Race Recklessly

The competition was about to start. August, the referee, was standing on the start line with a small flag in his hand, blowing a whistle. At his command, the black Volkswagen transformed into a swift arrow, howling as it left its position. In the blink of an eye, it was no longer visible. The crowd stared at the scene in surprise, momentarily forgetting to react. Gabriel was baffled too. Was it... really the speed a Volkswagen should have? What was going on? Did this young lady secretly modify the car? As they watched the black Volkswagen climb up the winding mountain road, it reached the third roundabout within less than ten seconds. The speed was high and consistent, and the drift when turning corners was almost perfect. The crowd was puzzled, all of them standing in a daze, forgetting to breathe. Gabriel smiled with interest. As he looked at the speeding Volkswagen, a glint of interest flashed in his eyes. He originally assumed that this young lady was to amuse him. But he didn't expect her to have real skills. Interesting. It had been a long time since he encountered such an interesting person. "Mr. Wright!" August, clasping his stopwatch, was somewhat anxious. "This young girl is truly skillful! If you give her thirty seconds, would you..." Gabriel sighed. "Then blame me for bringing it onto myself! I must have had a moment of folly just now to agree to race against her using my top-class sports car." If he ended up losing, how embarrassed he would be. Well, he was the one who asked for this and couldn't blame anyone else. He originally planned to teach this arrogant girl a lesson and let her experience the harsh realities of the world, but now it seemed like the one learning the harsh realities was him. Thinking about the girl's meaningful smile, Gabriel couldn't help but shudder. Well, he finally understood! So, the girl was scheming against him just now. But he thought he was her savior, even voluntarily adding an extra ten seconds. He was indeed a big sucker! "Mr. Wright! Thirty seconds are almost up. Make your preparations!" August urged. Regaining his senses, Gabriel hit the accelerator at August's command, roaring away from the scene. Everyone tensely watched the silver sports car. True to its reputation as a top-class sports car, it took less than a minute to catch up with Valentina's black Volkswagen. At this moment, both of their cars had reached halfway up the hill. Looking at the supercar chasing behind her, Valentina frowned slightly. Its speed was faster than she anticipated. But luckily, she had a trick up her sleeve. Valentina let off the gas, lightly hit the brakes, and performed a gorgeous drift, leaving Gabriel behind. This bend was particularly steep, and a bit of carelessness could lead to the danger of plunging into the cliff. Gabriel watched with fear and bit his teeth, his competitive spirit being fully provoked. He caught up quickly, attempting to overtake. Yet, Valentina anticipated his plan and blocked his car. By every turn, Valentina could utilize her perfect drifts to widen the distance between her and Gabriel. Gabriel was getting frantic. His few attempts to overtake failed, and he almost grazed his car's front and caused an accident. Enraged, he seized the opportunity and rushed past recklessly, finally succeeding to overtake! "Phew!" Gabriel let out a long sigh of relief. Looking at the Volkswagen catching up in the rearview mirror, he felt incredibly refreshed! That was the thrill of racing! As long as he could block the Volkswagen and prevent the girl from overtaking, he would surely win. For the rest of the drive, Gabriel, wanting to counteract the embarrassment before, deliberately obstructed the Volkswagen on the road and hit the brakes, feeling extremely pleased. At the foot of the hill, everyone anxiously and excitedly watched the cars coming around again. "He's here! Mr. Wright is coming down." The silver sports car appeared on the mountain top, just as everyone expected. Although Gabriel was held up for thirty seconds, his top-grade sports car was outstanding. How could a black Volkswagen possibly be his match? "Wait a minute. Is that black Volkswagen overtaking him?" "She's keeping up so closely! How is that possible?" When they saw the black Volkswagen stubbornly chasing after Gabriel, everyone was stunned. "This doesn't make sense! How is Mr. Wright unable to outdrive her?" The crowd's attitude swiftly changed as they anxiously watched the events unfold on the road. Gabriel didn't give Valentina any chance to overtake him. The finish line was close. The victory was within sight, Gabriel's face already wearing a winner's smile. This game was worth playing as the girl was truly remarkable. The outcome was already decided. Although the black Volkswagen lost, it made everyone reassess their view of Valentina. It was an honorable defeat. Just as everyone was preparing to congratulate Gabriel, the black Volkswagen suddenly increased its distance from the silver sports car and sped up. As the black Volkswagen agilely grazed the top of Gabriel's head, the crowd stirred, then fell silent. The black Volkswagen flew over Gabriel's head under the watchful, incredulous gaze of the crowd. Gabriel could only sense a shadow looming overhead. Looking up instinctively, he saw the shabby, worn underside of the Volkswagen. He couldn't help but gape in amazement. The sound of gasps echoed around the scene. The black Volkswagen soared past the silver sports car, landing ahead of it, and crossing the finish line. Immediately after, it executed a beautiful drift, turning its head to face the silver sports car that had just crossed the line as if looking condescendingly at the loser. The audience was dead silent. August exclaimed, "HOLY SHIT!" After what felt like an eternity, someone in the crowd shouted a crude exclamation, followed by a chorus of "Holy shit!" "Holy shit, who knew that old Volkswagen could drive like that?" "Holy shit, are we in a real-life Fast and Furious?" "Holy shit, what the hell did I just see? Did that car really just fly? Did it fly?"
