Chapter 28

The rosary bracelet sank to the bottom of the fountain. The faint sound of the bracelet hitting the water was like a signal that completely shattered the last sliver of hope Maverick had. The medical staff rushed into the ward to try and resuscitate Maverick upon hearing the heart rate monitor's high-pitched alarm going off. However, Nicole walked out of the room without sparing Maverick another glance. She went down the corridor and disappeared around the corner without ever slowing down her stride. Maverick seemed to have exhausted the last bit of vitality he had during the resuscitation process. He was like a broken doll that had run out of battery. For several days, Maverick looked like he might die at any moment. Fortunately, the doctors managed to keep him alive. Yet, Maverick seemed to be nothing more than an empty shell at that point. He did not refuse treatment or try to end his own life again. However, he appeared to have lost his spirit and vigor. He became awfully si
