Chapter 173 Defending Her

Under normal circumstances, Curtis might not have reacted strongly. However, due to the recent tensions, upon hearing those words, Curtis reached out and pulled Sabrina into his embrace. "Is that strange? We're married; having a good marriage and relationship is just natural," Curtis said. "You have a point, but in today's world, not all married couples are like you. Even some with good relationships sometimes end in divorce. Some argue frequently, yet their bond grows stronger. You two seem good together, but there's a stiffness about you," observed Winnie. Despite Curtis's protective stance towards Sabrina, it was evident Sabrina felt somewhat uncomfortable with such contact, as if they hadn't been that intimate as a couple before. Her reaction did not escape Winnie's observation. Sabrina felt uneasy hearing her words. What did Winnie mean by saying that? Did their relationship require an outsider's comments? Did they need to explain anything between them to Winnie? Sabrina retorted, "Our relationship isn't something you need to concern yourself with. We're just not used to being this intimate in front of others. However, some things shouldn't be spoken carelessly," Sabrina replied, referring to Winnie's previous action of spreading malicious gossip about her that had caused her trouble. If it weren't for Finnick's sake, Sabrina wouldn't have let it slide. If Winnie continued to provoke her, Sabrina wouldn't let it slide again. Seeing Winnie about to say something more, Finnick couldn't contain himself anymore and intervened. "That's enough! What's their business to you? I didn't call you out for what you did last time, but you should've learned your lesson. Now, you're targeting them again? Do you have nothing else to do?" Finnick's words were unusually firm. In all their years of acquaintance, nobody had ever seen Finnick angry or speak in such a manner. It was evident that Winnie's words and actions had truly infuriated him. "What do you mean?" Winnie became even more displeased. She believed everything she did was for Finnick but why didn't he take her efforts seriously? Sabrina shivered, not expecting such a strong reaction from Finnick. She felt Curtis's hold on her shoulder tightened to provide her some comfort. "I'm fine." Sabrina nodded. Everyone looked at Finnick, expecting him to say more. Instead, he simply stood up and walked away without a word or farewell. His distress was evident. Winnie, upon seeing Finnick leaving, grew restless. She stood up, intending to follow him but then something struck her. She turned back toward Sabrina with an intense, menacing gaze. "Since you're married, keep your distance from him. He's mine. Whatever happened between you before, if you dare hurt him now, I won't let you off!" Winnie declared fiercely. Sabrina, with a bewildered look, responded, "If I'm not mistaken, weren't you the one who hurt him just now? Your words triggered his anger. If you hadn't said those things, he wouldn't have been this angry. You're the one out of line here, and I've let it go for his sake. How dare you lash out at me now?" Curtis also chimed in, "I'm not sure about your feelings for him, but harming someone for the sake of another, that's quite interesting. If this is your approach, I doubt you can continue in this job. A lawyer choosing to harm others to serve their own interests doesn't sound like a good lawyer to me." As the top boss in the company, Curtis's words were akin to royal decrees. Although his real identity was concealed from Sabrina, it didn't mean Victor wouldn't stand by Curtis's side on this statement. "I was wondering why you let that issue with Winnie slide, especially after what happened to Sabrina and you last time. Now it makes sense. Finnick is a decent guy, and good at his job. But some other people can be very difficult. I'll speak to HR about who's fit to stay in the company. We can't afford troublemakers, especially those we've invested heavily in hiring," Victor added, aligning his words with Curtis's. Winnie gritted her teeth, knowing she couldn't afford to offend these two at this moment; otherwise, her job would be in jeopardy. "Sabrina, you better watch out. I'm telling you, repercussions will fall on you. You've caused enough trouble for me today, and karma is a b*tch. It'll come back and bite you in the future!" With those words, Winnie left to chase after Finnick. Curtis retracted his hand and handed two skewers to Sabrina. But she had lost her appetite, taking only a few bites before putting it down. Victor's gaze alternated between the two. Curtis's recent change was quite significant. His defense of Sabrina indicated a deeper sentiment toward her. Regardless of whatever reasons tha led them to marry initially, their relationship was evolving, which was a good thing. Seeing his best friend doing well made Victor genuinely happy. Unbeknownst to him, in Sabrina's heart, both Curtis and Victor were already an item. That's why she could remain so composed and calm when facing Curtis.
