Chapter 3786
Isabella looked at him, and the two of them locked eyes for a moment. Then Isabella asked, “You’re trained in self-defense?”
“I am. I trained for more than ten years. My nana is a wise and capable matriarch. She’s the one who raised us to be well-rounded, both in academics and self-defense.”
Isabella recalled that she had asked someone to investigate Austin’s background. She had only done a brief inquiry into his family situation, mainly to learn more about him as a person, so she did not know much about his family.
She knew he had a large family with many members, and they all lived in the large ancestral home passed down through generations. Oh, right—these were things Austin had briefly mentioned himself.
As for what his family was like, he had not said much, and she had not investigated further. After all, she was not looking to marry him, so there was no need to delve into his family tree like she was tracing a genealogy. As long as she knew he came from a respectable family and was of good character, that was enough.
“Your grandmother sounds great. Your family must be well-off, too, to be able to raise children and grandchildren to be well-rounded both physically and intellectually. It's not something a poor family could manage.”
He had a lot of siblings and cousins, too. It took a significant amount of resources for a family to raise all their children that way. Self-defense training was not free, after all.
Austin smiled. “We’re alright. Our predecessors left some assets, and those of us who could start our own businesses did just that. Those who didn’t succeed in business took over the family business.”
Isabella nodded and did not press further. She decided not to ask more questions, and Austin did not say anything else. He thought to himself that, in the future, his wife could not blame him for hiding his status from her. It was not his fault as she had not asked. He could not just tell her everything out of the blue, right?
Moreover, she had already sent people to Wiltspoon to investigate him twice. If she had not figured things out by now, then it was not his fault even though Zachary had helped keep things under wraps, preventing her from finding out he was a member of the esteemed Wiltspoon Yorks.
Isabella did not pay much attention to Wiltspoon; it was too far away. She did not know that in Wiltspoon, the surname “York” was so closely associated with the largest company in the city, York Corporation. Had she paid more attention to Wiltspoon, she would have likely asked if Austin had any connection to York Corporation when she found out he was a successful entrepreneur from there.
“Isa, Austin and I brought some delicious pastries for you and Tati. You guys should eat them while they’re still warm and fresh out of the oven. I saw Austin make them, and Phillip and I had a few pieces. They’re really delicious.”
At their current age, the two boys were still fond of sweets. However, given Louis’s love for sweets, he would probably still enjoy them when he grew up.
Isabella smiled. “Really? Then I’ll have to try some.”
Phillip chimed in, “Isa, you definitely have to try them. They’re really delicious. Louis and I wanted to eat a few more pieces, but Austin was stingy and wouldn’t let us have more. He said he wanted to leave them for you. He’s so biased! He only makes all the good stuff for you, Isa.”
Louis pointed out to Phillip, “Austin is Isa’s personal chef. We only get to enjoy his cooking thanks to her.”
Phillip stuck out his tongue sheepishly.
