Chapter 762
"Taylor, you dare to attack me? You're truly crazy!"
Yvonne was both shocked and furious. The Quarry family's status was higher than the Caldwells! She didn't expect that Taylor would dare to do this!
"General Caldwell, stop! He can't die," Nathan pleaded anxiously.
He shouted at Steven, "You'd better agree now! General Caldwell isn't joking. He's known as 'Mad Dog' on the battlefield! He'll kill you! I'm not lying this time!"
Nathan was serious. Taylor appeared cold and composed on the outside, but deep inside, he was truly battle-crazed.
Taylor was extremely egotistical. He saw himself as the future of the Caldwells. To him, the Caldwells would either reach their peak under his control or fall to the deepest depths.
If he died and there was no one to succeed him, the Caldwells had no reason to continue. Taylor was an extremist and there was no compromise to be had!
Bowing to someone like Steven, whom he looked down on, was impossible.
Yvonne shouted urgently, "Isn't someone's life on the line? Hurry up and agree!"
Taylor's voice remained cold, "This is your last chance!"
Steven used his mind-reading ability and realized that Nathan wasn't lying.
Taylor couldn't be considered a person; he was more like a proud and sharp sword. Unyielding and strong, something that would rather break than bend.
However…
Steven had a subtle smile as he said, "I said I won't save you, so I won't. Besides, an elephant can't be trampled by an ant. Some may have the right to kill me, but it won't be a lowly person from the slums, let alone someone like you!"
"Fine." Taylor's glare turned fiercer and he suddenly tightened his grip. He was ready to choke Steven to death!
All of a sudden, a powerful force descended from above!
There was a tremendous surge of energy that roared like a dragon from the entrance, crashing straight into Taylor. He flew from the force and slammed hard into the wall. He even started spitting out blood.
Steven took deep breaths immediately upon being released. There were red marks on his neck. He wasn't surprised by the intrusion.
He said scornfully, "Did you think I had no backup? I'm not as reckless as you are."
He then turned to the entrance. Jonah walked in with a solemn expression and Steven smiled.
Steven said respectfully, "Hello, General Lewis."
Keaton ran over to him and said worriedly, "Dr. Lewis, are you okay? Why did you enter when it seemed dangerous?"
"It's okay, I was just being the bait."
Steven realized something was wrong while he was in the elevator. When he reached the basement floor, he used his X-ray vision to see what was happening inside.
Without another word, he called for help immediately. Since anyone who dared to attack him had to be from a powerful group, he had asked Keaton for Jonah's assistance.
He entered the room alone to bait out the information and to see who it was. It turned out to be the madman Taylor.
"Taylor dared to hurt you! It's my fault for not protecting you well, Dr. Lewis!" Jonah said, both angry and apologetic when he saw the marks on Steven's neck.
Steven was his savior, and Jonah had vowed to protect him. However, Steven had almost lost his life right under his watch! Wasn't that a slap to Jonah's face?
