Chapter 66
Harris must come for business, so I took the opportunity and said, "May I wander around with the driver?"
"You want to go to the hospital, don't you?" Carroll asked, staring me me.
I was speechless.
He saw through me.
Out of worry, I didn't sleep well last night. The same would happen if I didn't pay a visit to Orva.
Hence, I gave Carroll puppy eyes with my arms around his neck. "I don't know when Melody will come home from abroad. Bad timing that Owen took her away for a business trip.
"Mr. Carroll, you are the best man in the world. Could you please let me pay Orva a visit?
"I won't slap my uncle, I promise."
"Kelly, did you slap Joson's face?" Harris grinned ear to ear. "Oh my god, you slapped Joson in the face. So funny."
"I didn't know he was my uncle then," I muttered.
Carroll sighed, "Let Jason go with you."
"Okay!" I kissed Carroll on the face, but Harris, who sat opposite Carroll, complained.
"I now know what kind of women you like." Harris stared at me but said to Carroll.
"What kind?" I asked curiously.
"Cute but hot-tempered."
"Bah, I'm good-tempered. Don't you think so, Mr. Carroll?" I nudged Carroll with my elbow.
Carroll said reluctantly, "Yes. 80 pounds of weight, 100 pounds of a spirit of rebellion."
"Go, go, go. Remember to come back early!"
"Okay, Mr. Carroll. See you." I took my bag and ran out happily.
In the car, I excitedly called Granny Luisa.
Granny Luisa kept her sanity sometimes.
She always did crazy things in her youth. She was now old, and the sickness seldom attacked her, at least in my impression.
Most of the time, she stayed in her shabby wooden house and studied patterns day after day.
Granny Luisa answered the call and sounded brighter than before. "Are you the girl next door?"
"Yes, Granny Luisa. I now have a name, Kelly." I emphasize my name for fear that Granny Luisa could not remember it.
"Nice name! What reminded you of the old woman here?"
"I saw in a magazine that your pattern became a work of art. It is in an exhibition abroad!"
Granny Luisa fell silent. After a long time, she hung up the phone.
No signal?
Looking at the black screen, I decided to give Granny Luisa my old phone in our next meeting since hers didn't work well.
Right then, Jason stopped the car before the hospital.
I bought some necessary medical stuff like adult diapers in a shop. Then, Jason and I went upstairs with a lot of bags.
Orva was sent to the intensive care unit, and two health workers took care of her there.
However...
Joson was still here. He, wearing a light gray suit, saw me, and the look in his eyes became complicated.
Soon, he said with a smile, "Jason. No wonder you're so arrogant."
Jason put down the stuff for Orva, and his aura wasn't inferior to Joson's. "Mr. Smith, are you interested in charity recently? Why did you work for a small potato like Stephen?"
"Aren't you, Jason? Compared with Stephen, Orva is the real small potato, isn't she?"
I gave Joson a hard look. "You value life with money. You are far inferior to the small potatoes."
"Haha!" Joson let out a hollow laugh.
Jason sneered. "Some interest chain must get involved. Otherwise, Joson, who charges by second, won't waste his precious time waiting for a manager of Cheuk Restaurant."
Wait a minute.
What did I hear?
Charge by second?
My uncle was rich!
"Bingo! Jason, you know what is good for you. Your new girlfriend isn't that smart, please talk her over." Joson had a skin-deep smile on his face.
Joson must hate me for the slap yesterday.
Jason instantly said, "We'll sit by and watch. Melody is the manager of Cheuk Restaurant. We can't affect Mr. Owen's decision."
I was confused.
Owen's decision? Wasn't it about a phone call from Carroll?
Suddenly, I understood why Joson stayed here.
Because Owen was a hard nut too.
I went into the ward. I left the health workers a few instructions and gave them the digital music player I had cherished for years.
It seemed the antique shocked the health workers. "What is this for?"
"I did the investigation. The vegetables can feel the world through hearing. Please play every day because it may help her wake up."
The content inside was poetries.
The vegetables needed stimulation, so the beautiful and complicated poetries were the best choice.
How stimulating!
I was ready to go home after things were done.
To Bamboo Pavilion from the hospital, Jason and I had to go through the downtown area of Costsley. To my surprise, the content on all the digital billboards was the same.
"Blue love?" I read the words on the billboard, frowned instantly, and patted the backrest in front of me. "Jason, don't you think that person looks like Joson?"
I thought so, anyway.
I would mistake Joson for an actor if I didn't know that he was a lawyer.
"That is David, very famous!" Jason replied.
"Smith? There are so many people surnamed Smith!" I shifted my gaze away from the billboard and sighed.
"Well, Madam, he is your uncle, younger than Joson!"
What! I pursed my lips. The Smith family was a large one.
Abdi, Opal, Joson, and David.
Jason continued, "Your father has over ten years between his and his two brothers' age, so he brought them up.
"David is only two years older than Abdi. David and Abdi are close to each other."
"My grandma must be in good health, isn't she? She gave birth to a son when she would have a grandson soon."
Jason was lost for word.
I asked because Jason looked weird, "Did I say something wrong?"
"No."
"Hey, Jason, they look alike because they are brothers. Why do Madonna and Odette look alike since they aren't related by blood?" I asked.
"Well..." Jason thought for a moment. "The same lifestyle and diets will shape people into similar appearance."
I nodded. "What about birthmarks? A red mole."
Jason couldn't help laughing. "That's a genetic decision. It won't change because of the environment."
Why did Madonna and Odette have similar moles on their bodies? Could it be a tattoo?
Confused, I pursued the topic, "Is there a big study in Bamboo Pavilion?"
"Yes. I can buy you the books you want," Jason said.
"Well, could you please buy me some books about DNA?"
