time, Marcus had been extremely careful not to reveal his true identity. He had even gone as far as actually purchasing the shipping company, The Delivery Squawk. When Victor found out that afternoon, he had a good laugh at Marcus's expense. 'See? This is why it's important to maintain a certain image from the start,' Victor thought to himself. In his case, he had presented himself as a big-shot businessman, and now all he had to deal with was people coming to him for favors. A slight inconvenience, but nothing more. Settling into her chair, Sabrina's mind was a whirlpool of thoughts as she tried to pause for a moment to collect herself. "Ah, there's something else I wanted to ask you." Victor suddenly moved closer to Sabrina, making her feel a bit uneasy as she shifted away. "What is it?" "If it turns out that Ada is a fraud, won't that make the rift between you and your brother even worse? How do you plan on resolving that?" Sabrina had wrestled with the same concern, which had stolen her sleep. To truly resolve the issue, she first needed to understand the dynamics between her brother and Ada. Otherwise, how could she fix what she did not understand? "I'll wait for more information on Ada to come out, then I'll talk to my brother about it. But for now, I definitely can't go to the hospital. It'll only spark another argument with him." Sabrina massaged her temples, weary from considering how defensive her brother was of Ada. She had not said anything unreasonable, but her mere speculations were enough to make him that mad. She sensed something was off, but she did not dwell on it. In her view, evidence was the only way they could all get through this. Their conversation was interrupted by Marcus’s arrival in a Delivery Squawk uniform. And shortly after, Curtis descended from upstairs. To maintain his cover in front of Sabrina, Marcus was dressed in a Delivery Squawk uniform, looking quite the part. The sight of the uniform stirred Sabrina’s memory of Marcus claiming to be some sort of a wealthy heir. "Me? No way. I used to be one though, but those days are now behind me. My family's assets have long been squandered by my parents. I'm starting over now. But you know how it is with men, our pride lingers. So, when I’m out and about, I still tell people I'm a wealthy heir." Marcus explained casually to the dumbfounded silence of the others. Daniel glanced at the trio, thinking Victor was the only honest one among them. Shaking his head, he mused, 'Young people these days, always overlooking the consequences. But it doesn't matter. They'll figure it out themselves.' After dinner, Marcus and Victor left. Victor did not actually live at the villa. It was simply one of his properties that was usually vacant. He saw no issue in lending it to Sabrina and Curtis for the night. Not feeling particularly sleepy due to her afternoon nap, Sabrina found herself sitting in the living room, gazing out into the night. Meanwhile, Curtis was preoccupied in the study room alone, appreciating the quiet of the night. Daniel, who was having trouble sleeping, approached her. "What's on your mind?" Clearly, Ada had not been truthful. Her story had been riddled with inconsistencies, and the authorities were already delving into the matter. Daniel's curiosity was piqued, but not about the investigation. He wanted to understand Sabrina's perspective. She looked at Daniel and shook her head after a moment. "Honestly, I don't know. I never suspected her until you all mentioned it. Now, I can't help but wonder that if Ada really is trouble, what part does my brother play in all of this?"
