Chapter 507 Flirting In The Middle of The Night
Since everyone was there for dinner, Old Master Taylor took the opportunity to say, "Verian, I heard that you made it into the finals. Congratulations."
"Thanks, Dad."
"Well…when is the final round? You and Heaton have to start thinking about the wedding after it is over. Don't expect me to constantly nag you guys about it, alright?"
Just as Verian was just about to speak, Heaton said, "Dad, we would have to delay the wedding temporarily. Riana and I still have some work to do."
Verian stared at him and said, "Heaton?"
Old Master Fudd frowned. He seemed slightly displeased as he said, "What are you busy with? Can't you take a couple of days off for the wedding?"
Heaton placed his bowl and chopsticks down and said, "Dad, could you not bother about this matter? Riana and I are already married. It is only the wedding dinner. We can hold it anytime in the future, so there's no need to rush."
Little Jelly Bean spoke in a depressing tone, "When can I be the flower child then?"
The little rascal loved to watch other people's weddings. So, she was frustrated when her parents said that the wedding would be delayed.
Old Master Fudd was annoyed too, and just as he was about to say something about it, Heaton said, "I'm full. You guys can continue."
Heaton immediately left the dining table and went straight to his study.
The old man stared at Heaton's back; he was baffled. He asked Verian, "Verian, did you fight with Heaton? What's wrong with him?"
"No. Maybe his stomach isn't feeling too well. I'll check on him later."
The old man scoffed and dropped the issue. He said, "What an insolent child."
As Little Jelly Bean slurped her spaghetti, she curiously asked, "Grandpa, what does insolent mean?"
The old man explained with a smile, "It's like when a child wouldn't listen to an adult. Oh, Jelly Bean, my good granddaughter. Don't learn that from your dad, okay?"
"Yeah! I will listen to Grandpa!"
Little Jelly Bean's lips were extremely sweet, and it made the old man burst out in laughter as he said, "Oh, my dear obedient granddaughter! Come now, have some ribs!"
Verian did not have much of an appetite as well; she took merely a couple of bites. After dinner, she prepared a plate of fruits before she walked upstairs to look for Heaton.
She knocked on the door before she walked into the room. She said, "Heaton, you barely ate anything for dinner. Why don't you have some fruits?"
The man replied calmly, "I'm not hungry, and I don't want to eat now."
Verian was speechless.
Verian did not wish to beat around the bush. So, she placed the plate of fruits beside him and stared at him. She asked, "Did you mean what you said to me in the backyard? You're not changing your mind?"
"No, who told you that a woman is not allowed to go after her dreams after her marriage? I'm not an unreasonable man."
Verian raised her brows and asked, "Really? My trip to England isn't just for a couple of days. It would at least take a year and a half. If I go, wouldn't we be separated? Wouldn't you miss me?"
Heaton shifted his gaze from his laptop to her. He spoke in a serious tone, "I can visit you in England."
"But are you able to visit me every week? You're extremely busy, and if I am there, even though our kids will have their babysitter and maids to care for them, you will also have to take care of them too. Unless you can clone yourself, you wouldn't have the time to visit me."
She had a point. However, it seemed she had slightly infuriated Heaton. "What do you want then, Verian Mont?"
Verian crouched and raised her head to look up at him as he sat on the chair. She placed her hands on his thighs and said with a very sincere gaze, "Beg me not to go, and I won't go. I told you, as long as you don't want me to go, then I won't. Even though this opportunity is hard to come by, you and both of our kids are more important to me."
Heaton lowered his gaze to stare at her. He raised his hand to pat her head after a brief moment and said, "But I can't demand you to sacrifice your dreams for our family. Riana, I'm worried that you might blame me in the future."
She was still young, and her life had just begun. Even though he wanted to keep her by his side all the time, she might come to rely and depend on him. After a few years, would she blame him for forcing her to be a full-time housewife?
"Then, will you really support my decision to go to England?"
"If you really want to go, I can take care of everything at home."
Verian's eyes teared. She felt touched as she said, "But it will take at least a year and a half."
"It's only a year and a half. I can wait."
Her eyes continued to water as Heaton reached out to caress her tiny face. Verian placed her hand on the back of Heaton's as she said, "But you told me that you don't like career-driven women."
"That will never affect how much I love you."
She blinked, and her tears finally streamed down her cheeks. She sobbed. "But if you tell me that you don't want me to go, can't bear to see me leave or that you need me, I can give up on that opportunity."
"I want the best for you. I don't want you to feel even the slightest bit of reluctance or sorrow. Besides, studying in England is a good thing. I have no reason to stop you."
"Heaton."
Verian reached out to hug his waist. She buried herself into him like a child as she sobbed.
How could she not be touched? A prideful man was willing to take such a massive step for her. His tolerance and support for her was not only baseless talk. The man was ready to make sacrifices for her and her family.
…
Verian passed the finals smoothly in the following days. She had taken care of everything she needed for her trip to England; even the plane ticket and departure time had been decided.
Heaton seemed busy those recent days, too. He would only return when Verian was asleep in the middle of the night.
He was done with his shower, and his body felt cold. When he inched closer to her, Verian would turn around and hug his waist as she buried herself into him. She would lament with her soft, tired voice, "Can you not come home late next time? I find it hard to sleep alone."
Heaton kissed her forehead. He lowered his gaze to stare at her sleeping face. He asked, "What are you going to do when you're in England?"
Verian was still dazed from her sleep as she mumbled, "I'll not go then."
Heaton was stunned. After a brief moment, he reached out to tuck her in properly.
Heaton was not sleepy. He looked at the luggage in the room, and his chest tightened.
Perhaps she was confused; she would be heading to England the next morning.
Verian climbed on top of him as she mumbled flirtatiously, "Heaton… Cuddle with me."
Heaton turned around to hug her; Verian nuzzled him as she lamented childishly, "Not like this."
Her tiny hand started to unbutton his shirt. Then she pushed Heaton onto the bed. The man frowned slightly before he held her small hands down. He said, "Stop fooling around; you have to go to the airport tomorrow morning. If we do this, you might not be able to make it to England tomorrow."
"If I can't make it, then I won't go… Let's cuddle."
Heaton was speechless.
