Chapter 160
It was Janice's voice. It turned out that the Youle family's business in Creybia had recently run into trouble, and they were forced to resort to a marriage alliance to avoid bankruptcy.
The Savage family was extremely influential in Dowonair, but there were a few people who knew that their true foundation lay in Creybia.
Gavin had been frail and sickly since childhood. His parents had moved to Dowonair, which was known for its beautiful and recuperative environment, for the sake of his health.
After the Youle family accidentally learned about this, they began plotting to have Janice marry Gavin. That was why Janice had come to Dowonair specifically to get engaged to Gavin.
However, she hadn't anticipated that Yolanda's appearance would ruin the Youle family's plan.
Now that she had been publicly exposed, she suffered public humiliation. Not only that, the Youle family's prospects of expanding into Dowonair had been completely cut off.
The failure of the marriage alliance meant that, no matter the reason, she would be scolded once she returned home. Given how many daughters they had in the family, Janice's ultimate fate would likely be abandonment.
The root cause of all these setbacks Janice encountered was Yolanda.
Consumed by rage, Janice decided to teach Yolanda a lesson. She had used her connections to reach out to some friends in Dowonair and had them introduce her to some local thugs from the city's underground circles.
Janice paid them a hefty sum to break Yolanda's legs, disfigure her face, and post it all online.
"I want to see if Gavin will still want you as his fiancée when you're crippled and that already ugly face becomes even uglier!" Janice jeered, laughing maniacally.
Provoked and consumed by jealousy, Janice glared venomously at Yolanda. All she wanted now was revenge. The more Yolanda suffered, the happier she would be.
"What are you all waiting for? Get her!" she shouted at the thugs.
"Yes, miss!"
The thugs, holding wooden clubs, quickly surrounded Yolanda. The leader, a young man with bleached hair known as Blondie, said to Yolanda, "Don't blame us. This is just a job for us. Blame yourself for offending the wrong person."
As soon as he finished speaking, the thugs swung their clubs down at Yolanda's legs. Janice stared intently at the scene, her eyes filled with madness.
"Hit her with all you've got!"
But just when she was expecting to hear Yolanda's screams of pain, the cries that filled the alley didn't sound right. They weren't Yolanda's screams—they were coming from the thugs she had hired.
The thug who had tried to strike Yolanda hadn't even gotten close before she snatched the club from his hand. In one swift move, she broke the thug's arms and then kicked him away instead.
"Ah!"
"Everyone, attack!"
Blondie steeled his resolve and rushed forward. Yet, the result was the same. In less than five minutes, all the thugs Janice had hired were writhing in pain on the ground.
"How... How is this possible…" Janice stood there, stunned as she stared at all the men sprawled on the ground.
When she finally looked up, she locked eyes with Yolanda's cold, emotionless gaze. She shivered involuntarily.
"D-Don't come any closer…"
Now, Janice was genuinely scared. The information she had gathered said that Yolanda was just a useless nobody. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that Yolanda would be this formidable!
But given the current situation, there was no time for her to figure out where things had gone wrong. Met with extreme danger, her survival instincts kicked in. She instinctively turned and tried to run away.
Unfortunately, after taking only a few steps, Yolanda was somehow already standing in front of her.
"Who… Who are you?" Janice asked in horror.
Yolanda was supposed to be a loser! There was no way she could be this strong!
