Chapter 174 A Changed Man
After having supper, they all went their separate ways. Once home, Victor couldn't wait to send a message in the group chat.
Considering that Marcus was probably still busy tonight, Victor didn't expect him to see these messages. His intention was primarily for Curtis, hoping Curtis would confront his own feelings.
However, right after he shared tonight's events, Marcus unexpectedly replied instantly.
Marcus: [You guys had such an eventful night! How could you not invite me? Wow! Meeting and eating with a love rival huh? Did they end up fighting? With Curtis's assertiveness and his way with words, that lawyer probably did not have a pleasant time.]
Victor: [Wait, aren't you enjoying your second round now? How come you're free to reply? But, anyway, you should've seen the look on that lawyer's face when Curtis invited them out for supper!]
The conversation then diverted from Curtis, and Winnie became the central focus. If it hadn't been for the Curtis's strong protective stance of Sabrina, Winnie might not have been that upset. Perhaps she could have endured it and finishing the late-night meal without making a fuss.
In summary, what happened today was quite intriguing. Even Marcus couldn't resist commenting twice, repeatedly saying how it would have been better if he had been there too. Both of them were chatting enthusiastically in the group chat, and Curtis's phone kept buzzing.
Already in a bad mood earlier, now handling work while observing their conversation irritated Curtis. He knew being the boss meant heavier responsibilities, but weren't these two going too far?
He couldn't take it anymore. Watching them shamelessly discussing him, even saying that he had changed drastically, becoming a completely different person from before, was something Curtis couldn't accept. How could he have changed so much? How could they talk as if his past self was no longer existent?
Marcus: [But seriously, Curtis has been quite different ever since he got together with Sabrina. He used to be so unapproachable.]
Victor: [You should've seen how he stood up for Sabrina today! In the past, if he saw Sabrina scared, he'd probably roll his eyes and complain about her being timid. Yet, now, he's capable of consoling her! Seriously! If only you had seen it!]
As they talked about recent incidents and bringing up more examples, Curtis held onto his phone. Initially, he wanted to refute their claims. However, as he read through their messages, a bewildered expression surfaced on his face.
Had he truly changed?
Just then, Daniel knocked on his door.
Both Daniel and Parker were aware that Curtis and Sabrina had attended a party that night. Upon their return from the party, both elders noticed the grim mood, especially with Curtis. His sullen demeanor suggested someone had upset him.
Sabrina's distress wasn't as obvious, but she, too, looked miserable.
"Grandpa, it's so late. Why are you still up?"
Daniel sat before Curtis, noticing he was working on his phone, frowning deeply.
"I came to check on you. Didn't we agree not to stay up late working? And didn't you attend Marcus's bachelor party today? Why the long face?" Daniel asked.
Curtis remained silent for a while, unsure of what to say.
Everyone could see that Delores had no interest in Marcus. In this marriage, Marcus was the only one excited. This observation made Curtis uncomfortable. While he felt a little sad for his friend, he was also thinking about himself in the process.
Whether it was Marcus or himself, their marriages were quite similar. Initially, Curtis didn't react much to this, but now, upon further reflection, it made him extremely uneasy.
"Grandpa, do you think I've changed a lot recently?"
Daniel was surprised to hear this from his grandson. "I thought you'd never notice. Indeed, you've changed a lot from before."
"People never care about what others think. They're only concerned if they can achieve what they aim for. But now, you're more concerned about the process. Besides, the way you and Sabrina interact has changed. Initially, it was awkward between you two, but now things are getting better. Your attitude at home has softened; you don't treat it like a temporary shelter anymore."
Previously, Curtis was akin to a robot, but his transformation brought joy to everyone's hearts. Curtis himself hadn't felt this change to be so drastic, but everyone's remarks suggested otherwise.
"Alright, let's not dwell on this. Get some rest. Anyway, I have high hopes for you two. You've both been through so much before, and now being able to gradually let go of those past issues and and step into each other's hearts is truly great."
Hearing Daniel's words, Curtis nodded slightly. He genuinely felt content with his current life. He was slowly accepting a lifestyle he had never experienced before. Every day seemed better than the last.
"I understand. You should get some rest too. I'll finish up this document and head to bed," Curtis replied.
With nothing more to add, Daniel nodded and left. After all, he had only come to uplift Curtis's spirits, but since Curtis had already found clarity within himself, there wasn't much left to do.
