Chapter 162 A Car Accident

Everyone heard Sabrina's remarks, but of course, no one said anything. Witnessing her departure alongside their heavy workload, an internal unease pervaded. Yet, they didn't want to end up like Sabrina. They could all see that Eric was deliberately assigning less important tasks to Sabrina, just to keep her occupied with trivial work. This way, she wouldn't have time for projects, and without projects, there would be no project bonuses. Consequently, her salary would remain just as it was. Sabrina was naturally angry because she hadn't expected Eric to target her so blatantly. She thought that with Curtis around, Eric would at least balance her workload. However, ever since the termination of the collaboration with the gaming studio, Eric had shifted all the blame onto her, unjustly shouldering her with the entire responsibility. Reflecting on this, Sabrina felt somewhat powerless. If Jacob hadn't interfered at the gaming studio, the project might have persisted. Nonetheless, it had dragged on for too long, and sooner or later, the management would catch on, prompting an investigation likely pointing towards Jacob. In other words, no matter who took on this task, its conclusion would likely lead to its demise. Sabrina felt overwhelmed and somewhat helpless. It was her first time managing a project, one that was supposed to secure project funding, but it now turned into such a predicament. Moreover, she had likely irked Eric today, despite him not explicitly naming her, his target was clear. Sabrina foresaw Eric's probable persistence in making things difficult for her starting tomorrow. Her workload would surge, and she couldn't see a viable solution continuing like this. She needed to overturn the situation. If she kept managing these tedious tasks, perhaps returning to the Administrative Department might be a better choice. Administrative work was less complex, and the salary was higher than in the Development Department. Why should she endure such grievances? Thinking about it, Sabrina felt extremely uncomfortable. Curtis had a meeting elsewhere in the afternoon, so he wasn't at the company. Sabrina was heading home alone today. After packing up her things, she decided to stop by the supermarket. She planned to buy some groceries today and cook a big meal to pamper herself. Besides, with many people at home, she couldn't leave all the responsibilities to them. In the midst of picking out ingredients at the supermarket, Sabrina's phone buzzed with an unfamiliar number. She hesitated before deciding to answer the call. "Hello, this is the police station calling. Are you Curtis's wife? Can you come over to the station?" Surprised by the call from the police station, Sabrina's eyes widened. Wasn't Curtis supposed to be at a meeting? She wasted no time, hailed a taxi, and swiftly made her way to the address provided by the police. Upon arriving at the station, she spotted Curtis sitting with a bandaged head and his left hand suspended in front of him. Despite Curtis wearing a black suit, the white shirt beneath was stained with blood. It was an alarming sight. Shocked, Sabrina hurried over to Curtis, anxiously assessing his condition. "Are you okay? What happened?" "It's nothing serious, just a minor accident," Curtis reassured her. "Nothing serious? You've been in an accident, and you're saying it's not serious?" Sabrina's concern turned into anger. She couldn't believe Curtis was downplaying the incident. Thankfully, this accident hadn't resulted in severe injuries. If it had, things could have been far worse. "Look at all the patients we already have at home. If we add one more, we might as well run a hospital. And you think a car accident is a minor matter?" Sabrina scolded Curtis sharply. Usually the one to reprimand others, Curtis felt a bit awkward being scolded by Sabrina, but he realized her anger was stemming from worry. He stayed silent, understanding her need to express her concern. "What exactly happened? Weren't you accompanied by a driver for your meeting?" Sabrina's anger persisted as she demanded an explanation. Seeing Sabrina's intense anger, Curtis decided not to hide anything from her. He hadn't expected Sabrina to be this upset, nor did he expect her to look so frightening when she was angry. She didn't even give him a chance to speak. Curtis nodded and began explaining the situation to Sabrina, "Initially, there was a driver with me, but on our way back, he had an urgent matter and left unexpectedly..." As a result, Curtis had to drive himself. He always prioritized safety while driving, but despite his cautiousness, he was unexpectedly involved in a collision. Upon hearing Curtis's explanation, Sabrina couldn't help but burst into laughter. "So, you mean to say that this incident actually has nothing much to do with you?" Curtis, somewhat feeling sorry for himself, felt that if he admitted the truth straightforwardly, Sabrina might stop scolding him. "Of course, it's not something I expected. I was driving carefully when suddenly another car appeared out of nowhere and collided with mine. Don't be alarmed by how I look right now; it's just that the airbag deployed, and I bumped my head. I'm fine, just looks worse than it is." Curtis rarely elaborated on incidents like this, but faced with Sabrina's stern expression, he felt compelled to provide a thorough explanation of everything that happened, from start to finish. As they conversed, the police didn't intervene. After Curtis finished narrating the incident, an officer approached Sabrina, addressing her directly, "Your husband isn't at fault here. He's also a victim, and we have surveillance footage to confirm it."
