Chapter 646 It’s Too Obvious

Lindsey shook her head again. Her tone became more melancholy as she said, "No, my brother got someone to check my computer. There’s no trace of any hacking." When she finished, Arthur suddenly laughed. "If every hacker left a trace of their hacking, then they wouldn't have become such a headache for all the national intelligence services around the world, don’t you think?" Lindsey looked at Arthur with a slight surprise. "Are you saying that the other party hired high-level hackers?" "We can’t be sure yet." Arthur rubbed his finger on his chin. "I may need to get someone to take a look at your computer to be sure." That was easy enough, but Lindsey's computer was kept at the office as “evidence” for when the police were involved so that it could be used to convict Lindsey. "Wait a sec." Lindsey took out her phone. "I'll get my brother to bring it over." Arthur pondered for a moment and stopped Lindsey. "There’s no need to go to such trouble. You're drawing too much attention by asking him to bring it out." Seeing that Lindsey was just looking at him dumbfounded probably because she was confused, Arthur let out a low chuckle as he thought that Lindsey’s slow-wit was quite amusing. “Didn’t you say that you didn’t want anyone to find out?” Lindsey finally reacted to his words. Arthur continued, “I’ll bring my staff to Hemera as an investor. That way, I can openly check your personal belongings because you’re a 'suspect'. That’s reasonable, no?" He even winked at Lindsey after he said that. It was such a playboy move, but coming from Arthur, it did not seem offensive. Lindsey looked at him and was stunned for a moment before she quickly averted her gaze. "Right! That’ll be the best." "Great, then I'll go and investigate this case." Arthur pretended not to see the flash of panic on Lindsey's face and stood up. Arthur knew that he had done enough for today, and should stop before he scared her away, then all his efforts would go bust. Lindsey breathed a sigh of relief in her heart and got up to see him off. If Arthur continued to stay there and looked at her with that look on his face, Lindsey felt that she might just get him to cover up his face before speaking. Although Lindsey did not feel the slightest bit charmed by him, this would undoubtedly make the atmosphere between them even more awkward. Moreover, after what happened today, a certain thought suddenly popped up in Lindsey's mind. After Lindsey sent him away, she just collapsed on the sofa with her hands covering her face. The fact that she had only ever been attracted to Zayn in the past twenty years of her life did not mean that Lindsey was numb towards other people’s feelings for her. Arthur was really making it too obvious. ‘What the hell is this? It’s just so unbelievable!’ Lindsey rubbed her tired eyes and forced herself to get it together. She sent a message to Shaun and briefly recapped what she and Arthur had talked about and said in a soft voice, "Brother, spread out the news tonight, and call the police first thing tomorrow morning." Previously, Lindsey and Shaun had not thought of a countermeasure on how to get her out of this mess. They only wanted to lure out the culprit and were thinking of leaving the rest of the investigation to the police. It was a risk if the police could not find evidence to prove Lindsey's innocence. Since Arthur was now involved, things became more simple. Perhaps, they did not need to get the police involved either. After Mrs. Wendy saw that Arthur had left, she came out of the kitchen with a pot of fruit tea. Lindsey quickly got up to take the pot from Mrs. Wendy and held her arm. "I’m fine." Mrs. Wendy held her cane and waved her hand. "You don't have to walk me in and out. It's really not that serious and this thing is quite handy." Lindsey ignored her and helped her over to take a seat on the sofa. Only then did she take out the teacups and poured a cup of tea for herself and Mrs. Wendy respectively. "What's going on? Is there something going on at work?" Mrs. Wendy took the cup of tea, but she did not drink it and looked at Lindsey with a worried face. Lindsey did not want to bring home any work-related matters, nor did she want Mrs. Wendy to worry, so she said with an innocent expression on her face, "It's a small matter that will be solved soon. Don't worry." Mrs. Wendy nodded and said, “Don't make things tough for yourself. If you can't solve it, just quit and come home. You’re always so stressed out, so don’t put yourself through all this trouble.” Lindsey nodded obediently and agreed with this reasoning. Seeing her like this, Mrs. Wendy could not help but feel sorry for her. "You should go out more often like those youngsters. Go travel and meet new people! It'll be good for you." Lindsey laughed at her words. "Aunt Wendy, do you think that I'm still a little girl?" Mrs. Wendy’s tone was frank as she said, "Aren't you?" "I’m the mother of a six-year-old!" Lindsey said mockingly. She laughed again and leaned back to look at the intricate crystal chandelier on the ceiling. She felt so relaxed. "Look at your feet now, and you still want me to go out? I like our life now. When Dezi gets older, I'll just travel with you both!" As for Mrs. Wendy’s hint that Lindsey should go out and meet more people, Lindsey chose to ignore it. Sitting face to face with Mrs. Wendy with a pot of sweet fruit tea between them and the sun shining through the window, Lindsey's heart just felt at peace. Shaun only replied to Lindsey’s message briefly with two letters: OK. At night, Lindsey was scrolling through her phone looking at the Hemera employees group chat and a few local news sites. News of S.P. Corporation plagiarizing Hemera’s R&D was dominating the headlines. Lindsey smiled slightly and put her phone away, then fell asleep peacefully. The next day, Lindsey went to the Hemera office. After one night, this news had become the talk of the town. The look on the employees’ faces when they saw Lindsey was just as she expected. There was suspicion, disdain, contempt, and some even looked at her with pity. Lindsey did not take these to heart and went to her office, shutting all the whispers out the door. Even though Lindsey went to work, her computer had been confiscated, so she could not do much and only sat at her bare desk while she scrolled through the morning news one by one. It was no surprise that she saw the news she had hoped for. At around 9:00 am, Lindsey put on her jacket and put all her things into her bag. A few minutes later, there was a knock on her office door. Through the frosted glass door, Lindsey could see that the person outside was wearing dark clothes with a hat of the same color. Lindsey settled her mind, got up, and walked over to pull the door open. Two police officers were standing at the door. One of them saw Lindsey and flashed her police badge.
