Chapter 170 Love Makes One Irrational
Before marrying Curtis, Sabrina had pondered numerous possibilities about marriage, but never expected that her own marriage would be a transactional affair.
As they gathered today, most were Marcus's close friends.
Marcus was in high spirits, orchestrating the atmosphere with drinks and songs, while Curtis, unable to partake in drinking, engaged in card games on the sidelines.
Delores, on the other hand, didn't invite her own friends and found herself sitting awkwardly with Sabrina, both unsure what to talk about. Their relationship was casual, and suddenly conversing amidst the crowd felt out of place.
"I don't know if Curtis mentioned this to you, but I had a relationship back when I was studying abroad. They all thought I was emotionally scarred after that because I came back looking all forlorn and lost. But love isn't always what it seems. It might not change your life significantly if you don't have it, but once you do, you want it to last," Delores shared unexpectedly.
Delores's words caught Sabrina off guard, noticing Delores hadn't been drinking alcohol, she was uncertain how to respond. Maybe emotions had reached a point where drinking wasn't necessary, prompting her to speak out.
"You know, Sabrina, love is incredibly selfish. Once it dominates your mind, you become incredibly irrational."
Someone like Delores who was accustomed to approaching things with rationality, almost never allow themselves to become irrational or unreasonable.
"I am a highly rational person. So, I've never experienced what it's like to do things at any cost for love. I don't know what you think about the marriage between Marcus and me. But I believe you shouldn't be like me. Between us, there are various aristocratic concerns. Just wanting a divorce is impossible. However, it's different for you. If you want a divorce or a different life, it's entirely possible," Delores continued.
These words unsettled Sabrina. Regardless of the nature of her relationship with Curtis, she hadn't considered divorce until now.
"Never mind, I shouldn't have mentioned these things. I can see that your place in a man's heart is significantly different. It's better to advise you to live well with him rather than saying these things," Delores commented.
Delores had accompanied Marcus to get their marriage certificate today, which likely caused her emotional turmoil. Sabrina felt Delores said more than she should have, surprising herself.
"Whatever the choice, as long as you don't regret your decision, it's right," Sabrina said as she watched Delores finish her juice and about to reach for alcohol.
Delores looked puzzled at Sabrina's sudden statement. Sabrina continued, "Even though I don't know why you think there are problems between Curtis and me, I believe we get along fine. I agreed to the marriage, and I'm prepared for watever outcome. If I can't accept what's coming, I wouldn't have agreed in the first place. I wanted to let you know that."
Had she been so against this marriage from the start? Then why agree? If she was uncomfortable, why cause discomfort for everyone else? Wouldn't it have been better not to begin anything at all?
"Even if you later realize your marriage doesn't align with your expectations and even if you suffer through it, won't you regret your decision?" Delores' gaze fixed on Sabrina, curious about her thoughts.
Sabrina realized her current life was not how she had initially envisioned her marriage to be. Moreover, Curtis wasn't even attracted to women. Sabrina felt more aggrieved as she thought about it.
From the beginning, this marriage had been completely different from what she anticipated. However, she had agreed then. She could have disagreed at that time, so why complain now? If complaining could change things, why were so many people still upset and dissatisfied?
"When I married him, I had already considered these things happening. So, even if you say these things, I am prepared to accept whatever comes next," Sabrina concluded.
All things considered, could anything be worse than it was now?
For the next while, Delores fell silent, downing drink after drink. Sabrina watched, feeling apprehensive. She wanted to say something to comfort her, but considering Delores's current mood, she held back.
After all, what use was advice? They were already married. Curtis hoped they wouldn't easily divorce, after all, there was a lot between them. Therefore, the duration of their marriage depended on whether they could communicate, particularly whether Delores could come to terms with the marriage.
As they approached midnight, the party drew to a close. Everyone considered continuing, but Marcus pointed out they all had work the next day, signaling the end of the gathering.
It was clear that it was Delores who needed to work the next day. Marcus didn't want to delay her, hence the rush to send them off.
As Sabrina and Curtis headed toward their car, they noticed two people arguing in front of their vehicle, blocking their way. They were forced to halt in their tracks.
