WADE’S POV
She looked surprised at my confession. I knew that I had to keep talking before she replied.
“I tried to tell myself that if I stayed away from you, I would stop caring. But every time something happened, whether good or bad, you were the person I thought of.”
I heard her breath hitched. I chuckled at the absurdity of it all.
“I came back because I realized that leaving didn’t stop me from caring. It just made me a coward.” I finally admitted to myself.
I'd been running away from her for so long. It wasn't because I was attracted to her. It was because I was afraid.
Leslie was quiet for a while. “I didn’t think you cared about me at all,” she finally said.
“I do. I really do,” I said. “More than I should. I don't even know what I should do about it.”
“That's crazy because I've never noticed it. You hide it well,” she looked at her blanket, adjusting it over her body.
