Chapter 169 Some Sort of Reminder
Upon hearing Curtis' words, Sabrina paused, contemplating Curtis attending the bachelor party in his current state. Wasn't that asking for trouble?
However, Sabrina certainly couldn't stop Curtis. After all, this was Marcus's wedding, and their relationships were so close. If Curtis could manage to make it, he would, but perhaps Sabrina needed to keep a closer eye on the guest list.
She absolutely couldn't let him drink too much. After all, it wouldn't be a good idea to have him drink excessively. Most importantly, Sabrina was worried that after drinking too much, Curtis might lose his filter and blurt out things he shouldn't. That would make things even worse.
"All right. Make sure you don't drink too much tomorrow. It's for the best. You have to keep yourself in check," Sabrina cautioned. Curtis nodded, acknowledging his less than ideal situation.
After discussing this matter, they settled in for the night.
The following day's work didn't present significant issues. However, Sabrina felt a growing sense of dissatisfaction. She couldn't fathom why others were given the opportunity to earn more while she was stuck with meager wages and so much more work.
She needed to survive, especially considering the responsibility of caring for sick family members. If her salary remained as it was, she would have to rely on Curtis, and that wasn't a sustainable option.
Therefore, Sabrina's work pace slowed considerably. Despite Eric's silent resentment about her efficiency, he refrained from vocalizing it. He intentionally withheld some of Sabrina's projects to earn more for himself. Consequently, while Sabrina's work pace lagged, given these circumstances, Eric found it difficult to speak up.
As the workday concluded, Sabrina quickly gathered her belongings and prepared to head off to the bachelor party.
Everyone else had a project or two in their hands, except for Sabrina. Sometimes, her colleagues would subtly boast about it in front of her, but they were all careful not to overdo it.
Because who could be certain that someday they wouldn't need help from their colleague? Besides, Sabrina was initially transferred from the administrative department to the development department by Eric.
Even though no one knew the specifics of her experiences, the fact that she transitioned from admin to development hinted at Sabrina's impressive capabilities.
"I'm so jealous! She's going home the earliest again today. I've got other things to deal with. My dog's been sick, and I've been wanting to take him to the vet, but I just can't find the time," lamented a colleague.
"Tell me about it. My house is a mess, waiting for me to tidy up, but I've been too busy to spare a moment," shared another.
Everyone was exchanging thoughts about their work situations. They all envied how Sabrina could leave work so easily.
After leaving the company, Sabrina was oblivious to what her colleagues were discussing. However, she sneezed several times upon leaving. She could guess that her early departure might have made her colleagues a bit uncomfortable.
However, Sabrina paid no mind. She had already completed most of her assigned tasks. If Eric kept targeting her like this, he might need to explain himself to the higher-ups.
Sabrina was the first to arrive at the venue. She spotted Delores working and Marcus idly observing her. Delores was engrossed in her work, paying no mind to who was watching her. It wasn't until Sabrina had been seated for a while that they noticed her presence.
"Sorry, didn't know you ended work so early. Why didn't you come with Curtis and Victor? He insisted on changing outfits before coming to pick me up," Marcus remarked.
Sabrina felt speechless at Marcus' words. "Thank you for noticing me amidst your busy schedule."
Marcus chuckled and gestured for Sabrina to sit beside Delores. Sabrina greeted her but didn't know what else to say. They weren't that close yet. Their relationship was casual at best.
Just as Sabrina settled down, Delores packed up her belongings. When their eyes met, Sabrina managed to awkwardly greet Delores. "Congratulations, you're getting married soon."
Delores nodded, somewhat unhappily. Seeing her expression, Sabrina was at a loss for words in that moment.
"Don't be like me," Delores suddenly said, leaving Sabrina perplexed by her cryptic statement.
"What?" Sabrina was confused, unsure how to interpret Delores' abrupt statement.
Delores looked at Sabrina earnestly. Marcus was preoccupied, probably asking Curtis when they would arrive, oblivious to their conversation.
Delores repeated, "I said, don't be like me."
It wasn't just an offhand comment from Delores; it seemed like a personal reminder to herself.
Sabrina, after a brief moment of confusion, suddenly realized something. Her expression tightened, but she bit her lip and remained silent.
