Chapter 675
Matthew started slowing down the car when he was about a mile away from the poultry farm. He gently stepped on the gas, inching forward without making too much noise.
At the entrance of the poultry farm, Matthew instructed Wendy, "As you get out of the car, keep it down and don't spook anyone."
Wendy repeatedly rubbed her temples. "Are you really going to confront Alan? Trust me. He's tough. You don't stand a chance against him."
However, Matthew didn't take Wendy's words seriously at all. "Just show me the way. I'll take care of my own problems."
Wendy held her tongue. She massaged her head as she complained, "Picking on a woman, huh? Acting tough and all. I—"
Halfway through her sentence, Wendy met Matthew's piercing gaze and swallowed the rest of her words. They got out of the car and made their way to the main gate.
A security guard warmly greeted Wendy. "Welcome back, Ms. Hayes."
Wendy hummed in acknowledgment and continued moving forward, but the gate remained closed.
Smiling, the security guard asked, "Who's this? I don't think he is on the visitor list."
Wendy was taken aback. "So what? You better know your place. I'm the manager here."
The guard apologetically replied, "Sorry. I was just asking."
Wendy coldly grunted. "You're just a gatekeeper. How dare you question me?" After saying that, Wendy led Matthew inside.
The security guard glanced at them as they headed inside. He pulled out his phone and opened a contact named "Mr. Kaiser" before typing, "Ms. Hayes brought a man with her, Mr. Kaiser—"
As he was typing, he felt a shadow looming over him, like something was blocking the light. He looked up and saw Matthew standing right there, making him jump in fright.
With a thud, Matthew struck his fist against the security guard's temple, and the latter dropped to the ground like a log.
Matthew quickly turned back and caught up to Wendy, continuing onward. She had no idea what had just happened.
Wendy knitted her brows together and made her way to a residence. She was worried about how to face Alan later.
As she came closer to a two-story house, she stopped in her tracks and faced Matthew. "I have no idea who you are, and you probably think you're pretty tough. Sure, you are definitely stronger than a woman like me."
Wendy still held a grudge against Matthew for pulling her hair, and her words were dripping with sarcasm.
She paused and glanced at Matthew before continuing, "However, I'd advise you not to provoke Alan. You have no clue how strong he is. If you walk away now, you might still make it out alive."
On her way here, she'd been holding back the entire time, but now she finally spoke her mind.
Matthew's gaze turned menacing. "Do you think I'm scared to lay a hand on you now because we're here?"
Realizing that Matthew was still so stubborn after getting here, Wendy knew there was no way to keep Alan from finding out about this. She decided to go with a different plan.
"Fine. If you insist, I'll bring you to Alan."
At the door, Wendy raised her hand and hesitated for a bit before finally mustering the courage to push the door open.
Inside, Alan was training with Nightwrath sword in his hand. As one of the five legendary swords in Eastoria, it was truly a renowned sword.
Gleaming with a dazzling light, the sword had a straight, narrow spine. Every time Alan swung the sword, the blade let out a sharp whistle.
Seeing Wendy's return, Alan stopped his training and sheathed Nightwrath sword. After putting it on the sword rack, he turned to look at her. "What brings you back? Aren't you staying at—"
As Alan spoke, he suddenly caught sight of someone standing in the doorway. Pointing at Matthew, he glared at Wendy and snapped, "Who is he?"
He had to keep a low profile. Except for Wendy and the guards, hardly anyone knew about him. So, when she brought someone over without giving him a heads-up, he was really upset.
Wendy hurriedly explained, "You see. I—"
Alan slapped Wendy across the face and yelled, "You brought someone here without my permission! Are you asking for trouble?"
