Chapter 773 Asking For A Favour
In fact, when Vickie and Gregory used to be on good terms, it was not as if she was unaware that people were guarding in the vicinity.
It was just that they were noticeable back then, and things were concealed now instead. It was clear that Gregory had improved a lot on the chateau’s defenses.
As an outstanding assassin, she was accustomed to familiarizing herself with her surroundings first up. However, she did not think much of the hidden defenses. After all, Gregory had an extraordinary identity.
Moreover, the Graham family was filthy rich!
Wealthy people usually cherish their lives. If they did not hire security with real skills to guard and defend them every day, what if someone who took things a little too seriously decided to rob them with heavy firearms someday?
One should keep in mind that there were a number of people who harbored extreme hatred towards the rich in this world.
Even so, she took note to familiarize herself roughly with the hidden defenses on a dark, windy night and had them kept at heart.
Who knew if it would come in handy someday, and although Gregory Graham agreed to collaborate with her, her current situation was not favorable.
Since the two of them harbored hate towards each other, it would only be a matter of time for them to draw blood.
None of the people here stood by her. If not for the fact that it was hard to complete her task individually, she would not have been brazen enough to stay back.
As her thoughts wandered here, her heart suddenly felt like it was being clenched. She frowned slightly in pain.
Vickie’s black pupils shone as she took a deep breath, hiding away the surge of emotions at the bottom of her heart and turned on her laptop.
She randomly clicked into several entertainment sights and indulged in them for a few minutes before browsing the news webpage.
As she was not sure if the website was secure, she did not browse any of the usual websites which provided military information even though it might contain information that she wanted to know about.
She roughly browsed through several military websites, but other than several border drills, there was nothing much. She was feeling rather disappointed when she received a notification from QQ and it grabbed her attention.
She clicked into the news that popped out only to discover that it was a piece of rape-murder news about a female Country R student in a nightclub. She roughly glanced through the document and laid eyes on the last picture which sent shivers down her spine.
The picture was taken at the side of a highway where the body was found in a foul-smelling sewer. Naked with a ghastly complexion, the body was covered with dark red spots. The lower part of the body had rotted and was stained with what looked like tiny microorganisms. It was hard to make out what it was, but it left people feeling terribly horrified and disgusted.
Vickie’s complexion suddenly turned pale as she grew out of breath. Clutching at the edge of the laptop, her fingers too became pale, as if there were no trace of blood to it. She glared at the picture on her screen silently before her gaze darkened, as though the demons had broken loose from hell.
“Smack!”
She snapped her laptop shut abruptly. With her head high and eyes closed, she looked like she was regulating her emotions.
In one swift move, she jumped down from her bed.
It was 11:00 pm and most of the people in the house had slept, except for one man — Gregory Graham.
She walked to the main floor. From afar, she could see that the lights to the study were still on, just as she expected.
From her observation, Vickie knew that Gregory would not rest until it was 1:00 am or 2:00 am. He would then leave by 7:00 am sharp, so both of them really did not have much of a chance to meet each other.
This was the first time in weeks that she was looking for him.
Since she was home and it was nighttime, she only wore a nightgown that was maroon colored and had two layers, consisting of a camisole on the inside and a layer of silk on the outside.
“Tap, tap, tap!”
She walked to the doorway of the study and knocked on the door.
A crisp, cold voice replied, “Come in.”
Vickie pushed open the door, and behind the desk sat a man who was concentrating seriously. The dim light brightened his delicately gorgeous features at the side of his face with his eyebrows slightly frowned and his lips arched in a perfect angle, just like those of a portrait.
“Is there anything?” he scoffed.
Vickie stopped by her tracks and stood by the doorway. She left a moderate distance between them as she squinted her eyes at him and snorted a soft “Mmhm”.
She hesitated before asking him for a favor, “I’m going to Tokyo tomorrow morning, can you help arrange for my flight?”
A while ago, Graham Corporation had bought over a company known as Proton Automobile Company from Country R. It seemed that Proton Automobile Company and R Airlines had inextricable ties with one another, hence that was how Vickie knew that Gregory had quite some privileges in certain areas.
Since she had to get to Tokyo tomorrow morning, it was obviously too late to book a flight ticket now which was why she had to ask for Gregory’s help.
The man did not even raise his head as he asked indifferently, “What are you going to Tokyo for?”
“A friend has passed away so I need to attend the funeral,” Vickie lied with a straight face.
“What’s his name?”
Vickie was slightly stunned. “Who?”
The man raised his head from the huge pile of documents. Under the light, his eyes looked as calm as the deep ocean and his thin lips whispered, “Your friend.”
Vickie was speechless.
She simply made a lie because why would she have thought of a name? She was worried that if she blurted out a random name, he would question her further, hence she simply kept her mouth shut.
The man raised his eyebrows in annoyance.
She thought for a moment and her temper flared as she rested her shoulder by the door. She said, “Even if I tell you so, you won’t have any idea who he is. Just tell me if you will help me out or not!”
Gregory pursed his lips. He did not reply as his gaze swept through her body from head to toe.
Lowering his head again, he continued to read through his documents. His stone black eyes were darker than before.
“I will not help you!” He rejected.
Time stopped for a moment. As if he felt the woman’s glare from the doorway, he raised his head slightly with a frown and explained to her calmly, “There will be a typhoon in Tokyo tomorrow. Just send another person who resides there if he is not an important friend.”
Once again, Vickie was stunned. She immediately came to her senses and shook her head in refusal. “It’s fine.”
The man looked slightly surprised as she left the room after she politely closed the door of the study.
An apricot lamp shone in the hallway in the late night. The soft gleam pulled her tall shadowy figure much further until it reached the darkness. She stood still with her back straight under the faint light like a stone-cold statue.
She silently clenched her fist. “I will not let you remain in that dirty piece of land!”
