Chapter 164 Tenderness

Given Sabrina and Curtis's unanimous stance, the police began the formalities of legal proceedings. The atmosphere was tense, yet the couple maintained their composure, starkly contrasting with Ada's evident distress. Her anxiety was partly justified, given that some aspects of the incident were accidental. However, the couple's serious approach could potentially escalate the situation, a prospect that terrified Ada. Ada briefly contemplated pleading for mercy from Sabrina, but she quickly realized the futility of her efforts. Sabrina's cold attitude left no room for negotiation or forgiveness. Any attempt at reconciliation would be pointless and would likely only exacerbate Sabrina's negative perception of her. * After leaving the police station, Sabrina escorted Curtis to the hospital for a comprehensive medical evaluation. Despite Curtis' injuries appearing minor, Sabrina was insistent on a full check-up, to which Curtis resignedly agreed. She half-jokingly warned him that any lack of cooperation would result in informing Daniel about the incident. The entire family being aware of his accident would undoubtedly cause worry, especially considering Parker's already mixed feelings about him. If this incident worsened those reservations, Curtis could not help but feel a headache coming on. In the past, Curtis would not have cared about what others thought of him. He was used to being independent and doing things his way, so he did not pay much attention to others' opinions. However, he found himself increasingly mindful of his family's perceptions since they began living together. This change happened subtly, and by the time Curtis noticed it, there was no turning back. Curtis felt that this change was strangely rewarding as it added depth to his experience of everyday life. At the hospital, Victor and Marcus arrived while Curtis was still being examined. Victor, upon examining Curtis's earlier medical reports, furrowed his brow in concern. It was an action that sent Sabrina into a state of concern. "Why aren't you saying anything? Your reaction is making me worry. Is it serious with Curtis? If it is, I'll confront Ada myself," Sabrina said, growing more anxious as she spoke. Victor then cracked a reassuring smile and relieved Sabrina, "No, it's nothing serious. It's just a minor injury. There's a slight variation in the data compared to his previous check-up, but it's within a normal range. He'll be fine." Sabrina let out a sigh of relief upon hearing Victor's words. As long as it was not something serious, she was relieved. "Are there any more tests for Curtis? I’ll go check on him. You both stay here. And Sabrina, no wandering off. Today's incident probably frightened you enough. Just stay here and I'll take care of the rest." Victor stepped in to handle the rest of the hospital formalities, and Sabrina quietly agreed. She settled into her seat, lost in thought over the day's stressful events. "Victor's like a completely different person around Curtis, isn’t he? Look at him, all servile and gentle. I don't even know what to say," Marcus remarked with a hint of sarcasm, unaware of how his words affected Sabrina. There were times when Sabrina would forget about the unique relationship Victor and Curtis had, and she would forget that Curtis harbored feelings for Victor. Marcus's remark drew her attention to the evident warmth in Victor's demeanor toward Curtis, and she could not help but notice Curtis's attitude toward Victor had softened somewhat. Upon their return, Curtis was less warm with Sabrina than with Victor, something she understood to a degree. People naturally gravitated toward showing their best side to someone they care for. Although Curtis's behavior did not surprise Sabrina, for some reason, Sabrina felt somewhat uneasy looking at the scene before her. "By the way, what really happened today? Was it truly an accident or something more?" Marcus inquired, eager for clarity as he and Victor had arrived amidst the confusion. Sabrina could not say for sure whether it was intentional or an accident, but she relayed the details she had gathered from the police. "I can't bring myself to trust Ada after everything, so we're opting for the legal route. But whether it was accidental or deliberate, I'm determined not to let her off the hook this time." Sabrina's long-standing grievances against Ada had not been addressed until now. She certainly didn't plan to let this opportunity slip away. Marcus exhaled softly upon hearing Sabrina's explanation, surprised by the turn of events. "So it's her again, huh? How is she still causing trouble? I thought you would have dealt with her by now." Hearing Marcus's somewhat sarcastic remark, Sabrina could not help but chuckle. "We don't have any concrete evidence in hand. It's just suspicion. The way you put it, it sounds like you expect us to eliminate her," she said. She wondered how he could make it sound so casual. "Come on, I'm just kidding. I'm a good guy. It was just a passing comment. It's frustrating to have to deal with someone like her constantly. But now, since we're taking the legal approach, it's time for a thorough investigation on Ada. Who knows, maybe we'll uncover more useful information to finally get rid of her for good," Marcus said with a hint of optimism. Sabrina shared the same sentiment. She saw this as an opportunity to delve deeper into Ada's actions. Any new revelations could be crucial in potentially resolving a long-standing source of distress in their lives.
