Chapter 638 Why Then?
Jess said that she was threatened by someone, which was why she was forced to do this to Lindsey, but this matter was fishy and did not make sense. Jess was chosen by Lindsey. She had been with Lindsey for more than half a year, so there were plenty of opportunities to hurt Lindsey. Why then?
Was that Dale Wagner’s last-minute decision?
Lindsey did not know Dale Wagner and before this, Lindsey kept telling herself that Dale Wagner did not know her either. However, after some thought, as Zayn Guggenheim’s ex-wife, most of the dignitaries in Atlantic City would have heard of her. Some might have even met her before and were familiar with her.
Thus, even if she did not know Dale Wagner, that man might have known her for a long time.
If he already knew her and kept Jess around as a spy, why did he choose such a mediocre time to suddenly attack her?
Lindsey walked out of the police station looking distracted. Suddenly, Lydia’s face floated in her mind. Lydia was the one who hired Jess. Lindsey had confronted Lydia several times. Although Lydia looked normal, this did not mean anything.
Everything was entwined together and Lindsey could not make any sense of it, but she felt a vague foreboding feeling in her heart.
Ann had already left the police station by the time Lindsey went out. She then decided to go back to the office first.
Denarius.
Quentin raised his hand and gently knocked on the door three times. He then walked into the President’s Office. Zayn was busy and did not even raise his head when he heard Quentin coming in.
Quentin stood three steps away from Zayn’s desk and smiled naturally, but his tone was not pleasant as he said, "President, someone from S.P. Corporation just contacted us saying that their shipment from headquarters will arrive at the port soon, and they need your help as a guarantor."
The pen between Zayn's fingers paused for a while. His face was so indifferent that it was hard to tell what he was thinking about. His eyes flickered and he nodded slightly. His tone was as cold as always, "Alright, is everything ready?"
Zayn did not say what it was, but there was a tacit understanding between the two of them over all these years. Quentin nodded slightly. "It’s all done."
After that, Quentin turned and left the spacious office. Zayn’s index finger and thumb were resting on his chin. His eyes were deep. After a while, he took out the phone that he rarely used and dialed a number.
The phone rang three times and was answered by the end of the third ring. A man's voice came through, "Hello."
Zayn tapped on his desk twice before he said, "Get your people ready. They’re about to take the bait." Without waiting for the other side to answer, Zayn hung up the phone.
After sitting alone in his chair and pondering for a while, Zayn dialed the internal phone to Quentin, who had just left. "Tell Soren to come up."
Then, he called his lawyer.
Soren was usually busy with many trivial matters and was not always in the office. Coincidentally, he happened to be in the office today. When he arrived, he knocked on the door three times and only walked in after hearing Zayn’s response.
Zayn was talking to his lawyer. When the lawyer heard the knock, he subconsciously stopped talking. Zayn gestured for Soren to wait for a while, then looked at the lawyer and said, "Continue."
The lawyer looked at Soren, who was standing behind Zayn, and hesitated for a few seconds. He then saw Zayn’s impatient look and cleared his throat before he continued, "Mr. Guggenheim, I have added all the contents you mentioned before to the will. Please take a look and see what else is missing."
When the lawyer said the word "will", Zayn's face was calm, but behind him, Soren’s expression instantly changed.
The lawyer was a man in his thirties who had seen many things throughout his career. He took out a document from his bag and handed it to Zayn. Not to mention Soren, this lawyer did not expect Zayn would think of making a will at this age, and the beneficiary was...
It was true that ordinary people could not understand the minds of rich people.
Zayn picked up the document with his long fingers and quickly read through it. He then nodded. Although he did not speak, it was clear that he approved of the contents of the document.
After sending the lawyer away, Zayn sat with his hands in a relaxed posture in the same position and gestured for Soren to take a seat.
"President, the will..." Soren spoke slightly anxiously as soon as he sat down.
Concern overflowed from Soren’s eyes as he wondered why Zayn would make a will all of a sudden. Zayn was still healthy and able.
Before Soren could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Zayn. Zayn looked nonchalant as if what he had just gone through with the lawyer was a small, insignificant matter.
"It's nothing, it's always better to be prepared." Zayn's voice was solemn. He had become a lot more reticent compared to his young and impetuous days and seemed more authoritative.
Soren's fingers moved slightly and his emotions were complicated.
"During this time, arrange a few more people to protect them." Zayn dusted off the non-existent dirt on his sleeves and lowered his eyes so that no one could see the emotions in them.
Soren said dutifully, "Alright, but..."
Zayn knew of Soren’s concern, but he did not address them and only leaned back in his chair as he closed his eyes, looking exhausted. "I know what I’m doing. You can leave."
Soren knew that Zayn never allowed others to question his decisions and fully understood why, but emotionally, Soren could not convince himself not to care.
However, his duty was to assist and protect Zayn no matter what Zayn decided to do.
Lindsey went back to Hemera and went straight to Shaun's office.
When Shaun saw her, he unconsciously knitted his eyebrows. For some reason, seeing him like this gave Lindsey a bad premonition in her heart, so she did not care too much and took a few steps forward. "Brother."
"Did you receive the news?" Shaun also spoke at the same time.
Lindsey froze for a moment and was a little slow to react. "Huh?"
Shaun stood up from his chair with a glum face. "Our renewable energy project idea clashed with S.P. Corporation’s new idea. Also, the overseas clients that we found for our expansion had already signed with S.P. Corporation."
This time, Lindsey stood completely frozen in place. Although S.P. Corporation always had renewable energy projects, how could their idea collide with S.P. Corporation? Their Creative Team Leader and Design Team also would not allow such a thing to happen.
"How is this possible?" Lindsey finally knew why Shaun looked so glum because her face was now equally gloomy. "We’ve approached them long before and they already promised to sign with us. Why did they suddenly sign with S.P. Corporation on the eve of our event?"
Shaun already knew the insider’s information. When he called the partner to ask about this earlier, the person in charge on that side just said with a helpless and regretful face, "S.P. Corporation quoted a price that’s ten percent lower than Hemera. It’s a huge margin and no one can refuse such an offer."
At that moment, Shaun had the impulse to curse at the client and hang up directly.
