Chapter 640 Does This Really Involve Me?
Many people were suspicious of Lindsey’s position in Hemera. Just because of that statement, those who initially stood by Lindsey were moved.
That woman was still voicing out her opinion. "I think that she’s bitter about the whole divorce and wants to get back together with Zayn Guggenheim. That’s why she wants to take down our company because we’re Denarius’ rival after all. She probably wanted to use this to please Zayn Guggenheim."
Lindsey was not arrogant in the office and rarely ever mentioned her identity, so many employees, especially those who just joined Hemera, did not even know that Lindsey and Shaun were siblings. However, these people seemed to harbor some malice towards her.
Just based on looks, Lindsey could win over all the female employees in Hemera. Even though a lot of the male colleagues did not mention it, who would not want to gain her favor? Especially when Lindsey was also Zayn Guggenheim’s ex-wife.
The desire for conquest was a man’s instinct.
Even though Lindsey was gentle, she always kept a distance from others and was not approachable. That was because to Lindsey, this was her workplace and she had no time for relationships.
Lindsey did not even feel the many advances that other employees threw at her.
This time, when news of this broke out, many people's first reaction was disbelief. Even though Lindsey treated them nicely, they were not close to her because she kept a distance from them. Coupled with jealousy and resentment, more people wanted to pull such a seemingly perfect woman off the pedestal and wanted to see her get pulled through the mud.
However, people having such thoughts were not the majority. There were still others who believed that Lindsey would not do such a thing. As they gossiped about her, Lindsey had already arrived at Shaun's office and was oblivious to the argument that had taken place after she left.
The sunlight shone into Shaun's office through the window, which illuminated the space.
When Lindsey knocked on the door and entered the office, Shaun was standing in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling glass window with his back to her. From where he was standing, the sky seemed to be within reach and the people on the ground looked like tiny ants.
"You’re here." Shaun turned around and pointed to the seat behind him. His tone was flat as he said, "Take a seat."
Lindsey made herself comfortable and was not nervous that Shaun suddenly called her in. She just sat down calmly and looked at Shaun. "Did you find anything?"
Shaun gave Lindsey a complicated look and said, "Yeah."
Lindsey had a vague feeling in her heart, but when she thought about it again, Lindsey felt that it was absurd and laughed out loud. She looked at Shaun's eyes that carried an incredulity and said, "Brother, does this really involve me?"
Shaun paused for a moment. The complexity on his face was shattered into a million pieces as he sighed helplessly. "Did you do it?"
"Of course not!" Lindsey put away the smile on her face and flat out denied it. She did not know how this was traced to her, but she knew that she did no such thing.
Shaun let out another long sigh. "But they found your email records with a stranger on your computer. Your computer records show that you’ve also sent the related documents of our new product to a third party."
"I didn't do it." Lindsey looked at Shaun with a stubborn expression. "I don't know why it turned out like this, but I didn't do it."
She looked at Shaun again and asked, "Brother, do you really think it was me?"
Shaun did not say anything, but a complex emotion flashed across his eyes. Lindsey just felt that someone had poured a bucket of cold water on her head in winter.
After coming out of Shaun's office, news of Lindsey leaking Hemera's R&D proposal to S.P. Corporation had already spread throughout the company. Even though it was a Saturday, that did not stop the employees from adding more frills as they told those who did not come to the office.
Lindsey’s eyes were a little red and looked like she had cried, but no one dared to ask her how she was doing.
That was because if this turned out to be true, then what Lindsey did was a business crime, a violation of the law. Even S.P. Corporation might be involved in a lawsuit, but no one knew if the President had notified the police of this matter.
Lindsey did not care about what others thought of her and went back to her office to take her bag and leave. The employees behind her just looked at each other and stopped talking for a while before they got into another round of heated debate that was interspersed with sighs.
The redness under Lindsey's eyes had dissipated and turned into a frightening indifference as she walked out of Hemera.
She had just taken a few steps out when the phone in her purse rang.
"Hello, Lydia." Lindsey's voice still had a little nasal tone, so she sounded very aggrieved.
Lydia let out a long sigh over the phone and her voice was tinged with concern as she said, "What's going on? Everyone’s saying that you leaked company secrets and may be handed over to the police?"
Lindsey’s eyes turned colder as she heard Lydia’s concern. Lindsey choked as if she could not bear the grievance and cried in the next second. "I...I don't know...I don't know what happened...I really didn't do it, Lydia...is someone trying to frame me?"
Lydia was silent for a moment and seemed so helpless as she sighed. “But we all have our own passwords for our computers. Even the President has no right to privately check what’s in our computers. Think about it carefully, did you lend your computer to anyone? Or did you send it out by mistake? Sigh...this is too big of a matter. What will you do in the future?"
What Lydia meant was that even though Lindsey was not aware of it, she must take responsibility for this.
Lindsey suddenly stopped talking. Lydia could only hear soft sobs from the phone, which seemed like Lindsey was having an emotional meltdown. Lydia patiently comforted Lindsey for a long time and heard that Lindsey had calmed down before she hung up the phone.
At that moment, Lindsey was still standing at the entrance of Hemera. After “crying” on the phone with Lydia for so long, she did not have any tears on her face and did not look aggrieved. There was only an endless coldness in her eyes.
Lindsey did not stay for too long and went straight home.
Mrs. Wendy was surprised to see her return and asked, "What's wrong? Didn't you say that you had to go to the office?"
Lindsey nodded and looked calm as usual. "Yeah, I finished what I had to do."
She hung up her jacket and looked out the window. It was so sunny yesterday, but today, the clouds were dense. Looking at the weather, it was probably going to rain.
Lindsey stared out the window for a while. The dark clouds in the sky were accumulating and a storm was coming.
She guessed it right. In the evening, it started to rain.
