A Good Dinner
This sentence broke the peace of my mind.
They didn't ask Odette for money because they considered Odette Miss Odette and didn't dare to offend her!
As for me, I was a widow and pushover in their eyes.
My last sympathy for these people was gone. I said coldly, "You disowned me for 200 thousand dollars from the Smith family. Do you forget that?"
"That's a betrothal gift!" Elaine said stubbornly. "Married girls should take care of their parents and relatives. That is the tradition. Moreover, we brought you up."
"Did you?" I sneered. "You locked me in the woodshed from time to time. You starved and abused me at will. I have no obligation to provide for you, not to mention that so-called cousin."
Then, silence pervaded in the spacious room.
I had submitted to these people for 19 years and talked back for the first time.
I got up to leave.
"How can you be so cruel?" Crying, Laura slumped on the ground.
Elaine looked at me defiantly. She showed the slightest intention of stopping her mother-in-law.
That was the old trick. Laura would use it whenever her son disagreed with her.
Tormented, her son became a good-for-nothing in her eyes.
However, this trick didn't work on me.
I said after a sneer, "If you want money, go find your granddaughter by blood. I am a stranger to you."
"Kelly!" Opal flared up. "What bullshit are you talking about?"
"Opal, you are anxious to protect your little sister!" I sighed with sadness.
"Odette doesn't know them. They came for you. Solve the problem!"
This was an order from Opal.
I tilted my head and look at Opal.
Laura had been here for a long time, and Opal, upset, didn't forget himself.
However, he lost his cool when I mentioned Odette.
This was my brother by blood.
He cared about Odette rather than me.
"Take them away. Quick!"
Opal' voice was low and hoarse like that of a restrained beast.
I knew my place in his heart now and felt disappointed.
"Okay, I'll take them away!"
"Great!"
Laura patted her butt, got up from the ground, and looked at me with greedy light in her eyes. "You're rich. Won't you treat us to a good dinner?"
"Okay, I'll take you to the best restaurant in Costsley."
I brushed past Opal and left without looking back.
Opal, you asked for it.
I got into the car.
Laura had never been in such a fancy limo. After scrutiny, she asked the bodyguard, "Hey, which car is more expensive, this one or that one in the courtyard of the Smith family?"
The bodyguard answered honestly, "Those two cars together cost half the price of this one."
Hearing this, Elaine immediately asked me, "Girl, who is your husband? So rich! You have a driver and a bodyguard..."
I ignored Elaine and looked out of the window.
The driver drove fast, so we soon arrived at Cheuk Restaurant.
Laura and Elaine followed me into the elevator. They touched everything which was novel to them.
Melody Jarvis came over with a smile. "Miss Kelly, VIP room?"
I nodded, and my gaze swept over the work badge on the girl's uniform. "Melody, are you in charge of this restaurant?"
"Yes, I am second to General Manager here."
Melody opened the door of the VIP room. "What would you like to eat?"
I sat down and said, "As my takeout. They will tell you what they want."
Laura and Elaine kept looking around. Melody handed over the menu politely. "What would you like to eat?"
"What's this? Does it cost 2999 dollars?" Laura looked at the menu in surprise.
Melody patiently explained, "It's a lobster from overseas. It costs 2999 dollars. Do you want it?"
"Yes, I do." Laura instantly nodded. "Bring us the best and the most expensive dishes here."
"She is right."
"Okay, one moment, please. Do you need anything else, Miss Kelly?" Melody asked me with the menu in her hands.
"Just separate my dishes from theirs." I deliberately emphasized the word 'separate'.
Soon, the exquisite dishes appeared in front of us.
To be precise, it was before them and me.
Melody served my dishes personally. The table was large, so there was a sharp contrast between their side and mine.
I soon ate up my food and then quietly watched Laura and Elaine enjoy themselves.
Two hours later, Laura put down her knife and fork with satisfaction and then burped.
"The food here is yummy." Elaine complimented as her eyes lit up.
"Yes, I've never seen these things before," said Laura in agreement.
"Since you're full, pay the bill now."
I dined here on credit. Carroll had prepaid the money, and I couldn't use up the money in his account within ten years.
Melody brought the bill over. "121.5 thousand dollars in total."
I pointed to my plate. "What about mine?"
"As before, 3000 dollars."
Melody got the hint. "Do you go dutch?"
"Yes. My part is on credit," I said with a smile.
"What do you mean? Won't you pay for what we ate?" Laura slammed the table.
This violence shocked Melody. However, she still kept a professional smile on her face. "Madam, 118.5 thousand dollars, please, credit card or cash?"
"110 thousand dollars? Do you charge me 110 thousand dollars for these dishes?"
"Kelly, what are you waiting for? Pay the bill, now!"
Laura came to grab my collar.
Fortunately, the bodyguard was quick enough to block her way.
Laura was angry. "I am lecturing my granddaughter! Get away!"
"I don't know your granddaughter, but Mrs. Brown." The bodyguard straightened his back and looked down at the old lady.
Intimidated, Laura pulled Elaine to sit on the ground and then shouted.
"Ungrateful thing!"
"I raised an ungrateful thing!"
The consumers in Cheuk Restaurant had never seen such a farce, so they poked their heads into the room where I was.
When there came more and more onlookers, Laura and Elaine became excited.
