Chapter 62 A Face-To-Face Meeting

Sabrina did not necessarily distrust Barry. The circumstances were just strikingly convenient. "I need to see my brother about this. I'm getting the impression he's hiding something from me." Daniel saw the concern etched on Sabrina's face and offered a comforting pat on the shoulder. "If you're set on discovering the truth, then take Curtis with you. I'm afraid you'll end up in a dispute if you confront your brother alone." A heated exchange seemed inevitable, but the priority was to consult her brother first. "I'd rather not drag Curtis into this; he's swamped with work and has barely had any rest. It would be pointless if my brother refuses to speak simply because Curtis is there, then it'll be a waste of time." Sabrina replied, reluctant to impose on Curtis further. Daniel immediately understood the nuances of Sabrina's hesitations. Sabrina and Curtis were still profoundly strangers to one another. "Let him accompany you. It'll ease my mind. If you're uneasy asking, I'll do it for you," he insisted. Before Sabrina could protest, a masculine voice came from behind her. Curtis had just come down from his study. "So, what are we talking about?" He took off his glasses to reveal a more intense look, like someone not to be trifled with. Sabrina had never seen him like this. He was usually so in control, but now his emotions were palpable. Sabrina felt an unexpected intensity emanating from him. "Sabrina wants to visit Barry. You should go with her," Daniel said calmly. Sabrina was ready to decline the idea when Curtis readily accepted. "We'll go first thing tomorrow." His swift agreement left Sabrina in a daze. Curtis' eagerness felt surreal, yet there was an undeniable sincerity in his stance. The next morning, a groggy Sabrina was pulled out of bed by Curtis. "Let's go, time for the hospital." Sharing a bed had its drawbacks, Sabrina mused, rubbing her head in annoyance. A restless night had left her feeling burdened with an unnamed weight. In a sleep-deprived state, the prospect of visiting her brother stirred a sense of unease within her. However, her morning grumpiness quickly subsided at the sight of Curtis. As they exited the villa, Sabrina was taken aback to see Curtis in the driver’s seat of a Cayenne. "Where did you get this car?" At Sabrina’s astonished look, Curtis responded with a laugh, "The villa is Victor’s. Is it so odd that I’d drive his car?" 'It isn't strange, but isn't it a bit inappropriate?' mused Sabrina. Sabrina felt uneasy, her mind not even considering that Curtis might own such a vehicle. And besides, Victor was Curtis' boss. This could get awkward if not handled carefully. "Fine, stop overthinking it. It's at least a half-hour walk from the villa to the bus stop. If you're up for it, I have no complaints." Curtis could clearly see the wheels turning in Sabrina's mind and felt a bit helpless. If only he had not made his own persona so complicated. Now, he was stuck, unsure how to turn this mess back to normal. Sabrina’s eyes went wide, thinking, 'Would it really take that long? In that case, I might as well take the car. Who cares? Even Curtis, who's working as Victor's assistant, doesn't see any issue with it. Why should I?' They got into a car and headed swiftly towards the hospital. Along the way, Sabrina's phone rang. It was a call from Ada. "Why is Ada calling me at this time?" Sabrina cast a sidelong glance at Curtis, unsure whether to take the call. Her hesitance stemmed from the terrifying events at her home the other day, making her reluctant to have any contact with Ada. Curtis caught her gaze and reassured her, "Answer it, but put it on speaker and record it. I'm right here, you have nothing to worry about." Emboldened by Curtis' words, Sabrina answered the call, activating the speaker and recording function. "Hey Sabrina, it's Ada." Ada’s voice was weary, reflecting a lack of rest. Given the recent turmoil, it was no surprise that neither had been sleeping well. "What’s going on?" Sabrina asked. "Look, I'm really sorry about what happened to your family. I never expected things to go south like that. I'll find a way to make it up to you. Also, about my ex-boyfriend... Could you temporarily find somewhere else to stay? I'm worried he might snap and cause trouble for you," Ada's voice seemed tinged with genuine concern. Sabrina and Curtis exchanged a look. He gave her a reassuring nod, signaling her to continue. "I get it, you're a victim too. You should move out of the house as soon as you can too while the police are still investigating." Sabrina was deeply unsettled. Her mind raced with concerns about selling her house in the aftermath of these events. Her grandfather was still in the hospital, unconscious. She had to consider their future. Also, with no resolution to Ada's situation, Sabrina could not blindly take her side. "I understand. Can we meet up? There's something I want to talk to you about." Ada hedged, clearly aiming to broach the main topic. The proposition left Sabrina uneasy, with the pain of a colleague's recent betrayal still lingering fresh in her mind. Meeting up with Ada now did not seem like a good idea. She turned to Curtis again for advice, half-expecting him to discourage her. To her astonishment, he nodded in approval. 'Why does it need to be a face-to-face meeting? Can't we discuss it over the phone? The thought of meeting up is making me anxious,' Sabrina thought to herself. "We can meet, but not today. How about another day, is that okay with you?" "Sure, once I've rested up, we can meet. Is that okay?" "Absolutely." With that, the meet up was arranged. Sabrina ended the call and looked at Curtis, clearly puzzled. Why would he want her to meet with Ada?
