Chapter 3801
The elders at home did not restrict Rowan. His mother, well, really had never monitored him, because he had eight older brothers and cousins looking after him, and he bore a lot of academic pressure on himself. Many of his teachers had also taught the eight of them, so whenever he scored a little lower, his teachers would compare him to them. He was under tremendous pressure.
Among his classmates, he ranked at the top. Even in the city rankings, he was among the top ten. Compared to his brothers and cousins, however, he still fell short. They had skipped grades in both elementary and middle schools, but by the time Rowan reached middle school, he could only take things one step at a time. Having one outstanding older brother was already a lot of pressure for a younger sibling, let alone having eight particularly excellent older brothers.
“Nana said you would be back today, so she arranged for the driver to pick you up. I came home yesterday for the holidays, so I tagged along.”
Rowan glanced at the bodyguards following Zachary. They were carrying the luggage, so he had nothing to worry about.
“Serenity, are you hungry? I brought some snacks for you. They’re in the car. You can eat them once we get in. Nana also told the chef to prepare more of your favorite dishes. By the way, Julian Bucham and his fiancée are here too. Nana is hosting them at home.”
Rowan had a lot to talk about with Serenity. Other than greeting Zachary and playfully pinching Sonny’s cheek, he walked alongside Serenity the rest of the time, chatting and getting along very closely. Anyone who did not know them would think they were real siblings.
Zachary, holding the still-unconscious Sonny, looked a little jealous as he watched his wife and younger brother walking ahead. Sonny had not woken up even after his cheek was pinched by Rowan earlier and was sleeping soundly, like a little pig. He had slept all the way from onboard the plane, and after getting home, he would not be able to sleep again at noon.
With Rowan around, the two kids were probably going to have a blast for the entire afternoon despite the age gap. Since Rowan had just come home for the holidays, he was going to relax, unwind, and play around for a good few days to relieve the stress he had built up. Everyone was fine with this. Schoolwork was important, but health was even more important.
Nowadays, so many middle and high school students suffered from the pressure of keeping up with their studies, their parents’ nagging, and the constant pressure from their schools. Many kids simply could not handle it and developed depression. Some even attempted suicide due to the severity of their condition.
Zachary did not want Rowan to end up that way, although the Yorks believed the young man had strong resilience. If Rowan really could not handle it, they could send him abroad. For now, there was no need for him to worry about not being able to get into college. The only question was which college he would get into. Rowan also did not want to go abroad too soon. Since that was what Rowan wanted, the family respected his decision.
“Rowan, help me hold Sonny for a moment. I’ve been carrying him all the way, and my arms are feeling a bit sore.” Zachary called out to Rowan. When Rowan stopped, Zachary handed Sonny over to him.
Rowan instinctively took Sonny in his arms. “How long has Sonny been sleeping?”
“He fell asleep shortly after we got on the plane. He’s still sleeping so soundly now, like a little piglet,” Zachary complained a little and pinched Sonny’s cheek.
Rowan lifted Sonny higher, letting him lean against his shoulder as he continued walking with Serenity, chatting about interesting things that happened at school. He then asked, “Serenity, when is my nephew going to be born? Is it going to be after my college entrance exam? Could he wait until after my exams? I want to be the first one he sees when he’s born—then, we’ll definitely be close.”
Zachary could not help but retort, “When my baby is born, the first person he’s going to see will definitely be me, his dad. No way will it be you—you’ll have to wait in line behind me, and all your older brothers and so many other elders.”
The day Serenity gave birth, Rowan probably would not even be able to squeeze his way to the front. He wanted the baby to see him first? That was just wishful thinking!
