Chapter 763

"Taylor used his military position to oppress civilians and nearly caused the death of Dr. Lewis! Someone take him away and have him dealt with under military law!" Everyone's expression changed. According to military law, this was attempted murder, which could mean at least 20 years in prison! Jonah was establishing Steven's authority and was willing to break ties with the Caldwells in the process! "There's no need for you to handle this, General Lewis! I will do it!" At that moment, a voice interrupted them! The speaker was a middle-aged man standing next to Jonah. He had some resemblance to Taylor, with a dignified appearance and a commanding presence. The group of Caldwell men quickly bowed to pay their respects. Seeing this, Keaton said carefully, "Greetings, Mr. Caldwell, General Lewis." Steven raised an eyebrow. He had seen this person in the Caldwells' documents. This was the current family head, a five-star general, equal in rank to the head of Southbury District Garrison! He was Zeke Caldwell, Taylor's father! Zeke had a dark expression as he said, "My son acted foolishly. I didn't expect him to attack Dr. Lewis. Please forgive him, General Lewis." Then, he turned to shout angrily at Taylor, "You mad dog! Hurry up and apologize to General Lewis!" Taylor, supported by Nathan, spat out blood. His face was pale, but he was still defiant. "I did nothing wrong! I won't apologize!" "What did you say?" Zeke roared in anger and slapped him hard. "With General Lewis here, how dare you still act so stubborn?" Taylor took the slap, blood dripping from his mouth. He said coldly, "I respect General Lewis, but if someone demands my submission, I would rather die! "What's wrong with that? As a soldier, I'll never kneel to an enemy. So why should I kneel to someone from the slums? If the person I tried to kill is someone supported by General Lewis, all debts are cleared upon my death! "If General Lewis still isn't satisfied, he can take his anger out on the rest of the Caldwells however he wants to!" "You rebellious young man! How dare you talk back to me?" Zeke was furious. However, just as he was about to deliver another slap, Jonah sneered. "You dare to do this and face the consequences? You've got some backbone. But it's very audacious of you to offend Dr. Lewis. If you're not disciplined now, you'll become a major issue in the future!" He turned to Zeke coldly and said, "You come from a military family, so I'll give you some respect. How do you propose we settle this?" Zeke shook his head helplessly and said, "General Lewis, please don't mock me. My son has always been stubborn and never listens to me. Fortunately, you arrived on time; otherwise, Dr. Lewis would've been in real danger." As he spoke, he took out a bottle of pills from his pocket and placed it in Steven's hand. He said earnestly, "Dr. Lewis, I'm sorry for the fright you experienced. "Take this bottle of healing pills as an apology. I hope you'll find that it's adequate." Steven smirked playfully. "General Caldwell, your son nearly killed me. Do you think a bottle of pills is enough to settle this?" "Of course, there'll be more than that! The Caldwells will send gifts later, but—" Zeke quickly smiled and said, "For now, I must trouble you to treat my son quickly. I've already arranged a banquet to express my apology and help calm your nerves!" Keaton laughed angrily upon hearing this. "General Caldwell, have you lost your mind? Your son nearly killed Dr. Lewis, and now you're asking Dr. Lewis to save him?" He had never seen such shameless behavior before! Zeke was stunned. He replied mockingly, "Dr. Lewis isn't dead, is he? Unless I'm mistaken—am I speaking to a ghost? Dr. Lewis, you're still alive, aren't you?" Steven chuckled. "You really know how to make excuses for your son, don't you?"
