Chapter 57 He Took the Wrong Road
This was an opportunity, but it also carried significant risks for Sabrina. If she couldn't turn things around in a month, people might assume she had secured the opportunity through improper means just because she knew the big boss.
However, if she could secure her place at the summit forum through her own abilities, the rumors about her and the company would lose their ground.
Sabrina was excited but also worried. What if she couldn't perform well this month? How would she handle it?
Sharon offered some advice, "I can't say for other departments, but in our department, I can assure you that anyone who wants this opportunity will have to get it through their own merits. So think about how you'll approach this."
Sabrina was very excited, but after her excitement settled, she realized there was a serious issue at hand. How could she, from the administrative department, prove herself as a winner?
"Alright, take a closer look at what's inside," Sharon said, somewhat exasperated. She wondered why Sabrina didn't check out the rest of the contents of the folder.
It was only after Sharon highlighted it that Sabrina noticed an additional document within the folder.
The document wasn't exactly a task list but could be considered an assessment standard. It indicated that whoever could secure a partnership with Sympetrum Co. within a month would earn a spot at the Ace Forum.
Of course, the document contained more than just this one task. However, Sabrina only paid attention to this particular task.
"You can consider taking on this task, but it's a bit more challenging than the others. Think it over, and for now, put the materials aside. Tomorrow, during the meeting, I'll inform everyone about this opportunity," Sharon said.
She shared this information with Sabrina today to give her some advance notice.
Sharon wanted to make sure Sabrina was well-prepared, whether through networking or other means, so she'd have an advantage over her colleagues.
Sabrina was grateful for the consideration. If she were dealing with a different supervisor, they might have scolded her or tried to win her favor through various means.
However, Sharon's approach was different. She genuinely had Sabrina's best interests in mind.

At the end of the workday, Victor, Curtis, and Sabrina left the office. Sabrina had forgotten about her prior commitment to return home with Curtis. Victor and Marcus offered to help Sabrina with her shopping.
As they left the office, Marcus took the opportunity to engage Sabrina in conversation. "I've recently been studying finance management at an entrepreneurship university. I used to work at a bank, but I found it unfulfilling. Now, I've started a logistics company."
Sabrina found Marcus's story puzzling. She remembered him mentioning that he was a second-generation wealthy individual and that their family's logistics business was successful.
She asked, "I thought you were a wealthy heir. Why did you go back to working at a bank?"
The car fell into a momentary silence as Victor drove. Marcus realized he had dug himself into a hole with his earlier statements.
At the end of the workday, Sabrina ran into Marcus and Victor.
Victor had a remorseful look on his face and he kept his head down, seeming as if he wanted to kneel down and apologize to Sabrina on the spot.
"I'm sorry. Today, I underestimated the situation. Maybe I can figure out a way to help you," Victor said.
Sabrina couldn't bear to hear these words anymore; they only made her headache worsen.
"No, please don't. I can handle it myself; there's no need for you to solve my problems. But there is something I could use your help with," Sabrina said.
"What is it?" Victor asked, getting excited at the prospect of helping.
"Can you give me a ride home? I want to buy something heavy, and it's not convenient to take it on the bus."
"Is that all?" Victor asked.
"Of course, if you think it's inconvenient, then forget I mentioned it. Let's just pretend I never asked," Sabrina replied. She didn't want to press Victor.
However, she knew he realized he had caused her trouble. If she didn't come up with some reason or excuse to for him to help her, he would keep feeling guilty about the situation.
Victor shook his head repeatedly. He hadn't expected that Sabrina's request for help would be so straightforward and simple.
"In that case, I'll help you with that. What do you need to buy?" Victor offered.
Marcus, always at the forefront of gossip, eagerly joined the conversation. Where there was gossip, there was Marcus.
Neither Victor nor Sabrina objected to his presence, so the three of them left the office together, completely forgetting about Curtis.
It wasn't until they arrived at the supermarket that Sabrina suddenly realized, was Curtis still at the office?
"I promised Grandpa that I'd go home with Curtis, and I completely forgot when I left the office just now," Sabrina said with a worried expression. She had totally forgotten about it after her chit-chat with Victor and Marcus in the office lobby.
Marcus and Victor looked at each other, surprised.
Well damn! It was surprising to hear her say that but honestly, they had suspected Curtis harbored some degree of affection or concern for Sabrina. Otherwise, he wouldn't have agreed to go home with her together.
"Don't worry; Curtis probably has a busy day at work. If you had waited to go back with him, who knows what time you'd reach home?" Victor tried to console her.
However, Sabrina couldn't help but find it strange. Curtis was only an assistant, and Victor was the CEO. Why would the CEO leave work on time while the assistant had to stay late?
Despite her confusion, Sabrina didn't question the division of tasks between Curtis and Victor. They had a boss-subordinate relationship, but they were also friends, and how they managed their work was none of her business.
After shopping, they gave Sabrina a ride home.
On the way back, Marcus, who was always eager to chat, began to talk to Sabrina.
"Actually, I studied financial management at Entrepae University. When I graduated, I started working at a bank, where I worked as a teller. However, I found the job boring and quit soon after. I started my own logistics company and have been working on it till now."
Sabrina found something amiss as she listened. If her memory served her right, Marcus had claimed to be an heir to a vast fortune.
"Didn't you say you're an heir? Also, your family's logistics company is doing pretty well. Why did you look for a job at a bank?" she asked.
The car fell into silence, with Victor focusing on driving, and Marcus struggling to come up with an explanation for the fabrication he had made earlier.
"Oh, well, you see..." Marcus began to think of an excuse while stammering.
While he was figuring out an excuse, Sabrina noticed Ada on the sidewalk. She was locked in an ambiguous struggle with a man.
Sabrina immediately asked Victor to stop the car and rushed over to help Ada.
She pushing the man away, positioned herself between Ada and the man, and glared at the man vigilantly.
Victor and Marcus got out of the car and stood on both sides of Sabrina, just like her bodyguard.
Ada seemed nervous.
"Sabrina, he's just lost and took the wrong road. He was asking for directions. No need to be so tense," the man said.
Sabrina didn't turn around; it was obvious that this guy wasn't seeking directions. He was obviously here to look for trouble.
"Don't worry; we're here with you. If he's bothering you, we'll help."
Ada clenched her teeth. She didn't need Sabrina's help.
"I'm fine. Really. I just got a little impatient, and we almost fought, but everything's fine now," Ada replied.
The man who had been pushed away by Sabrina didn't say anything further. He shot Ada a look, looked at the other three, then turned away to leave.
