Chapter 165 A Genuine Bond

While Sabrina and Marcus chatted, Curtis's medical tests neared completion. A few reports were delayed until the next day, and although Curtis had the influence to hasten the process, he refrained from doing so. He wanted to keep a low profile in Sabrina's presence and keep his identity concealed. Given the minor nature of his injuries, Curtis saw no harm in waiting a bit longer. "Looks like we'll get some reports only by tomorrow. When I'm back to work tomorrow, I'll have someone come by to collect them. For now, Curtis, take a couple of days off to rest at home," Victor suggested. Victor's decision was practical, considering Curtis was in no state to work efficiently. Besides, any attempt by Curtis to push through would likely end with Victor handling the extra workload. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. Victor found it more convenient to have Curtis rest at home rather than having him lounging around the office and potentially being a source of aggravation during work hours. Curtis understood Victor’s underlying concern and agreed to the break. It was a good opportunity to rest and deal with the Ada situation, which had been a persistent annoyance in their lives. However, among the four of them, only Sabrina had a different perspective as she was unaware of the full dynamics of their relationship. Upon hearing Victor's statement and observing Curtis's reaction, she could not help but sigh. "I can't believe it, Victor. You're such a good leader, and you're even taking care of Curtis's work. But doesn't this blur the lines of your boss-employee relationship? What if Curtis decides he doesn't want to work one day and dumps all his tasks on you? Wouldn't it be a bit unfair for you as the boss?" From her perspective, Sabrina felt that Victor must be quite aggrieved in this situation. Despite being the boss of the company, she observed that Curtis seemed to call the shots, and occasionally, he even seemed to step on Victor's toes. She felt that such a dynamic would be hard for any boss to accept. Caught off-guard by Sabrina's observation, Victor quickly composed himself, maintaining the pretense of Curtis being his subordinate. "We've known each other for so many years. And besides, I don't rely solely on Curtis' assistance. He is more than capable, and his responsibilities differ from mine. You don't need to worry too much," Victor explained, skillfully steering the conversation away from any potential suspicions. Upon hearing his words, Sabrina chose not to delve deeper into Victor's explanation. However... "Honestly, we've known each other for a long time, yet you two seem so much closer. You make me feel like I'm stuck in the middle like of an awkward place!" Marcus remarked with a hint of jest. Their long-standing friendship made such candid exchanges common. But Sabrina's interpretation was different. If even Marcus had perceived a peculiar closeness between Victor and Curtis, they were not being discreet about it. Sabrina concluded that it was Curtis who was more obvious in his actions. A sense of unease began to grow in Sabrina. If they continued in this manner, she feared Marcus might eventually pick up on the true nature of Curtis's feelings for Victor. She thought to herself, 'If Victor feels the same way as Curtis, then this situation could be resolved easily. But I recall Victor being interested in women. That's why he will never reciprocate Curtis's feelings.' With these thoughts swirling in Sabrina's mind, she found herself drifting away from the ongoing conversation. Back at the villa, the family was taken aback to see Curtis's bandaged hand and head. They were all shocked when they heard about the accident. Visibly annoyed, Parker turned to Barry. "Look at the mess you've dragged us into. Curtis is injured all because you brought her into our lives. How do you plan to fix this?" Parker's direct confrontation left Barry feeling both guilty and trapped, having not anticipated the situation to escalate to this extent. "I've been out of touch with her for a while now, and she even scammed me. I'm dealing with my own mess, so how can I deal with Curtis's situation? Besides, it's not like Curtis's accident is directly our fault. Grandpa, don't just focus on Curtis. I have my own problems too, and it's not easy for me right now." "I have no words for you. You've created a mess and now you've dragged the entire family into it. If you can't sort this out, don't bother coming home. All you do is live off Sabrina's money and stay in her house. You really have no shame." As their grandfather, Parker knew just what to say to deeply affect Barry. Barry did feel embarrassed, but he was helpless. His injury was severe, and it would take 100 days for his bones and muscles to recover. He was in no condition to work at the moment. "Grandpa, can you please stop being so critical of me? I'm injured, after all. I promise to repay Sabrina's kindness once I'm better. You don't have to worry about my relationship with her." Indeed, Barry genuinely valued his sister and intended to repay her generosity, with interest. There was no doubt about this. "Fine, since you put it that way, I'll take your word for it. But, we need to address Ada's situation urgently. Her presence and knack of causing constant problems isn't acceptable." Anything left unresolved for too long would be detrimental to them, whether it was Curtis' injury or the previous incident where they were scammed out of money. They needed to resolve these issues as soon as possible to minimize any further harm.
