Chapter 1441
Paul laughed roaringly in a very sarcastic way, “Ha! You must be trying to screw with me, Adam. It’s already kind enough of me not to try to get revenge on him out of respect for Mable. How can you suggest that I help him?”
Adam pleaded, “I know you have always hated him because of what happened to Coral, but…”
“Shut your mouth!”
Paul roared angrily and continued in a voice filled with spite, “Coral is my sister and was just as close with you over the years. She thought of you as her brother. It was Rory who got her killed, but here you are, speaking up for his murderer. How could you do this to her?!”
Adam sighed, “I always thought of her as my sister as well.”
“You don't have the right to say that!” Paul snarled viciously.
“Paul, please calm down and listen to what I have to say.”
Adam sat on the couch and pressed a finger against his throbbing temples. He had promised Rory he would take this secret to the grave. However, it now seemed like an apt time to tell Paul.
Otherwise, Paul would have to continue holding on to this grudge for the rest of his life.
It was not fair for him, especially since he was the victim.
Paul stopped ranting and waited for Adam to speak.
After a short pause, Adam began, “Here’s the thing. What happened back then cannot be blamed on Rorr. There is another factor to Coral’s death.”
Paul was immediately taken aback. “What did you say?”
“I’m going to guess that you don't know about Coral having a crush on Rorr. At one point, she confessed to Rorr but ended up getting rejected by Rorr, who told her that he only thought of her as a sister. You know what Coral was like. She was the stubborn type who wouldn’t take no for an answer. She vowed to win Rorr over, no matter what.
“As for myself and Rorr, we both brushed it off as an adolescent passion and expected her to give up once she realized it was not going to lead anywhere. We did not expect her to be so stubborn and keep holding on for more than a year…
“To convince her that there was no use holding on, Rorr found a girl to bring back to the palace so Coral would know it was time to give up. Then…”
Adam paused and lit a cigarette. After he took a drag, he stated with difficulty, “One night, Coral somehow managed to drug Rorr, and they ended up sleeping together…”
“That’s impossible!”
Paul belted out loud and cut Adam off. He refused to believe it.
He had always been aware that Coral had a crush on Rory. After all, she was his sister. Although he was not in the castle during that period, he had frequent video calls with Coral, who would talk to him about Rory…
He could more or less figure out what was on his sister’s mind.
However, he had not thought much about it and assumed it was nothing but a brief liking.
After all, teenage girls tend to fantasize about romance.
Considering the seven-year age gap between Coral and Rory, Paul deemed there was no way those two were going to work out…
That was why he had never thought much of it.
Adam flicked the cigarette ashes and continued, “Paul, you know me. I’m either going to keep it a secret from you for life or I will tell you everything. I would never lie to you.”
Paul was silent.
Adam went on, “When it happened, Rorr was very upset, just as you expected. He was very cross with Coral, and that was also why she ended up moving out of the castle for a while.
“I’m sure you know about Rorr's story. He studied toxicology from a master since he was a kid and had experience with various experiments on himself. Because of that, his body’s tolerance is different from the average person.
“Still, he could not figure out what poison Coral had drugged him that night. All he knew was that something had been off with him since then. After several days, the men he had assigned to keep watch over Coral reported that Coral had been kidnapped. At the time, you were away on a very important mission in another region. There was no way you could make it back, so we decided to keep it a secret from you…”
Upon hearing this, Paul scowled gravely.
Adam continued, “Rorr personally led a team to rescue Coral. While we did manage to rescue her, the only problem was that she refused to see Rorr and did not want to return to the castle. Still, you’d understand why myself and Rorr were reluctant to let her continue living by herself after the kidnapping incident. So, we made the call to drag her back to the castle by force.
“She was more stubborn than we expected and ended up jumping out of the car to escape. Rorr hopped out of the car to try to grab her, and while those two were tangled up in the middle of the road, a cargo truck coming down the other direction had lost control and charged toward them. It all happened so quickly. Coral shoved Rorr out of the way and then the truck rammed into her at full force…”
Adam could picture the scene of Coral being rammed into by the truck.
Sorrow and guilt were written across his face.
