Chapter 60 The Disparity Between People

Victor was wealthy. Very wealthy in fact. The accommodation he arranged for them was not just any random house, but a luxurious villa. The villa was in an excellent location, and its market value was well above a million. When Sabrina saw the villa, she was taken aback. She couldn't help but exclaim at the disparity between people. While she was still agonizing over a small house, some others were enjoying living in a villa. It was truly a gap that seemed impossible to bridge. However, Sabrina didn't dwell on it too much. After all, the villa wasn't hers, and she couldn't change the circumstances. After helping them settle down in the Villa, Victor hurried off to the police station. Sabrina sat on the sofa, feeling very agitated, especially when she thought about her brother. His attitude made her even more angry. She wasn't picking a fight with him, nor did she intend to argue with him, but his behavior was truly unacceptable. After all, she was his sister and couldn't possibly harm him. How could he speak to her like that? "Don't worry too much. Barry is a good kid, that's beyond doubt. This situation happened suddenly, and he didn't have time to process it. It's normal for him to not be able to accept it right away when you brought it up to him so straightforwardly." Daniel was aware of the unpleasant quarrel between the siblings on the phone. It was hard for him to say who was right or wrong in this situation. The sudden occurrence took Sabrina by surprise, so it was understandable that her words to Barry weren't pleasant. However, Daniel couldn't help but feel unsure about Barry's attitude. They were siblings! Having known each other for so long, one would think they would have understood each other's true intentions. But obviously, Barry didn't fully understand where his sister was coming from. However, Daniel couldn't say that out loud. His only aim was to comfort Sabrina. Sabrina looked at Daniel and smiled. "I know. Although I'm a little angry, I'm more concerned that Barry might fall into her trap. He can be a bit stubborn and not very receptive to what others say." In this regard, the siblings were quite similar. Sabrina could already imagine how angry and resentful Barry would be if he realized he had been deceived. But it was too early to say that now because there was no evidence to prove that Ada was a fraud; it was just their speculation. "Don't think too much for now. Victor said he asked someone to send some food over, so let's eat first, rest for a bit, and then discuss the situation when Curtis comes back." Sabrina nodded in agreement. Curtis and Victor only returned together on the afternoon of the following day. Both of them looked exhausted, and they had grave expressions. Sabrina asked nervously, "What's happened? Is it something serious?" Sabrina had put her work on hold as she couldn't focus on her job. Her relationship with Victor was no longer a secret at her workplace, so she didn't care much about what others might say. What mattered to her right now was to handle the issue with Ada. Curtis sat on the sofa, rubbing his temples. He was about to say something when Sabrina brought a glass of warm water for him. She said, "You've had a long day. You should rest a bit, and we can discuss the situation in the neighboring house when you've gotten some rest." Curtis was a bit surprised by her suggestion. He initially thought Sabrina was anxious and was going to press him for information. He had been busy with the police investigations and whatnot the entire night, and there was also a lot of work for him to deal with in the company. Honestly, he was dead tired. Her reaction was a pleasant surprise. He said, "I'm fine. The situation with your house is more important. You've been waiting for updates." Even though they had moved here temporarily to be safe, neither Sabrina nor Daniel had been able to rest properly. Sabrina, in particular, looked exhausted. She said, "I can wait. Your well-being is more important. We can talk about it later." Seeing the two of them deflecting and prioritizing each other's well-being, Victor found it a bit amusing. "Alright, you're both pretty stubborn, huh? Let me do the explaining then." Victor interjected. Since no one else was willing to speak, he took the initiative. Since Victor had offered to share the news, Curtis didn't object. He leaned back on the sofa, closed his eyes for a moment of rest. He had lost a considerable amount of time on this issue today. Even though he had asked Marcus to help manage some of the work, the more critical matters still required his personal attention. "First of all, the bloodstains in your room are real. Regarding Ada, well, she was taken away by her ex-boyfriend." This was indeed a rather dramatic turn of events. After the incident, they had gone to the police station to report the case, but to their surprise, they encountered Ada there as well. She had come to report her situation but seemed in quite a frantic state. She had visible injuries and her clothes were torn, suggesting that she had been through something unpleasant. Ada was desperate to explain what had happened to the police and hadn't noticed Curtis and the others were also present. She was quite agitated, and her speech was incoherent and illogical. She rambled on and recounted the situation in a disjointed manner. It took the others a while to piece together what had happened recently. According to Ada's statement, when she returned to Sabrina's apartment unit for some rest, her ex-boyfriend unexpectedly arrived. She had unknowingly and unsuspectingly opened the door for him. He had always been resentful that they broke up, especially since she had found a new partner. It made him feel inadequate in comparison. He demanded that Ada reconcile with him, but she refused, leading to a violent confrontation between them. As a result, Ada was injured, resulting in the bloodstains in Sabrina's apartment. To escape the abusive situation, Ada put up some fight to flee from her ex-boyfriend's clutches. In her struggle to escape, the house and furniture inside had been thrown into chaos. Eventually, her ex-boyfriend forcibly dragged her away. But somehow, Ada had managed to escape after that. Upon hearing the story, Sabrina appeared confused. She found the whole situation rather unusual and had doubts. "But how did she manage to escape from her ex-boyfriend? Are we sure it was her boyfriend who was responsible for the assault? If the story's true, that guy's a maniac, and maniacs like him won't easily let Ada go, right?" Victor nodded. He too, had his doubts about Ada's statement. He had sensed something was amiss from the beginning, but Ada's emotional state was too unstable at the time to provide more details. Hence, the full story remained unclear.
