Chapter 1442
At the time, Adam was inside the car only a couple hundred meters away from them. He had not chased after Coral because he wanted to give Rory some space to talk to her in hopes that he would be able to talk some sense into her.
If he had been with Coral, perhaps Coral would not have died.
He slumped onto the couch and spoke in a raspy voice, “This is the truth behind her death.”
After that, Paul stayed silent for what seemed like an eternity. The only sound coming from the other end of the phone was his heavy breathing.
Then, Adam started again, “What I’m saying is that it was not Rorr's alter ego that killed Coral. It was Coral's death that crushed him so much that his alter ego managed to take over. It was only when Mable returned to the castle and offered him some comfort that he managed to return to normal.
“Coral's death may have left a mark on you, but what makes you think it did not leave a mark in Rorr? He has been living with guilt all these years and never tried to justify his stance, even if you hated him. It’s because, in certain ways, he believed he was the one who caused Coral’s death.”
Adam sighed profoundly at this note. He did not believe that Rory was to be blamed for what happened.
Rory went as far as to risk his life to rescue Coral that night. Nobody could have ever imagined that something so fatal could happen after the rescue.
“Tsk.”
Paul sneered vehemently into the phone, “Did you think I was going to believe your lies? Coral is dead, and there is no proof that any of that ever happened.”
Adam frowned. “Paul, you know I would never lie to you…”
“So what?!”
Paul felt as if he was going to lose his mind as he roared into the phone, “Even if what you claim is true, Rory is still directly involved in my sister’s death! It was him who got her killed! It should have been him who died instead!”
“Paul, now you’re just being unfair toward him.”
He sympathized with Paul and understood it would take him a while to come to terms with the fact. Still, he would not stand for Paul badmouthing Rory.
“Nobody could have seen it coming. While saving Coral from the kidnappers, Rorr took a bullet in the back, but he never said anything about it and clenched his jaw through the pain. Even when he was at his limit, the first thing he did when he saw the truck was to try to save Coral. However, it ended up being Coral who shoved him…”
“Enough! Stop it right now!”
Paul roared, “I don’t care what you tell me. Coral died because of Rory! Regardless of what happened, she’s no longer with us!”
“Paul—”
Paul had hung up.
Adam stared at his phone and frowned severely.
He knew Paul would have trouble accepting the truth.
However, he was the only person left apart from Mable who could help Rorr. He was an expert in treating mental illness and was well-versed in the practices of psychiatry and psychotherapy.
Adam snuffed out the cigarette in the ashtray and massaged his brows. A wave of irritation washed over him.
“Cough… Cough!”
He felt a stinging pain somewhere inside his throat. It was soon followed by the metallic taste of blood.
Rory’s alter ego was vicious!
