Chapter 636 Survived Through The Sacrifice Of Others
Having been displaced during the first half of her life and treated like a street rat, Sieben could not even smile even when she was basking in the sunlight. However, she later met the man who gave her all the tenderness and warmth that many people envied.
She should be content.
Sieben closed her eyes to conceal the fragmented emotions that were overflowing. Before those emotions leaked out of her eyes, Sieben tightly entrapped them within her eyelids.
"My brother, sister, and my trainer were tricked and killed by Jared Moeller..." When Sieben mentioned her trainer, her tongue stumbled a little, but fortunately, Lindsey did not catch it.
That was her first and only mission as The Shadow's assassin. Sieben's thick eyelashes trembled slightly. She always thought that she had forgotten about all of this.
Sieben recalled that it was midsummer back then. The sun was so scorching hot that it made their skin peel. Back then, she was less than nine years old. She watched as the oldest brother among the four of them shielded her behind him. He was covered in so much blood that drops of blood just continued to drip on the ground.
He was hurt so badly, but he still managed to grab Sieben, who stood frozen in place. He pushed her back while he gritted his teeth and said word for word, "Go quickly! The mission is a trap...run and don’t look back! Don’t ever look back!"
Sieben’s eyes seemed to be bloodshot and she unconsciously clenched her fists. However, she managed to maintain her calm voice.
"The mission was to assassinate a local chief, but no one expected that things would not go as smoothly as we imagined. Before we could even assassinate him, our intentions and whereabouts were exposed."
Sieben shrugged her shoulders. She looked helpless and scornful as she thought about the past. "Do you know why The Shadow's missions rarely fail?"
Lindsey saw the look on Sieben’s face and knew that this was Sieben’s secret that she kept in the depths of her heart. Lindsey then subconsciously shook her head.
"That's because The Shadow would contact assassins directly, and others simply wouldn’t even know the whereabouts of the assassin. Sometimes, even the liaison wasn’t always clear about our whereabouts."
Lindsey’s eyes widened. "Then how could..."
Sieben finished Lindsey’s sentence. "How could they have known? We’d only just arrived back then and my oldest brother still hadn’t had time to report it to our trainer."
"You mean." Lindsey felt incredulous. "Your trainer was the liaison?"
‘Could it be that their trainer purposely sent them into a death trap?’
However, in the next second, Lindsey denied her own guess. "No, it can't be your trainer. You mentioned that he didn't know your whereabouts yet at the time."
Sieben looked dazed. "Right, our trainer didn't know..." Moreover, it seemed that Sieben's trainer also died in this incident.
So, who was the mastermind behind this?
Lindsey looked at Sieben and asked in a cautious tone, "So you suspect that Jared Moeller was behind all this?"
Sieben turned gloomy for a moment and said with certainty, "It's not speculation. That monster did this!"
She only managed to survive from being killed by their assassination target because her oldest brother and sister shielded her and sacrificed their lives for her.
Sieben felt that it was strange. They were clearly not close to each other and even hated that she tagged along for the mission. They barely talked to her, but they still chose to sacrifice their lives for her.
Those two people said the same thing to her before they died. They told her to run and leave this place, and never look back.
Sieben ran away for thirteen years, but in the end, she did not listen to them and looked back.
The time she looked back in France, she saw that her brother and sister had collapsed to the ground. Their muddied bodies were covered in blood and their eyes were wide open. They left this world in vain.
Later on, when she managed to escape France, she found that The Shadow was in chaos and her trainer was dead. She also looked back then and returned to Germany after two years in hiding. She then started to search for the truth of what happened back then.
However, the truth was laid out in front of her bloody eyes long ago, back when she was still in France.
Sieben's voice was steady and her face was pale and frighteningly calm. "In order to seize power and diminish Old Master Moeller’s power in The Shadow, Jared Moeller set up a trap for those who were loyal to the Old Master. He sent all of us out at different times to carry out various missions, then made it seem that the assassins died during the mission. All so he could weaken his grandfather's power at that time."
Jared Moeller looked like an honest man with a good temper, but he really was not at all a man of his appearance.
In order to build his power, Jared Moeller had remained dormant for so long. He thought that he executed his plans seamlessly, but things did not go as planned. Sieben’s trainer found out about Jared Moeller’s evil plan and tried to stop him, but he found out.
The assassins in The Shadow were heartless, but at that time, Sieben’s trainer developed some compassion for them after all these years and did not lose his humanity. At that time, he found a way to send out a group of young assassins to carry out the so-called "mission".
However, he did not know that Jared Moeller was watching his every move at the time.
Jared Moeller was just waiting to strike. Sieben’s trainer wanted to send his successors in The Shadow to safety, then expose Jared Moeller's true intentions, but he did not expect Jared to kill them all.
Lindsey was dumbfounded after she listened to the story. "Then this so-called chaos in The Shadow was caused by Jared Moeller?"
Sieben nodded. Her eyes were a little red. "It’s his doing. He put all the blame on my trainer for what happened back then. He then put a bounty on those of us who weren’t able to go back."
After that, The Shadow was in turmoil. Old Master Moeller was old and no longer had the strength to regroup The Shadow, so somehow, he handed over the organization to Jared Moeller.
Sieben was not attached to The Shadow, but when she found out that her trainer tried his best to send them away, and her brother and sister died right in front of her to protect her, The Shadow seemed to have been engraved into her heart and bones. This made her realize who gave her this life.
Lindsey and Sieben looked into each other’s eyes. Sieben blinked her cold and deep eyes as she looked at Lindsey. She no longer shed tears for these things as she knew it was useless to do so. She just said, "That’s why I must go, otherwise, my conscience will never be clear."
Sieben only managed to survive because of the sacrifice of others.
