Chapter 677

Really? Matthew was taken aback. He never thought Alan was coming for him as well. Maybe Matthew had taken out too many Eastorians earlier, catching their attention. He looked even more tense now, knowing more trouble was on the way. But he still felt a rush of excitement kicking in. Bring it on! Anyone who dared to come at him was going down! Matthew kept a close watch on Nightwrath sword, staying on guard. Alan confidently smirked as he saw Matthew's cautious stance and scoffed. "The people you took down were all weaklings. They wouldn't be considered fighters at Whitewick Brook, let alone Eastoria. I'll show you what a true martial artist is." Upon finishing his sentence, Alan swung Nightwrath sword in a diagonal slash. The sword flashed through the air, stopping just an inch in front of a potted plant. With a woosh, the slash sent out a gust of wind, sending two leaves fluttering down. Alan staunchly declared, "This is Nightwrath, a longsword known as one of the five legendary swords. The wind from its swing can slice a leaf in mid-air." Five legendary swords? Matthew furrowed his brows. Any weapon with a reputation like that was no ordinary one. Nightwrath sword had something unsettling about it. Matthew slowly relaxed all his muscles, making his whole body loosen up. But at any moment, he could unleash formidable strength with his muscles. His focus was razor-sharp as he locked onto Alan. Alan continued, "I'm Alan Kaiser, the third-born of the Kaiser family. My sword techniques come from the Swiftblade Division of Dunkelwald, and I'm the best among the young blood. And you? I only need two strikes to take you down." After taking a firm stance, Alan wielded his sword with both hands as he closed in on Matthew. The latter retreated a step back, ending up outside the door. Upon seeing this, Alan snickered. "Relax. It'll just take two hits to finish you off at most. I'm quick with my sword. It's so fast that you won't even feel a thing." Matthew spotted a broom leaning by the doorway and grabbed it as he kept backing up. He didn't stop until he was in the center of a yard. Meanwhile, the sound of footsteps echoed from a short distance away. With a man closing in on Wendy, she was driven back into the yard. Upon seeing Matthew, she eagerly ran up to him. "Someone stopped me at the entrance, and I can't get out. Please. I need your help." Help? Alan emerged with Nightwrath sword in his hand. "Look at what he's holding. He can't even protect himself. How is he going to save you?" As Wendy caught a glimpse of what Matthew was wielding, her face went as white as a sheet. Matthew was clutching a broom, while Alan was armed with a sword. Going up against a sword with a broom? There was no way Matthew was winning this. All her hopes were crushed in an instant. "C-can't you pick something else like a shovel or something?" Matthew was done for. After he died, she would've lost her last shot at staying alive. With each step forward, Alan moved in on Matthew. "When it comes to the Swiftblade Division of Dunkelwald, no one can make it past the second strike. You might not even last through my first attack, but at least it's an honor to die by my hand." As Alan spoke, he closed the distance and bellowed, "Die!" With a whoosh, Nightwrath sword came slashing down at Matthew like a streak of light. Matthew's muscles tensed up immediately as he swiftly darted backward. Alan flashed a vicious grin. This was the moment he had been waiting for. As Alan swung his sword, its tip aimed straight at Matthew's heart. His foot erupted with tremendous power as he kicked off the ground, shattering the red bricks beneath him with a bang. Alan darted forward like a bullet toward Matthew, thrusting Nightwrath sword straight at Matthew's heart. As Matthew backed away, he suddenly stopped and jabbed the broom toward the tip of the sword. Alan sneered at the sight. Matthew actually used a broom to face off against Nightwrath sword. How foolish! He put all his strength into this attack. When the tip of Nightwrath sword met the broom, it cut through it easily, like a hot knife through butter. In an instant, Nightwrath sword smoothly sank into the broom, like a sword sliding into its sheath.
