Chapter 59 She’s a Con Artist

"What happened?" Daniel asked gravely as he turned around and signaled for Victor to get them a glass of warm water. Curtis covered Sabrina with a blanket and held her tightly in his arms. "Her home has been ransacked. There's even blood. Marcus, call the police." Victor sat beside Sabrina, looking at her with concern, trying to understand the situation. Curtis recounted the condition of the apartment to them and everyone's face grew increasingly grim. "Is Ada some kind of con artist? We know she's the only was who has been staying next door the entire time. What are those things that we found there, and where is she now?" Sabrina gradually regained her composure, sitting up from Curtis's embrace. Even though she was still tightly wrapped in the blanket, her spirits seemed much better than before. None of them had any knowledge of what had occurred in the neighboring apartment, so they couldn't provide Sabrina with an answer. Nobody knew what was happening in the neighboring apartment, and they couldn't provide Sabrina with any answers. "It doesn't matter if she's a scam artist or what happened, the police have been notified, and we'll soon get some answers," Curtis said. They had suspected Ada's true identity for some time, but they never expected it to be worse than they had imagined. "We can't stay here anymore. Let's stay at a hotel tonight," Curtis said as he stood up to start packing. They couldn't be sure of the situation next door, so for everyone's safety, they couldn't stay there today. Daniel understood and didn't object. He patted Sabrina's shoulder and expressed his concern. "Call Barry, ask for more details. Maybe your brother knows something." Sabrina was immediately reminded and took out her phone to call Barry. At that moment, Barry had just finished eating and was lying in his hospital bed when he received the call. "What's wrong, Sabrina? Has something happened?" Barry asked. "Brother, do you know who Ada really is? How did you get to know her, and did anything unusual happen after you met her?" Sabrina's voice was filled with anxiety, and Barry couldn't help but take her seriously. However, he didn't understand why Sabrina was so insistent on asking about Ada. "Let's put aside those questions for now. I'll cut to the chase. I suspect Ada is a con artist. Tell me, how did you get to know Ada?" Sabrina's words made Barry hesitate. How could his girlfriend possibly be a con artist? Someone must have spread false rumors about Ada to Sabrina. "That's impossible. Ada is a good person, she even helped me, remember? I told you before, if it weren't for Ada, we would have lost our money to those scammers." "Barry, haven't you ever thought about why Ada was able to help you retrieve your money just when it was about to be scammed? Could this be part of Ada's plan all along?" "If what you're saying is true, then tell me what's her motive? What does our family have that she could possibly want?" Barry's tone was becoming increasingly harsh. He naturally hoped that his girlfriend and his sister could peacefully coexist, but Sabrina's phone call indicated her lack of trust in Ada. The more Barry thought about it, the angrier he became. Did Sabrina not trust Ada, or did she not trust him? Did she think he could be easily deceived by others? Sabrina was very anxious, and therefore, she didn't notice the change in Barry's tone. She sounded a bit flustered, and her tone was not very pleasant. "I don't know what she's planning, but my house is in total chaos right now. Do you understand? There are even bloodstains everywhere. I don't know what's going on. We've already called the police. If you know anything, you must tell me, do you understand?" "No, I don't. What's going on with you? You and Ada were doing just fine. Why are you saying this now? Do you think Ada's presence will affect your life? We're only here for a short time. When Grandpa gets better, I'll take him home. We won't interfere with your life here!" "Barry, you're not making sense! That's not what I meant!" "Then what did you mean? You've gone over your head! You got married without telling us, then you're suddenly calling my girlfriend a con artist? Sabrina, you've gone too far. You're not the sister I used to know anymore!" Barry was blinded with rage, and his words were crude and hurtful. Sabrina's mind went blank for a moment, and she didn't respond. She was trying to process what Barry had just said. Both of them fell silent, and the phone call was filled with an awkward silence. "The police are here," Marcus walked in from outside and informed them. Sabrina didn't say anything; she silently hung up the phone and started to walk towards the door. She had barely taken a few steps when Curtis blocked her way. "Don't go out. Stay here with Grandpa. We'll take it from here." Although they didn't yet know what had happened outside, Curtis didn't want Sabrina to go back to her apartment unit. The things they had seen in the room had already terrified Sabrina, and she likely wouldn't be able to handle any more shocking discoveries. Sabrina was left with Daniel as they waited for news, while Curtis and Marcus went to deal with the situation next door. Meanwhile, Victor finished his phone call and said, "I've arranged a place for you to stay tonight. Grandpa, you and Sabrina can pack your things, and I'll take you there now. With Curtis and Marcus handling the situation here, you don't need to worry." Daniel trusted Victor's abilities, but he couldn't help but be concerned about Sabrina's current state. He had heard the phone call she had with Barry, and it was clear that their sibling relationship was strained due to a woman. It was an unfortunate situation. "Don't worry, Sabrina. You two are siblings, bound by blood, so let Barry cool down. If there's evidence, you can talk to him later." Sabrina managed to force a smile and said, "I know, I'm just... a little worried." Right now, they didn't know where Ada had gone, and Barry and Parker were still at the hospital. If something happened to them, what would she do? However, Sabrina's thoughts were in line with Curtis's plans. He had discussed this with Victor earlier, realizing that he couldn't personally handle these matters and had decided that Victor should handle that instead. Daniel was unaware of this plan, and if he found out, he would likely be very upset. At such a critical moment, Curtis was still thinking about hiding his true identity. This hinted that he might not place as much importance on this marriage as one would expect.
