Chapter 159

"Besides, the Youle family doesn't even qualify as an elite family in Creybia. They could never afford to buy a necklace like that," Yolanda remarked. "How do you know that the Youle family isn't an elite family in Creybia?" someone in the crowd asked dubiously. Yolanda chuckled softly. "Do you think that someone from an elite family in Creybia would go out of their way to attend a banquet in a small city like Dowonair?" That one simple question left everyone speechless. Yolanda was right. They had been taken in by Janice's pretentious air, her designer outfit, and the supposed 200-million-dollar diamond necklace around her neck. So, they blindly believed in her claims. But now that they thought about it, apart from Gavin and a few young heirs from true elite families who were present at this banquet, most of the guests were from second-rate families. There was no way a genuine young lady from an elite family of Creybia would show up here specifically for this event. "You… You're just making things up!" Janice was already flustered after being exposed for wearing fake diamonds. Now that her family background was being questioned, she was furious, but helpless, and could only repeatedly accuse Yolanda of slander. Janice was still not willing to give up. "Those are just your assumptions! What's wrong with me coming to Dowonair because I like Gavin?" "Would a true elite family allow their daughter to chase after a man and do something so undignified?" This time, Yolanda didn't even need to respond—someone else from the crowd spoke up. The guests around her no longer believed Janice. At this point, they could find loopholes in everything she said. "I… I snuck out without telling my family…" Janice tried to explain. "Enough! We're not idiots. You should know when to stop." "Exactly. Yolanda may not be the best, but you can't go around putting on airs and think it's okay to pester Mr. Savage either!" "Get out!" "You're not welcome here!" "Get lost!" "Bitch! Just you wait!" Janice gritted her teeth and cursed before storming out in humiliation amidst the jeering laughter of the crowd. As she disappeared from view, the commotion finally died down. Afterward, Gavin and Yolanda quietly left the banquet hall as well. Gavin had never been fond of these kinds of social gatherings. He only showed up this time to make an appearance. His real goal was to send a message to Henry, who had been attending these events on his behalf, that he was no longer the same person as before. He needed to make Henry know his place. Once they exited the hotel, Gavin told Yolanda that he had to head to Savage Group's headquarters. "Come with me," he invited. "I'll pass. I'm heading straight back to the Henderson residence," Yolanda replied. She knew that if Gavin was going to Savage Group, he probably had serious business to handle, and she didn't want to interfere. Besides, she had no interest in the power struggles within these family businesses. "Alright. I'll come pick you up when I'm done. We'll go for supper." "Okay." After saying goodbye to Gavin, Yolanda turned and walked toward the subway station. Back in Creybia, she hardly ever took the subway. But ever since coming to Dowonair, she found that taking public transportation was a rather interesting experience. There was a shortcut to the subway station through a relatively secluded alleyway. As soon as Yolanda stepped into the alley, she sensed that there were people following her, and there were quite a few of them. She pretended not to notice and continued walking. When she reached the middle of the alley, a group of thuggish-looking men suddenly jumped out from the front, blocking her path. Yolanda didn't turn around, but she could hear the sound of chaotic footsteps approaching from behind. Then, a shrill voice rang out. "Bitch! How dare you ruin my plans? I'm going to break your legs today!"
