Chapter 67
Jason took me to the pet hospital to pick up YELLOW, who had finished the check-up and the SPA.
To my surprise, I found Wolfie there.
"Wow!" Looking at the large lawn and the swimming pool for the pets, I couldn't help exclaiming. "Isn't it extravagant? By the way, does the pet hospital take care of wolves?"
Wolfie pounced on me excitedly. YELLOW was pushed away and then fell to the ground.
YELLOW wagged its tail with a grievance. By instinct, it did not dare to come close.
"Wolfie is not aggressive," I explained patiently. I didn't know if YELLOW could understand me.
Jason said with a smile, "When Wolfie comes, we will reserve the whole hospital. I will take the pets to the car. You may buy something for YELLOW if necessary."
"Okay."
I had never been to a pet store. Interested, I began my shopping.
After one stroll in the store, I found that my care for YELLOW and its mother had been awful.
However, the prices of the stuff in the store was indimidating.
Compared with the meat, which would cost dozens of dollars per piece, I preferred to feed YELLOW with bones.
Like me, YELLOW came from Phoenix Village and couldn't get used to this extravagant life.
When I left to find Jason, there came a male sob behind the shelf.
"Dear, this is anesthetics. People will die if you make a mistake!"
Something interesting?
Instantly, I stopped.
A woman said, "I graduated from a medical school. I have common sense, so don't worry."
"Hey? We will go to jail if you make a mistake." The man was dissatisfied.
"Didn't you get the money? If both of us remain silent, who will know? 500 thousand dollars! You will have to work for 10 years to get this money." The woman was argumentative.
Hey!
I hold my breath. Was I not the third soul who knew their secret?
Would they kill me?
Holding my breath, I slipped out.
My heartbeat didn't become normal till I got in the car.
Costsley was a horrible place, wasn't it?
I learned of a shady deal because I took my pets here for a SPA.
How would the woman use the anesthetics? She must be up to something bad.
However, I was not a saint.
This shady deal had nothing to do with me.
It had been a long time since my last visit to Bamboo Pavilion. There was no trace of the fire Nathan had set.
The walls had been painted, and they seemed taller than before.
There were lush green plants in the courtyard and vines on the walls. This place didn't look cold as before.
Without the coffins in the living room, the house looked great.
Rose was waiting there. She forced an ugly smile at the sight of me. "Madam, there are good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"
I was speechless.
"Make a choice now. There's not much time left." Rose's expression gradually became grim.
"Am I poisoned or what? Will I die if I take one step forward?
"My dear Rose, you asked the wrong question. I want no news."
I sat on the sofa.
I admitted that the sofa in Bamboo Pavilion was the most comfortable one I had ever sitten on.
The sofa wrapped me whenever I, who was short, huddled up there.
I felt safe.
"Then, bad news first!" Carroll's voice came from the second floor.
Lying on the sofa, I saw his face. "I won't listen."
After a faint smile flashed past his face, Carroll said, "Rose, carry her upstairs!"
"What?" Before I rebelled, the plump Rose pulled me up. I was no match to Rose in Jason.
Rose was twice large as me in size. It was not difficult for her to pull me up. "Madam, be good and go upstairs. It may be a blessing in disguise."
In this house, everyone was obedient to Carroll.
I was at a loss. "Do you pull me upstairs for something bad in broad daylight? You..."
"Just accept your fate, Madam. It is important for your life."
Hearing Rose, I panicked.
Important for my life? Marriage? Children?
I was married.
Well, children...
No, no, no, I wanted to go to Costsley University. I didn't want to get pregnant yet.
However, I didn't win.
Rose dragged me into the study. There, I saw Carroll and a man who looked like a scholar with a pair of glasses and a wide-collar shirt.
"Professor Leo, as I said, unprepared." Carroll pushed me to Professor Leo.
Professor Leo held his glasses and looked me up and down. "Did she come of age?"
"19 years old. She is a picky eater. It's not easy to raise her."
I was not picky!
I rolled my eyes, thinking about the dinner tonight.
Professor Leo produced some papers from the briefcase behind him. "Carroll, you're the student I'm most proud of. I'll trust you for once."
"Professor Leo, please do have faith in me." Carroll spread those papers on the desk for me.
An exam?
They made things mysterious. It turned out that Carroll's teacher was a professor at Costsley University.
I now knew the so-called bad thing Rose had talked about was an exam.
I made rapid progress in my study and might get admitted to Costsley University.
Fearless, I sat down. "You came to teach me. I will do the test."
"Oh, this girl is much more obedient than you. Try your best. I'll stay here with you." Professor Leo was very kind.
However, it took me five hours to finish the test.
During the test, I ate a small cake and went to the toilet once.
I had done them under the surveillance of Rose.
Handing the papers to Professor Leo, I breathed a sigh of relief. "May I have dinner now?"
"Go ahead. I will check your papers now."
I ran downstairs!
It was past eleven o'clock in the evening but I hadn't had dinner yet.
When I gulped down the food, Rose couldn't help asking, "Madam, aren't you nervous?"
With a chicken drumstick in my mouth, I looked at Rose. "Nervous? I do the tests every three days. I don't know what anxiety is now.
"I only hates starvation."
"Don't you know?" Rose stared at me in shock. "I'm shocked."
"What should I know?" I looked at Rose, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
Why was Rose weird today?
When Carroll came downstairs with Professor Leo, I, leaning against the sofa, was watching a soap drama with one hand on my round belly.
The male lead dumped the female lead for an angelic bit*h, so I was mad.
"Congratulations, Kelly." Professor Leo came over with a bright smile on his face.
