Chapter 641 Zayn Guggenheim Wouldn’t Want Her Even If She Paid Him
Lindsey left Hemera and did not defend herself in front of others, but Hemera was in a frenzy. The board of directors wanted to involve the police in this matter, but Shaun suppressed it.
In just one day, Lindsey’s alleged disclosure of Hemera’s R&D secrets spread rampantly throughout Atlantic City within the industry even though Shaun expressly forbade the company's employees not to spread this matter.
As the saying goes, good things often go unnoticed and bad things usually spread like wildfire. In just one afternoon, this matter spread uncontrollably through the business circle in Atlantic City.
However, the specifics of this matter like who Lindsey leaked Hemera's secrets to was not known to everyone. For a while, there were many different speculations, and many guessed that Lindsey leaked it to Denarius that was owned by Zayn Guggenheim.
In just a few hours, this gossip was rampant and spread to Zayn’s ears.
When Zayn heard this, he sneered and had a contemptuous and sarcastic look on his face. "Me plagiarizing from Hemera? Do I look like someone who needs to rely on a woman to steal for me?"
Zayn's denial made this matter even more intriguing. Many people's expressions carried a little disdain when they talked about Lindsey. "Even if she paid Zayn Guggenheim, he wouldn’t even want her."
They were speaking as if they were Zayn Guggenheim.
In fact, after hearing Quentin's report, Zayn only frowned slightly and said one word, "Nonsense."
He did not say anything else.
Quentin truly admired how creative these people were. Before he left Zayn’s office, he clearly saw Zayn taking out his phone looking like he wanted to make a call.
However, this call was not made in the end because Zayn had a visitor.
"Mr. Guggenheim, this is a list of your donations to the orphanage over the years. Thanks to you and some charitable people, our orphanage was able to help more homeless children. This time, I came here to tell you that the orphanage will be demolished in the next few days."
The middle-aged man with slightly white sideburns sat in front of Zayn. He wore a worn-out jacket and looked serious, but his eyes were warm and kind.
Hearing his words, Zayn froze for a moment because he did not expect such news. He was silent for a long time before he asked, "Why do you want to tear it down?"
The dean of the orphanage then realized that his words might have caused a misunderstanding and added, "We’re tearing it down to build a new orphanage on the original site. It’ll be bigger with more facilities, so the children can live in a better condition."
The dean's eyes were vaguely hopeful and he looked very kind.
Demolished to be built again. This was when Zayn realized that the orphanage had been in existence for more than thirty years. Its environment and architectural style had been left far behind compared to news buildings in the city.
What seemed familiar and dear to Zayn, might just be a stain on the city's glory to others. Tearing it down and rebuilding an orphanage was a great thing for many of the displaced children.
Zayn donated a lot of money and things over the years. He just did not think about sponsoring a new building and did not think about refurbishing the orphanage like other buildings in this city because it did not mean anything to him.
The dean was still rambling on. "We actually applied for this back in 2000. Although you and the community have been donating to our orphanage, it’ll be better for the kids and teachers to stay in a nicer dorm. The government finally approved our application at the beginning of this year and will even fund our construction. It’s just great news!"
The dean laughed as he said this and was truly happy.
Zayn looked at his smile. Although he was not the same dean as the time Zayn was in the orphanage, the dean was still as benevolent and kind as the previous dean. After the dean finished speaking, Zayn nodded slightly. "I’ll get the Finance Department to allocate another sum later."
The dean waved his hand in embarrassment. "No, no, you've already donated enough. I didn't come here to ask you for a donation."
The dean thought that Zayn misunderstood he was here to ask for money and was shaken.
Zayn laughed and said, "It’s my idea to donate. Consider it my last contribution."
‘There’s nothing else I can do but this,’ Zayn thought.
After sending the dean of the orphanage away, Zayn sat in his large office alone. He initially wanted to call Lindsey to ask her what was going on, but he did not manage to.
He thought about many things from his childhood, those memories that were related to Lindsey and some that were unrelated to her. Looking back, everything seemed to have changed.
Soon, even the building would be demolished.
Zayn suddenly let out a sigh from the bottom of his heart.
That night, Zayn sat in his office and somehow fell asleep sitting there. He only woke up when the morning sun shone through the window and landed on his face.
Zayn was facing the sun. He looked out the window and saw the fiery brilliance of the sun. Somehow, he felt a little lost, but he did not know what for.
The things he wanted to keep could not stay, and the people he wanted by his side eventually became a stranger.
Zayn sat there in a daze for a while and suddenly stood up. He rubbed his face with force using both hands before the fatigue faded, then turned to walk out of his office.
The employees thought that Zayn would not come to the office today, but when they saw him coming out of the President’s Office, they thought, ‘The President must have spent the night in the office again last night…’
No matter what their thoughts were, no one dared to ask Zayn if he treated his office as his second home.
The employees who passed by and stopped to greet Zayn. "Good day, President."
Zayn looked like he did not hear them and only walked faster. If he was not at the office, he might have started to run.
He rushed over to the orphanage. After turning off the car engine, Zayn pushed open the car door and jumped down. He looked to be in a rush, but he was steady and stood firm. Besides the urgency in his eyes, he looked normal.
Zayn stood facing the sun in front of the orphanage and let out a breath of relief. ‘Luckily, it’s still here...’
In fact, the dean had only just told him yesterday, so how could they start the construction today? However, the thought that the orphanage would be demolished within "these few days" made him feel uneasy.
The orphanage looked exceptionally peaceful in the sunlight. Probably because construction would begin soon, the children and related personnel inside the orphanage had been temporarily relocated to other places. The gate was unlocked and there were a few workers that were moving some things.
Zayn stood at the entrance and looked at it for a while. A rare tenderness crossed his always deep eyes.
After staring at the orphanage for a while, he seemed to remember the layout of the building.
