Chapter 167 Marriage
Curtis spent a sleepless night, troubled by Sabrina's misconceptions about his sexual orientation.
He had wondered why, despite sharing a bed, Sabrina treated him with such indifference, almost like he was just an object. Now, he finally knew — she saw them as sisters, where even physical closeness would not imply anything more.
The next morning, Sabrina seemed well-rested, while Curtis on the other hand, looked the opposite. The family did not feel that anything was amiss. They naturally assumed Curtis's bad mood was due to discomfort from his injuries. They not realize it stemmed from being suspected of liking men.
"You're injured. Just hand over any work you have for now and take it easy. Don't push yourself so hard. Your health is important, and if you wear yourself out, what good is all that money you're making, huh?" Daniel advised Curtis, concerned for his well-being.
Knowing Curtis's passion for work, he expected him to try to soldier on despite his injury. However, to his surprise, Curtis agreed, showing a rare willingness to take a break and recover at home.
"I understand. I'll stay home for a few days to recuperate," Curtis announced.
After Curtis said this, Daniel felt reassured by Curtis' commitment to his health. He knew Curtis well enough to realize that he typically would not take time off for minor injuries. This change, although unexpected, was a positive one.
"Alright, I'm off to work." Sabrina rushed off to work after finishing breakfast.
Although Curtis had decided to stay home, he was not one to sit idle. He busied himself with manageable tasks he could handle in the kitchen and called Marcus to discuss the misunderstanding Sabrina had about his sexuality.
When Marcus heard what Curtis had to say, he paused for a moment and then burst into laughter.
"Are you serious? You're telling me that Sabrina thinks you're into men because of something I said? That explains those odd looks she's been giving you and Victor. She probably thinks you two are an item!" Marcus laughed heartily, and it was because of their close friendship that he could make jokes at Curtis' expense.
Curtis, annoyed rather than amused, was frustrated by the misinterpretation. "What did you tell her exactly? Why does she have such a misunderstanding?"
Marcus pondered, trying to recall any comments he might have made that led to such a mix-up, but nothing came to mind that could explain Sabrina's significant misunderstanding.
"Hmm… It might have something to do with the last time Victor had a breakup. He was in tears and clinging to you, remember? I guess Sabrina might have suspected something wasn't quite innocent between you and Victor back then. To put it plainly, isn't this all Victor's fault? If he had controlled himself a bit when he was drunk that day, none of these things would have happened now."
Marcus laughed heartily, but Curtis looked more troubled than amused. He found no humor in the situation and his frustration was mounting.
"Relax, don't worry too much about this You're married, and you can definitely show Sabrina your true preferences. You're interested in women, so don't worry about it. Just communicate with her once you're feeling better. You know, 'communicate,' as they say." Marcus was being quite subtle, and Curtis rubbed his temples in annoyance. He could not help but grasp the implication of Marcus' words, though he wished he did not.
"Got it, I'll sort it out. Also, ask Victor to limit his interactions with Sabrina when there's nothing important. Maybe he should clarify to her that there's nothing going on between us."
"Forget it. At this point, if you ask Victor to explain, Sabrina will only become more convinced that something fishy is going on between you two. She might not doubt Victor, but she'll definitely doubt you. Having Victor explain now would only make things worse." Marcus cautioned. He recommended waiting for a more opportune moment to address the issue.
"By the way, I've got some news for you guys. I'm marrying Delores," Marcus shared, a note of excitement in his voice.
Despite their recent arguments, Curtis was surprised that Marcus and Delores were planning to get married so quickly. He wanted to advise Marcus that a marriage without love could lead to problems. However, he held back his concerns, seeing Marcus's enthusiasm and deciding to choose a more appropriate time for that discussion.
"Are you guys registering soon?"
"Yes, we're going to register our marriage tomorrow." Marcus said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. He had a long-standing love for Delores and was elated to formalize their relationship.
However, in his excitement, Marcus seemed to overlook Delores' feelings in this matter. He appeared to be under the impression that his love would be enough to overcome any challenges.
"Congratulations, Marcus, that's great news. But don't forget, a successful marriage requires both partners to be equally committed. If one stays in the same place while the other moves ahead, it can lead to problems in your marriage. Make sure you and Delores are on the same page about this."
