Chapter 774 Hidden Secrets

Vickie’s footsteps were calm yet firm. It was as if a sledgehammer had gently brushed against her heart. It did not hurt but you could feel her sorrow and misery. Just as the hem of the woman’s dress disappeared from the doorstep, the study door swung open silently. Cup in his hand, Gregory raised his eyebrows as the door to her room shut with a dull thud. At that moment, a man’s mocking tone could be heard from Gregory’s earpiece. “Boss, why don’t you show your gratitude since sister-in-law has taken the initiative to deliver herself to your door late at night?” The ironic voice arose from the earpiece. The man pressed his lips to a firm line and he flashed back to the scenario two minutes ago with the woman where she leaned lazily against his door frame in a maroon-colored nightgown. His eyes grew dim and he spat coldly, “Looks like you have quite the time lately. Should I invite Selena over to practice with you?” “Ah, no, no!” The opposite party quickly corrected his words. “I didn’t see anything boss, I swear!” The corner of Gregory’s lips lifted into a smirk. The man walked downstairs silently with the cup in his hand. Most of his subordinates knew about his relationship with Vickie. After all, people hated her 4 years ago, but not those who knew what happened. These people were Gregory’s true confidantes. They knew how Gregory felt about Vickie. Hence, they had always addressed her as ‘sister-in-law’. However, the two of them never got along. Gregory’s eyes darken again at the thought of this and the warmth in his eyes left, leaving a faint coldness in it. On the other hand, Vickie fished out her phone when the door closed. Her slender fingers danced on the keyboard as she typed a series of numbers. She walked to the window, pulled up the shades, and waited for her call to be connected. A woman’s charming voice answered the call. “Hello!” Even after a while, Vickie did not reply. So the woman asked again confusedly, “Hello?” Vickie’s fingers started to tremble. This was the first time she heard that familiar voice since she got out of prison. She secretly took a deep breath, and once she was sure that her voice would sound calm enough, she said, “Little Eight.” The other end went hushed for a while before it replied coldly, “Who are you?” She grinned as she could feel the receiver of the call became nervous. A wave of peacefulness suddenly rushed over her. She said slowly, “It doesn’t matter who I am. I have a business opportunity for you, will you be free for the next two days?” “Speak!” “10:00 am tomorrow. Tokyo. I want a corpse stolen.” “Pui—” The person seemed to have choked on water and coughed. After half a beat, the voice scoffed, “I don’t take job offers for ancient corpses!” “40 Million,” Vickie replied firmly. “Hmm… There shouldn’t be any taboos for an ancient corpse. Fine, it’s a deal.” “Good. I will send the address and pictures to you in awhile.” “Ok!” Then, the line went dead. The screen on her phone darkened as she grabbed her laptop from her bed. With a helpless smile hung on the side of her cheek, she sent the pictures, address, and details to the woman. Her phone buzzed 10 minutes later. The woman had replied very quickly. [Wow. It’s not an ancient corpse. Just some wealthy person who has nothing better to do.] Vickie gave a bitter smile. Although they had worked together numerous times, they had never met because she wanted to conceal her identity. Yet, she needed the woman’s help to steal the corpse now. It was quite marvelous how the world worked. She rapidly drafted a text message and replied. [It’s no mummy. 40 Million Dollars is a generous amount for you.] The woman replied with a smiling poop emoji. It was already 9:00 am when she woke up the next day. Vickie stretched herself lazily and stared at the warm sunshine outside her window. She did not feel like getting out of bed. Her life used to be stressfully hectic. She was even busier than the Vermilion Bird Organization; so busy that it was typical for her to stay up for four days, let alone laze in bed. It was a miracle that she had the luxury to wake up anytime she wanted. With her eyes half-opened, she beamed as a thought crossed her mind. Life was good, things were easy-going, and she felt free. Just as she was about to brush her teeth, she realized that something was not right. The shades were open. At the back of her mind, she knew that she had pulled them shut last night. She frowned, and with a click, her room door swung open. Andrea walked into the room cautiously with a tray, and a small bowl laid on top. Intelligent and obedient, Andrea was her personal maid assigned by Mr. Osborn. Across the glass door, Vickie narrowed her eyes as Andrea placed the bowl at the desk by her bedpost. Andrea turned and looked startled when she saw the crumpled up comforter on Vickie’s bed. “Hmm? Where is she?” Andrea was folding the comforter when she heard a voice behind her. “What are you doing?” Ever since she returned, the maids were not exactly friendly towards her, hence Vickie disliked them and rarely went out. When it was mealtime, Andrea was usually occupied in the kitchen. The chance of them meeting was much lesser than the chances of her crossing paths with Yuliana Lynch. So what brought her here today? Vickie glanced at the bowl of soup by her desk and walked out of the washroom. “I… I…” At the sight of Vickie’s pale expression, Andrea could not help but blush. She lowered her head and stuttered, “Young Master wanted me to have this soup delivered to you.” “Gregory Graham?” Vickie raised her eyebrows. “Hasn’t he left yet?” “It’s a Sunday today so the Young Master did not go to the company. Instead, he invited Young Master Nolan to play ball. “ Vickie pondered for a moment. She stared at Andrea and softened her tone when she asked, “Did you open the shades too?” Andrea gave a shy smile. “Young Master instructed me to do so. He told me to lift the shades and open the window if you’re still sleeping. He also said to tell you to get dressed as soon as you’re awake. Young Master Nolan and his friends have arrived.” From what she just said, did it mean that Gregory Graham had invited over a few friends to play ball? It seemed like he wanted her to join them. Vickie frowned, but she waved at Andrea. “I got it. Tell him I’ll be there after I get dressed.” Andrea seemed like she still wanted to say something but Vickie pushed her out of her room and the door closed with a bang. Vickie went to the closet. It was filled with various styles of clothes, all picked by professionals at Gregory’s order. She went through them meticulously and picked a grey casual outfit. When she had put them on, she fished out her phone and sent Little Eight a message. [When will you arrive?] Some time passed before there was a reply. [8 pm.] She raised her eyebrows slightly. Vickie sat in silence, placed her phone back in her pocket, and walked out of the room.
