Chapter 163 Not You Again!
Sabrina anxiously followed the police to review the road surveillance footage. The video revealed that Curtis's speed on the highway was reasonable, not unusually fast. Normally, such a speed would not result in an accident, yet accidents were often unpredictable.
As Curtis was about to exit the highway, another vehicle, moving erratically and at an alarming speed, suddenly veered towards him. It wasn't clear whether it was due to an inexperienced driver or a mechanical fault.
Despite Curtis' quick reaction to swerve away, the other car seemed hell-bent on colliding with him. The crash that followed threw Curtis' car off the road, startling nearby pedestrians and triggering the airbags. Curtis hit his head on the airbag, causing a gash and bleeding, though he sustained no severe injuries.
"The injury is minor, caused by the airbag's impact and the sudden stop," the police officer clarified. "No fractures. We're investigating the other driver and examining the vehicles."
The police had noted the damaged condition of Curtis's car, suspecting vehicular issues. However, detailed information about the inspection was yet to be released.
Relieved that the crash was not an intentional attack on Curtis, Sabrina was nonetheless enraged by his injury.
"And the other driver?" she asked, puzzled as she didn't see the other driver anywhere.
"The other driver suffered more serious injuries and is receiving treatment. Please wait outside, and then you two can discuss how to settle this matter later," the officer suggested.
Sabrina understood that resolving this privately would be ideal, as involving the police might complicate things. The resolution depended largely on the forthcoming negotiation between the parties involved.
Sabrina nodded and quickly returned to Curtis, examining him for any unseen injuries. She felt a wave of relief upon seeing only his bandaged head and a sling on his arm but remained adamant about a hospital visit for a thorough check-up.
"Hold on, we need to get you properly checked out at the hospital. A car accident is a serious matter, and an airbag doesn't guarantee you're unscathed."
Curtis nodded as he felt it was necessary to get checked to put his mind at ease.
After about half an hour, the other driver finally arrived. Much to Sabrina’s shock, it was Ada.
"Not you again!" Sabrina's shock turned to suspicion. If it had been anyone else, Sabrina might have considered it an accident. But with Ada involved, she suspected deliberate intent.
Ada's pitiful appearance failed to garner much sympathy from Sabrina. But some onlookers felt inclined to side with her, given her apparent worse condition.
"What's the meaning of this? You've already caused an accident with my brother, and now my husband? Are you trying to destroy my family?" Sabrina's accusation hinted at a deeper conflict, raising eyebrows among the onlookers.
"My brother was beaten up and involved in an accident because of you. He's still rehabilitating at home. I've been silent on the medical costs, and now you target my husband? You're a swindler! You’ve scammed us before, and now you want to hurt us? Officer, I'm not resolving this privately. I believe she did this deliberately!"
Ada, overwhelmed by Sabrina's outburst, looked helplessly at Curtis. Curtis, having investigated Ada, knew of her fraudulent past and shared Sabrina’s belief that this was no accident.
"This incident is truly just an accident. I didn't intend to crash into your husband!"
"Just an accident? I've seen the surveillance footage. Your car was swerving dangerously. Curtis had already swerved to avoid you, but your car still crashed into him. That doesn't look accidental. How do you explain that?" Sabrina did not care about what Ada was saying. In her eyes, Ada was a fraudster, a bad person. Anyone associated with Ada was unlikely to gain any benefits.
"Don't push it too far!" Ada responded, visibly shaken. She felt cornered, but the car accident was genuinely unplanned. Although it was an accident, Ada had intended to capitalize on the situation, but she didn't anticipate Sabrina's aggressive response.
Unable to reason with Sabrina, Ada turned to Curtis. His expression was icy. He knew Ada was a habitual offender, swindling money from many people and causing numerous families to suffer. So, this time, he was convinced this was not merely an accident, but a scheme orchestrated by Ada.
"I stand with my wife. We're not settling this quietly. We'll take legal action," Curtis stated firmly. Their solidarity suggested there was more to Ada's character than met the eye.
The officer interjected, "There could be a mechanical fault in Ada’s car, indicating an accidental cause. Are you sure you want to pursue legal action?"
The police sought to ensure both parties understood the full context, not to shield Ada.
"Absolutely!" they replied in unison, unwavering in their decision.
