Chapter 637 Mastermind
In the end, Sieben went back upstairs. Lindsey still did not agree to let Sieben go to Germany alone, but she could no longer advise Sieben to stop her from going either.
With her heart full of worries, Lindsey could not sleep well that night. Unsurprisingly, her nightmares haunted her one after another and she was unable to extricate herself.
It was a Friday, and Lindsey's team had already finished planning yesterday. As long as they got Shaun's approval, they could start setting up for the May Day event on the weekend, so the timing was already quite tight.
When Lindsey walked into the office in her high heels, there were still not many people there yet.
Lindsey sat at her desk. There was a morning meeting where Shaun would approve their proposal, which meant that from the afternoon onwards, they had to start setting up and work overtime this weekend.
Although she had not had this feeling in a while, she certainly did not miss it.
It was inevitable to feel burnt out after doing any job for a long time. Lindsey felt like her head was exploding after reading the report all morning. She was about to grab something to eat when her phone rang unexpectedly.
Lindsey picked it up and looked at it. It was from a landline with Atlantic City’s area code, followed by three unforgettable numbers.
It was a call from the Atlantic City Police Department.
Lindsey was dumbstruck for a moment. She sat up straight and picked up the call.
"Hello, is this Ms. Juhl?" It was a familiar female voice.
Lindsey realized after a while that this was the female police officer who had called her last time. The officer's voice was gentle, but it did not sound weak at all. It was sonorous.
She answered the officer, then the officer said, "We still need you to come to the police station for Dale Wagner’s case. When do you have time to come over?"
Hearing that name, Lindsey felt disgusted, but she still cooperated and said, "Please wait for a moment, I'll need to check my schedule."
"Okay."
Since Jess was fired, Lindsey never mentioned this person again in front of her staff. She also refused Shaun's proposal to get her a new assistant.
When she checked her schedule, she saw that she had to go to the event location at the central business district in the afternoon, which was not far from the police station.
After Lindsey and a few colleagues came out of the mall where the event would be held, she looked at the time, then waved at them and said with a smile, "You guys can head back first, I still have some things to settle around here."
Lindsey did not have an attitude towards her colleagues, but she was not overly friendly with them either, so the few people said goodbye to her and they walked in opposite directions.
The police station was not that far away, so Lindsey decided to walk over. Her footsteps were brisk.
The city center was a bustling place. The windows at the shop front were displaying exquisite luxury goods, Lindsey was not the slightest bit distracted by them and did not even glance to the side. She was just lost in her own thoughts.
The entrance of the police station was a bit out of place in this prosperous part of town. There were very few people at the entrance and only a few stores around. Opposite the police station was the cafe that she went to with Arthur last time. Its signboard was so big that it occupied half of its shopfront.
Lindsey walked over and was already sweating. When she raised her eyes to look over, she met the eyes of another woman in a red dress who had just walked out of the police station.
Ann saw Lindsey and rolled her eyes. She pushed up her large sunglasses with her slender finger, which covered up most of the impatience and surprise on her face.
Lindsey stood under the sun in a white short-sleeved dress. She initially wore a small knitted cardigan, but it was now draped on her arm due to the heat.
The hem of Ann’s skirt was slightly raised from the light breeze. Her fiery red dress made her seem even paler, but Lindsey felt that Ann’s paleness was not normal.
The last time they met was at the hospital, and the two of them got into a fight.
Almost every time they met involved some sort of conflict.
Lindsey had no intention of greeting her and walked to the door of the police station, side-stepping past Ann. Ann chased after her until Lindsey's figure disappeared.
Ann’s eyes that were covered by her sunglasses were filled with resentment and hatred.
The person who greeted Lindsey was the same female police officer from the last time. When she saw Lindsey, she poured her a glass of water and her tone was polite as she said, "Ms. Juhl, please take a seat."
Lindsey took a sip of the water as she was indeed a bit thirsty after walking in the sun for so long. After quenching the dryness in her throat, she put the glass down and asked, "What am I here for?"
"You don't have to be nervous." The female police officer across from her was about the same age as Lindsey and looked very valiant. "It's just some routine questioning. We’ve already asked those questions last time and there are a few things you need to see."
Lindsey nodded. The police officer took out several photos and several test reports. Lindsey looked through them one by one and answered whatever the officer asked. She was very cooperative.
The police officer was amused by Lindsey’s obedient attitude and subconsciously relaxed her tone. "Ms. Juhl, are you nervous? Just relax, these questions won't have that much of an impact on the case."
Lindsey shook her head and took another sip of water. "I'm not nervous, I just want this case to be finalized as soon as possible." Her eyes were deep and dark, so when she spoke without any expression, she looked extraordinarily serious.
The police officer looked at her for a moment and smiled, then nodded. "It’ll be finalized soon."
After the questioning, Lindsey was ready to leave, but she thought of something and pondered for a moment before she asked, "S.P. Corporation's President came over before I did?"
The police officer was packing up her things and was ready to send Lindsey out. When she heard this, her eyes flickered and she paused for a second before she replied, "Yeah, S.P. Corporation and Dale Wagner had close ties and met up on many occasions, so it’s inevitable for them to be investigated as well."
Lindsey nodded and was surprised. She did not expect Ann to be connected with Dale Wagner's case.
A thought suddenly flashed in Lindsey's mind. She had never understood why Dale Wagner had gone to great lengths just to arrange spies around her and put in so much effort just to drug her when she had never even met him before.
Since Ann had a business relationship with Dale Wagner and even had a close personal relationship, could Lindsey suspect that Ann was the mastermind behind all this?
That was why Dale Wagner targeted her. The spies around her were not arranged by Dale Wagner, but by this mastermind.
Lindsey was horrified by her own thoughts. These were all just guesses and she had no substantial evidence.
