Chapter 645 There’s No Loss
Although Lindsey was smiling, her eyes did not fluctuate. Her smile did not even move her cheekbones.
Arthur looked at her for a while and suddenly said, "I can help you."
His voice was gentle. When Lindsey heard him say this, she slowly put away the fake smile on her face, then turned to look at Arthur, who was sitting diagonally across from her. However, she was struck hard by that unreserved tenderness under his eyes.
‘What’s this look supposed to mean?’
Lindsey had never looked directly into Arthur's eyes before. She only knew that those light brown eyes had a bone-chilling indifference when they looked at people in askance, but she had never seen in them such warmth that could make one’s heart melt.
She only managed to take one glance before she averted her gaze. She did not know what to do with Arthur’s tender gaze, so she pretended not to have seen it.
Lindsey just stared blankly at the pattern on the table in front of her. "Why do you want to help me?"
Arthur wanted to say that he did not have a reason and just wanted to help her, but somehow, these words became, "You’re Aksel’s most important person." This implied that he chose to help Lindsey for the sake of Dezi.
Whether what he said was true or not, Lindsey felt relieved after hearing that and told herself that the look in his eyes earlier was just her illusion.
However, she also did not dare to look into his eyes again.
Lindsey regained her composure. She did not agree to let Arthur help her, nor was she happy about it. "Thanks, but I want to solve this by myself."
Shaun chose to believe in her and stood by her side. Lindsey accepted Shaun’s support openly, but Arthur was just a stranger to her.
She knew that although Shaun had temporarily helped her to resist the constant pressure of the board of directors and other senior executives, he could not just brush off this issue as this was a serious matter, especially since Evans Corporation had invested in this project.
Lindsey did not go into the office today, but she already knew what kind of frenzy the office was in. By tomorrow, the police would already be involved.
Looking at the current situation, Lindsey was the only suspect in this case, so she would probably be arrested to cooperate with the investigation. She was mentally prepared for this.
Arthur looked at Lindsey disapprovingly and was so exasperated at her tone that he laughed. “Why?”
Of course, Lindsey could not tell him that she and Shaun had already thought of a way to bait the real culprit.
She did not answer Arthur's question. Instead, she asked him, "If we let the R&D Department revise our product’s direction now or speed up the process and launch the product before S.P. Corporation, can our losses be reduced?"
"There’s no loss." There was a flash of smugness in Arthur's eyes, so fast that it seemed like an illusion.
Lindsey's eyes widened slightly. She was puzzled and had a hidden expectation in her eyes. "What do you mean by that? How can there be no loss?"
Arthur picked up the cup of tea again and took a sip. He seemed to like this bitter aftertaste. "You probably don’t know that this so-called core technology isn’t really our most advanced tech. Our R&D team is the best in this world and we kept our tech..."
There was a slight pause in Arthur’s voice as he tapped his slender fingers. "In our own secure database."
This was not a huge secret, but still a secret nonetheless. Arthur told Lindsey just like that and thought that as an employee of Hemera, Lindsey might even be upset. However, Lindsey’s eyes were just filled with amazement and even an unconscious adoration.
"Really?" Her emotions were unconcealed as she looked at Arthur.
This made the man across the table cough involuntarily, but he still managed to control the emotions that were surging in his heart. He nodded calmly. "Yes."
No wonder he offered to help her. As long as Arthur stood out to say that the missing documents were not their so-called “core technology”, then Lindsey's responsibility would not be so great.
‘But…’
"Have you told anyone about this?" Lindsey suddenly asked.
Arthur shook his head. "Never."
Lindsey's eyes lit up. "Then can you just keep it to yourself first?"
Her words were beyond Arthur's expectation, but he did not ask why and gently nodded. "Sure."
Arthur was so compliant with her requests that Lindsey felt a little embarrassed. She unconsciously looked at Arthur with sincerity and said, "Thank you."
After saying that, she was afraid that Arthur would misunderstand her and explained, "If I say that I didn’t leak out the company's secrets to others, will you believe me?"
Lindsey actually did not expect an answer from Arthur and only said this as an opener to what she wanted to say. However, as soon as Lindsey said that, Arthur nodded without hesitation. "Of course."
The words she wanted to say were interrupted, so she stopped and looked at Arthur. This time, a light emotion floated through her heart and she thanked him once more in a gentle tone. "Thank you."
"I didn't do it, but they traced the trail to my computer. Everyone thinks that I'm a crook." Lindsey shrugged her shoulders and did not look very concerned.
Arthur listened patiently as Lindsey went on.
After a pause, Lindsey's eyes gradually turned cold. "But I didn't do it. I know that someone wants to frame me, so I have to find a way to expose this person."
In fact, Lindsey and Shaun already guessed who this person was. Lindsey also did not believe that the other party would not leave any traces.
However, the project looked like it would sustain heavy losses and they wanted to make sure that they could still find this person while maximizing Hemera’s interests so that they could completely expose the culprit behind this, S.P. Corporation.
Originally, Lindsey was still thinking about how they should go about this, but now that she knew that the project was not impacted, Lindsey felt a lot more confident.
Arthur's face also turned glum.
As a boss, although Arthur had never experienced it himself, he had some understanding of malicious competition in the workplace. Sometimes, people would turn greedy and evil because of some small benefit.
This matter was known throughout the industry. Once the police arrive tomorrow, news of this would only spread like wildfire, but only a few people knew that S.P. Corporation was the mastermind behind this.
"Since you’re sure that you didn't do it, did anyone enter your office?" Arthur asked Lindsey.
Lindsey shook her head. When she found out that the documents were sent from her computer, Shaun had someone check the surveillance cameras. The surveillance footage was not destroyed, and it showed that no one had entered Lindsey’s office.
Moreover, Lindsey was always cautious and would lock her office door whenever she left, so no one would be able to sneak in.
"Then it can only be a hacker," Arthur said in a deep voice as his fingers rested on his chin.
