Chapter 508 Not Sending Her Off Because He's Not Used To Farewells
Verian was woken up by the alarm the following morning.
She reached out in a daze to switch it off. However, she felt an empty spot next to her; Heaton was nowhere to be seen.
Verian pulled her covers aside to climb out of her bed. However, her legs felt weak, so she nearly fell. She blushed when she recalled what had happened the night before.
She was already dressed in her pajamas when she put on her slippers and rushed downstairs. Little Lion ran to nuzzle against her ankles. Little Jelly Bean was eating breakfast alone at the dining table early in the morning.
Verian asked, "Jelly Bean, where's your daddy?"
"Morning, Monty. Daddy said that he has a very important meeting he needs to attend this morning, so he went to his office."
"But today is a Saturday. Why does he need to work?"
Little Jelly Bean scratched her tiny head before she climbed down from her chair and walked toward Verian. She grabbed Verian's hand and shook it as she blinked and asked, "Monty, are you going to England?"
Verian was stunned as she had nearly forgotten about that. She replied, "Yeah."
Verian crouched and stared at Little Jelly Bean's pitiful look before she patted the little rascal's head. She said, "I'll be back real soon. I will miss you and Little Pickle, you know."
"Really? Monty, you're not lying to me, right? England is really far away. Will you really be back soon?"
Verian reached out to hug Little Jelly Bean as she said, "Yes, really. I won't lie to my Jelly Bean."
Little Jelly Bean hugged her with her tiny arms before she nodded. She spoke in a childish tone, "Monty, you'll need to come home real soon, okay? Else, my brother and I will be really sad."
Verian's heart melted when she saw her adorable look, so she used her hand to brush against her little nose and said, "Alright. I won't be gone for too long. I'll be home real soon. Wait for me to return, and I'll hold a wedding with your daddy. You'll be our flower child, okay?"
"Really? Awesome! Awesome!"
When Verian ate breakfast with Little Jelly Bean, she called Heaton.
However, Kush was the one who picked up the call.
"Is there something wrong, Madam?"
Verian pouted and said, "Assistant Kush, where's Heaton? I will be heading off to England today. Is he not going to send me off?"
"Well… Madam, Boss is currently in a meeting, and today's schedule is quite packed. I'm afraid…"
Verian was a little sad when she said, "Alright then. Tell him to take care of his body and don't just focus on work."
"Will do, Madam."
Verian felt that something was off after the phone call ended.
Uncle Lewis went to her and said, "Madam, when Young Master was leaving for the office, he told me to send you to the airport later. What time is your flight?"
"It's at 2pm Uncle Lewis. I will have lunch at home before we depart to the airport."
"Alright."
Little Jelly Bean fished out a black card from her pocket before she handed it to Verian and said, "Monty, keep this well. Daddy wants me to give this to you. Daddy said the pin is your birthdate."
Verian was stunned when she accepted the card.
Heaton had given her a card before that. However, she had lived like a 'parasite' in the Fudd family home and never needed to spend any money on her own. Heaton was the one to pay whenever they were out, so sometimes she felt as if she had lost the sense of monetary values. Perhaps it was because one had lived in a comfortable environment for a really long time, they would eventually forget about the importance of money because they never lacked money.
However, why would Heaton not give her the card himself?
It looked like a spare card that Heaton usually used. There was no spending limit on the card, and it could be used all over the world.
He was always so thoughtful. Even if she did not tell him anything, he could think of everything she needed.
…
After lunch, Uncle Lewis drove Verian to the airport. Little Jelly Bean tagged along as well.
When they were about to part ways at the airport, Little Jelly Bean hugged Verian's leg. Her eyes were completely red from tears. She sobbed. "Monty, you can't lie to me, okay? You have to come home real soon!"
"If I lied to you, you can punish me by having me never see you again."
She would only be gone for a couple of days.
Little Jelly Bean pouted as she stared at her like an angry little bunny and said, "No!"
Verian crouched to help the little rascal wipe her tears and said, "Be good with your daddy and brother for the next couple of days, okay? I will be home real soon. I'll buy you some snacks when I'm home, okay?"
The little rascal asked, "When will you come back then?"
"Real soon."
When she finally coaxed Little Jelly Bean, she told Uncle Lewis before she left, "Uncle Lewis, you can go home with Little Jelly Bean now. Have a safe drive home."
"Alright, Madam."
Uncle Lewis held onto Little Jelly Bean's hand. When they turned around and left, Little Jelly Bean kept looking back at Verian.
Verian stood on the same spot as she smiled at the little rascal. She waved at her and said, "Hurry home now."
"Monty, you have to hurry home soon, okay? Or else, I'll be mad!"
"Alright, I will return home real soon."
Verian initially thought she would not cry. However, when she turned around, her eyes began to water.
She was not going away for a year and a half, so why was she so emotional? Perhaps it was because of her two children?
Her heart wrenched when she thought about the sad look on Little Jelly Bean's face. She should forget it; she was not a career-driven person anyway. A person like her who was so family-focused, so time away from her family for a couple of days might be her absolute limit already. She would only go to the Royal Beauty Academy for a few days. She would be back real soon.
…
The president's office in Fudd Group.
Kush noticed Heaton behaved oddly and he seemed lost as he sat there.
"Boss, would you like to see Madam off at the airport? Maybe she hasn't left yet."
Heaton remained silent. It seemed he did not intend to go to the airport.
Kush added, "Boss, if you truly can't bear parting with Madam, you can ask her to stay behind. There's no doubt that Madam can't bear to leave you for so long either. However, you didn't say anything to her, and instead, you even supported her. Of course, she won't stay behind."
"That is her dream, so how could I stop her? Besides, it's only a year and a half, so if I stopped her, wouldn't I be too unreasonable?"
Kush probed, "Then, you really won't go to the airport to send her off?"
"No. I'm not used to farewells."
After Heaton said that, he opened his laptop to do some work.
Kush sighed, but he did not say anything else.
After Kush left the office, Heaton's phone chimed. It was a text from Verian.
[Heaton, I will be boarding soon. Can I call you once I've arrived in England?]
Heaton initially refused to reply to her. However, he could feel her sadness through his screen, so he hammered a single calm but loving reply with his keyboard. [Alright.]
How could he say no? He desperately wanted her to call him every day.
After a couple of seconds, Verian sent him another text. [You'll have to take care of the kids in the next few days.]
Heaton sent her another one-word reply. [Sure.]
Verian thought his replies were cold, but she wanted to draw his attention, so she sent him another text. [Are you really busy now? Why do you text like a machine? You didn't even bother to send me off at the airport today, and it seems your work is more important than Madam Fudd."
There was even a crying emoji at the end of the text.
Heaton had no idea how to reply to that.
