Chapter 58 Home Invasion

'What a strange guy,' was Sabrina's first thought. Her second thought was, 'Why is Ada defending him?' However, these thoughts only briefly crossed Sabrina's mind before vanishing. On the side, Victor and Marcus also seemed to feel the situation rather odd. They exchanged curious glances with each other. "Let's go; since we bought a lot of groceries today, let's have dinner together," Sabrina suggested. Amidst all the drama that happened, Sabrina totally forgot about following up with Marcus on the discrepancies in his story about his work and family. By the time the group arrived back home, Curtis was already there, waiting for them. He looked somewhat disgruntled when they all entered the house together. They had all forgotten about Curtis, so when they saw him at home, there was an awkward silence. Fortunately, Daniel emerged from his room, coughing a few times, which broke the strange tension in the room. "What are you all doing here? Staring each other down, isn't that boring?" Victor breathed a sigh of relief, and both he and Marcus headed to the kitchen with Daniel. As for Ada, she hesitated for a moment by the doorway before returning to the unit next door. With everyone out of the living room, only Sabrina and Curtis were left staring at each other. "Weren't we supposed to come back together?" Curtis questioned. Sabrina was momentarily at a loss for words. She couldn't very well say she forgot about him when they left. "We did plan to return together, but I met Victor on the way, and he told me you'd be working late today. That's why we came back earlier. Did you finish your work?" Sabrina said. She had no choice but to shift the blame onto Victor. In the kitchen, Victor overheard Sabrina's explanation and was astonished. He couldn't believe that she was spinning the story when in reality, they had all forgotten about Curtis. However, Victor, realizing that he had caused trouble for Sabrina earlier, decided not to say anything about it. He thought it was better to just accept it and move on. Curtis's expression improved slightly. He seemed relieved that it wasn't Sabrina's intention to leave him behind. "I heard about what happened at the office today. It's all Victor's fault for causing you so much trouble," Curtis said. Sabrina smiled; she didn't really blame Victor. After all, rumors eventually die down. "That's fine; tonight, I plan to visit my Barry. The doctor called me today, and it seems Grandpa's condition is improving. He might wake up in the next few days," Sabrina shared. "Really? In that case, I'll go with you," Curtis offered without much thought. In the kitchen, the three men were silent, listening attentively to the conversation between Sabrina and Curtis. "I thought their marriage wasn't going well, but now it looks like they're on good terms. Have you noticed Curtis's recent changes?" Marcus whispered to Daniel and Victor. Daniel couldn't help but chuckle. "Yes, I've noticed. He used to be so cold and reserved, but he's thawing out now." "An interesting transformation. I think it's a good thing," Daniel added. "By the way, why did you guys come back with Ada?" Daniel suddenly remembered that when they returned, Ada had come along with them. Just before they returned, Daniel was taking a walk downstairs when he ran into Ada. He saw Ada pacing back and forth multiple times, and he had no idea what she was up to. When she caught sight of Daniel, she was visibly startled. It seemed like she was worried that Daniel might discover she was up to no good. Daniel had previously had a feeling that Ada wasn't a good person, but he didn't have any evidence, so he could only caution Sabrina to be more careful. "We saw someone bothering Ada on the way home, so we helped her out," Marcus said. "I see," Daniel nodded. After dinner was prepared, Sabrina went next door to get Ada. However, after knocking on the door several times, there was still with no response. Sabrina even tried calling Ada but couldn't reach her. In the end, Sabrina had to go back and find her own house keys. "Didn't you go next door to get Ada? Where is she?" Daniel asked curiously. "She didn't answer the door, and I couldn't reach her on the phone, so I'm checking if she's fallen asleep," Sabrina said. When Sabrina opened the door and saw the state of her apartment, she was horrified. Before getting married and moving out, the apartment had been meticulously maintained, as Sabrina considered it her home. However, now it was in shambles. The sofa was overturned, the coffee table was knocked down, cups were shattered, and clothes were strewn everywhere. The most shocking sight was the mysterious red substance sprayed on the walls. It looked like her house had been ransacked. Sabrina was overwhelmed with fear and couldn't step inside. She stepped out and ran into someone. Startled, she let out a cry and turned around to see that it was Curtis. Curtis noticed Sabrina's extremely pale face and the mess inside the house. "You go back first. I'll go in there and take a look," Curtis said. However, Sabrina grabbed his wrist and said, "This is my home. Let's go inside together just in case something has happened to Ada. What if she's in trouble?" Sabrina's hands were cold, her face extremely pale, and her voice trembled. Despite this, she was determined to enter with Curtis, who didn't refuse and allowed her to accompany him. As they entered, the house was in even worse disarray than they had imagined, especially the two bedrooms. There wasn't a single clean spot! The smell in the bedroom was unbearable, and there were many flies buzzing around. Sabrina couldn't take it anymore and rushed to the bathroom, where she began to throw up. Midway through, she noticed bloodstains on the floor. "Ahhh!" Sabrina screamed in shock, and Curtis, hearing the commotion, immediately ran over. He saw Sabrina sitting on the floor, her face pale. Curtis also noticed the bloodstains on the tiles and reacted swiftly. He picked up Sabrina and carried her out. "It's okay, don't worry. I'll call the police now and let them handle it." Faced with the disturbing scene in the house, Sabrina couldn't calm down, especially when thinking about the pool of blood on the floor and the things on the walls, which terrified her even more. Sabrina clung to Curtis's neck, trembling all over. When they saw Curtis carrying Sabrina back, everyone displayed surprised expressions, especially after hearing Sabrina's earlier scream.
